Hey man I find it hard to sit down and eat a meal without checking for a new upload on your channel. Best content out there man, you can always tell a good ole boy when you see one
Air Filter: I left the air filter off, and the front breather hose wide open my 1996 XJ 4.0, for years. All back to stock now. Can't see that it damaged anything. 379,000 miles.
You need to have one of your beat up rigs in the background.. and a caricature of you saying " man it runs good" haha... cracked me up Around the 32:44 mark.. No Jeep words in sight so you're good.
Knew nothing about cars besides they where explosion machines that turned that into movement until about 6 years ago. Bought a old zj straight 6 to make it up our gravel driveway in the winter months, I think I bought it for 600. Got hooked and the 4x4 bug bit me. Acquired 2 more zjs both 5.2s, sadly only one is in working condition, but it's been useful to have another vehicle to steal parts from and double check if everything looks the same. Slowly over time watching videos like these I've picked up small things that actually I remember out of no where when working on my jeep, or I remember just enough to google more about the problem and actually solve it.
You got to hit those lug nuts with a 20mm and a mallet harddddddd. The steel lugs fuse to the alloy. It’s called Galvanic Reaction. You need to break that before you try and turn the lug. I know it looks like it’s rusted to the stud but it isn’t. That’s why it snaps at the point that’s connected to the wheel.
Oh man, the two in a row rear lug freeze. Wild. I'm sure glad you have a liquid wrench. I dont know how tf i would even start to deal with a problem like that. Yikes.
I love watching your videos for ideas and diagnostic info. I've learned so much and it's just fun! I do wish that you would do a full on tutorial for R&R of engine in XJ.
Some people don't understand how the cooling system works. I am a auto mechanic for 20 plus yrs and a big jeep guy and I have seen that same cooling tool used my self more times than I can ever count. It's a great tool too own, have and use! Great too use too bleed the air out of cooling system
@@deadspeed6679its the one that goes i to cooling jacket probably. Research that and if it is. Just redo the permatex on it and do valve cover while youre at it. Should help if its not cracked. 👍
@@KarstRats it’s in the valve cover not the head gasket bolts I’ve never seen it before.. it’s leaking out I’m guessing the PO broke a bolt and drilled it out and hit the water jacket
I use an air lift and then the funnel like you have on everything including tesla , if you know you know. The air lift is necessary on EV and hybrids and the funnel is extra security
I have a wrangler 2.5 that has a oil pressure above 40 while driving but sumtimes drop to 20 at ideal and # 2 piston broke about 3 months ago but replaced the piston
What’s your opinion on recap tires ? Are they worth it ? I have a couple of rigs Jw and a Tj both daily but definitely not scared of scratches. I appreciate your hard works and efforts and mostly the wisdom and passion for Jeeps .
Hopefully you will see this and give me some direction 1991 jeep xj 4.0 it stumbles and bucks when you floor it no check engine light I replaced the fuel pump and filter i put a mopar tps on it I bypassed the fuel pump resistor still no change I ordered a mopar cps havnt had time to swap it yet and the same time this started the speedo started being jumpie and off by 15 or 25 mph always over I don't think it's connected to the stumble/ bucking put I thought I would mention it
@dexjs no back firing at all it's like you switch the ignition on and off I need to buy a longer fuel pressure hose so I can see if it's losing pressure is anyway to rule out the ecu
That would be awesome. I have been looking high and low and have not found one certified compatible. Your content is awesome. I thought I knew a bunch about my Jeeps but have picked up so much more off of you!
Dex i over filled my trans on my 93 Cherokee about half quart maybe little more..On phone trying to multi task..It was up to the curve on dipstick..Would that been a issue.. I pulled drain plug and got it back to top of hash mark..Just curious if half quart over would blows seals..Google says cavitation blow seal so on..Need put that wolf on chain gang.😂 ❤
Do you take on in-frame "refresh" work or only sell engines? Got a piston slap in my beloved ''01 XJ, presumed cracked piston, and would make the drive to have a 4.0 expert have at it.
1st off let me say love the content you put out . 2nd what relay or fuses are you jumping to get it to start ? I find this very useful when a feller is working on it by himself.
I traded a alienware laptop for a 99 jeep grand cherokee WJ with the 4.0 straight 6 and that mf is crusty, rusty, crashed, doors fcked up, tail lights busted. Literally looks like a derby vehicle but ya know why I traded? Because she RUNS! Almost 200k on it and there is absolutely no piston slap going on and she purrs like a new kitten 😂 But yeah everything else on it sucks💀

Glad you enjoyed it!
Dex keep the videos coming brother. Enjoy them all. Props to an Honest man.

Dex! The light blue Zj is rare af. You oughta build it up and make it nice lol
Yeah like to own one of those myself honestly...
Id definitely be wanting to put a motor in the light blue xj

This is true. I’ve run into it a couple times

Awesome video Dex!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Another kickass video!
Video idea for you : If your Jeep XJ doesnt start checklist/diagnostic procedure.
Keep up the great work!

I think someone took cut your fenders for more clearance too literally
meth heads with stupid ideas

Yes. Had a 95 zj with 231 whatevertrac (not selectrac)
Hello, I have a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0. keeps blowing the p.c.m. would you think the coil pack or fuel pump.
New floors look nice
I dont think I have ever seen the 4wd linkage listed did not even think there was a market because the cable shifter is an upgrade in everyway

Could be a coil or low fuel pressure. If it’s back firings def fuel pressure. Coil will flutter.

i have a 94 zj would a bad crank sensor make the asd and fuel relay tick like crazy
I’ll try to make you a video tomorrow!!
@@dexjs yeah been battling it for about a month and a half now
Hey Dex, you might be my only hope for a part I need for my 99 WJ. Rear Glass Hinges? Hopefully
Yeah I’ll have them. I’ll try to add to website tomorrow maybe.

Im fixing to do a step by step video. But not taking any work on. Just personal projects.☹️
How much is your transfer cases. I need a 242 for a 96 zj
350$ usually

been up just watching all these videos
Keep making these i hope it makes you enough to live off these videos are a public service
I think those jeeps need to be judged by their rocker sounds and whether the trans slips
My 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed magnum V8 318 46re 4x4 has factory towing pckg dana 44's 3.55 gears
it takes a lot of effort to kill a 4.0 I bet the low oil pressure is probably a bad seal in the bottom end
☹️ I wish. Video soon.
@@dexjsI'm exited! The oil pressure videos are the real world engine rebuilders tips that a newbie like me cannot find anywhere else.
Do you have any 05-06 jeep liberty’s with a good auto transmission? I was going to say it’s in reverse, noticed the second time you started it.
I need a late model 4.0 block. Do you have one available and where are you located?
Learn stuff from every one of your videos. Need more dog though in videos.
How in the heck do you start the jeeps from the fuse box?
It's a push button manual relay, no different then you hitting the key.
Would you consider doing a short video to show how you hook up the remote start system?
Love your videos, Lear a lot, thank you.

Why are we talking so much about lying this video? You ok man???
Dex pays more for a Jeep with good parts, so many people lie to him to get more money. Makes it hard to trust anyone. Happens way too often.
What my dad said. People will buy junk, call me and lie to resell for a good price which screws me over.
Great Vid - and ‘them- there’ rims on the driver side is the besties - ahh the 4 Oh life . .
