If it's still confusing to some people whether there is romance here, in Japanese Cloud says: "Mukae ni iku", which has an extremely romantic meaning in Japanese. It means that Cloud will bring Aerith back to HIS SIDE (instead of "I'm coming for you" which I, tbh, find very romantic too). Japanese fans describe this as pure romance
Cloud went from a mercenary with no feelings to feeling worried for Aerith. His transformation in his time with aerith was so subtle yet so satisfying.
Actually Cloud did have feelings before, but in order to preserve the persona he created, he needed to become rude and asshole. Aerith showed him that he doesn't need to hide behind this mask anymore.
You should've played the original game, then. Even as a thirteen year old kid, it was clear they had chemistry.

And her dream scene is confirmed to be about her fate. Which means she knows that either Cloud is falling in love with her or will fall in love with her, thus she is warning him. Regardless, there was no need for her to bring it up if Cloud was not gonna fall for her. As for Aerith loving Cloud, it was already stated in Dismantled and even on the 30th Anniversary Memories of You, Farewell Story that she loves Cloud. Which is why in Japanese she says "Kuyashii kedo, ureshii" as a response to Cloud's "Mukae ni iku". A strong phrase that with nuance is a declaration that he would come and get her back to his side. Aerith in return is frustrated at the situation but is happy about Cloud's feelings.
Also when Cloud came to rescue Aerith, the Japanese original is ""Earisu kaeshite morau" which means "I will make you return Aerith". Which is why Hojo asked him "oh, Is she yours?". He is quite possessive actually.

Bob spin offs ? Lol his major spin off appearances Dissidia and KH series hes referencing Tifa. The promised land line in the original references Cloud wanting to be forgiven. The promised land is the lifestream "all things return to the planet this it's the promised land. After defeating Sephiroth the party is unsure if it stopped Meteor and it's a somber note basically accepting death. We learn its forgiveness he wants in AC. Aerith and Cloud dont share any romantic scenes together Tifa and Cloud do. Aerith dying and figuring out Tifa is the female lead is part of the plot twist.
Extended material pushes Zack and Aerith pretty hard, the remake has Aerith litterally feeling Zack in the alternate time line and her final line in the game is a reference to her knowing hes currently dead.

"Gotta look forward not back." - Aerith, ffvii remake. If it does retcon her knowing he's dead it actually gives her even more incentive to move on with her life not less.
"Do I get a say in all this." - Cloud, ffvii remake, he admitted he had feelings for her with that one sentence. If he didn't he would have just said "not interested". Cloud and Aerith have many romantic scenes, just because you ignore them doesn't make them not romantic. In the original game they have two dates and spend the game flirting and Cloud straight out says he doesn't give a damn about Sephiroths plan to destroy the planet because Aerith is dead. In the remake they are constantly flirting which culminates in a love confession when Aerith tries to discourage him to protect him from the pain of losing her.
I know that square is trying to be unbiased by giving them equal screentime, and no disrespect to Tifa, she's great.

That's because Aerith is the official woman for Cloud. If you see the scoring system in date mechanics in FF7
Aerith is 50, while Tifa is 30. Which means Aerith is the official woman while Tifa is just optional.

@@leahjanulgue7200 Well from what Ik it was in the original script that Aerith was supposed to be main love interest. Was, so I suppose the game tried to push Aerith and Cloud at the OG. But then she dies so, then again, it's still debatable whether or not Cloud does end up with Tifa romantically, therefore it's not Canon eitherway. So I suppose there is no canonical love interest, maybe the remake might give us an actual answer?
And Ik it's not just Tifa you can date with. You can try getting Yuffie or Barret aswell

Why do people think Cloud got Zack's memories and feelings? If you played the OG, then you'll know that Cloud created his own memories, he created the memory he was a soldier and based his persona on Zack, he never got his memory or feelings. I've seen this misconception alot and has been debunked for thousands of times.

In the Japanese version it is *"Koibito"* which heavily implies Lovers in actual romantic sense.
Cloud's feelings in this scene is his own, not Zack, not everything that Cloud do is ZaCK.
Zack is in the past, his death is only used as a tragic background for both Cloud and Aerith, but many people took it the wrong way.
There are many people who support cloud has zack's feelings and memories. I wonder what game they played. Cloud clearly explained all his mess in the highwind after the mideel chapter. I really don't get this misunderstanding about that.

The only thing he got from Zack is his goal and the self proclaimed status as a first class soldier. Also becoming a merc. Zack said they should do that when they returned and cloud went by his words and did exactly that. If I remember zack told him to become his legacy the proof that Zack existed and lived. Even with his memories all mumbled that was pretty much what cloud did. I seriously don't know what people have been smoking. I mean I didn't play much of the original but know the whole story and played crisis core back and forth. There's not much to be confused about cloud's personal lol.

I remember leading up to Remake seeing some Tifa fans talking about how they were gonna "fix" FF7 by removing all the Clerith stuff from Remake. Instead they freakin' doubled down and actually had them use the word 'love' here but hey, at least they've got those giant windows to look at.
Like damn, I don't care to argue whether or not Cloud and Tifa got together eventually after the OG/AC, I don't think they did but whatever. I just despise that they try to erase Cloud and Aerith's relationship in the OG and grab at any straw they can to discredit it (Zack is inside Cloud, LOL) just to make themselves feel better.

For almost 23 years (since I was 11) I've always known Cloud and Aerith were the canon couple. To me, it was obvious in FF7. Over the years, the amount of people I've seen use misconceptions about the story (Cloud is Zack one of them) to say Cloud never loved her is insane. Yes, in the original game there were choices you could make to influence who the player liked more, but there was still a canon outcome. People would attack others who said they shipped Clerith. Gang up on them, tell them how stupid they were, etc. I want those people to watch this scene. Cloud basically just told Aerith he loves her, definitively, and he's not going to lose her.

I'm not trying to be vindictive, but it just feels good that all these years what I knew to be true (no matter how many times people tried to combat it) FINALLY get some hard validation from the creators.

Yep. Just because a player prefers Tifa (or now Jessie) doesn’t change the fact that Aerith was always Cloud’s choice. Aerith is the only answer on a storytelling level because what happens to her later in the story would have less impact if Cloud wasn’t in love with her.

The game leans more towards Barret x tifa than it does cloud x tifa I mean come on tifa is bland. Cloud and Aerith have so much chemistry between them
2:39, okay maybe someone had already pointed this but if this Aerith knows what will happen to her later on the history this line is super important, she’s warning Cloud to not fall in love with her because she knows that in OG Cloud loves her, and she knows that Cloud will suffer because os her death so she tries to warn him. Personally I truly believe that Cloud loved both Tifa and Aerith, but on different moments. Cloud loved tifa when they were childs, even when Cloud was working for Shinra, but I think that the story of Aerith and Cloud and the deep connection they had was truly amazing, Aerith wanted to know the real Cloud and really loved him, and she gave him so many happy memories between all his tragic past. (Sorry if this is confusing, english is not my first language and i Didn’t use a traductor)

@@AnbuPrincess the remake is a different timeline. Besides you can't lie that the Tifa moments with Cloud are mostly low-key thirsty moments and made up technically, it's not the original. The original had Clerith moments. Advent Children were technically milking from Square Enix.
Technically, Cloti fans can say all they want. I'm usually in the middle but mostly now a Clerith due to how fans are only supporting Tifa for her body. They can say all they want but you do know it's low-key for her image. We all remember her breast being a problem.
But still, I like it better when they never exactly said the real pair, just that it's for the viewer to decide. Both ships were never Canon and no one should claim what was canon.

Anyone notice during the tifa scene that cloud zones out and looks at the water which is VERY reminiscent of the forgotten city where aerith dies in of ff7? Then all the sudden tifa snaps him out of it by saying"your hurting me", as if he was clutching someone tightly like he didn't want to let them "sink" into the water? Totally think he was somehow feeling Aeriths death here simultaneously while holding tifa. Then when he tells Tifa it's not true that crying is a waste of time is a reference to something. Who else did we see cry in this game besides tifa just now? Cloud did earlier.......when he experienced the flashback of aerith leaving to pray for holy. He tells Tifa it's not a waste of time cuz he felt great sorrow himself and did it earlier in the game but doesn't even know why yet. BRAVO SQUARE ENIX! 👏

They do it because they are so insecure about their ship and also extremely threatened by Clerith. They try to prevent new fans to become Cleriths by spreading bs lies as much as possible (Cloud is Zack and Aerith only loves Zack in Cloud). Believe me, there are ppl in FB sending pm:s to new fans and try to make them reconsider their ship by telling them that they don't understand the game. That kind of behaviour doesn't scream confidence....it's pathetic.

Of course I have met nice Clotis too but unfortunately majority of the fandom are toxic and rude (at least from what I have seen). I always block these people in FB and Twitter and I suggest everyone to do the same. If they complain it's just because they are mad they they can't bully and harass. I have been blocked by some Clotis too (and I have never even discussed with them) but I am completely fine with that. If they don't like my writings it's an excellent choice to block me so that they don't have to hear anything from me. It's very simple.

Nope, this is not the real Cloud. Since Zack is presumably "alive", he will have a major role to fulfull his promise to Aerith since Crisis Core, and it's about time they have a happy ending. Cloud will still have the canon ending with Tifa.
If you are really saying that I'd guess that you haven't played the OG only CC. Cloud never became Zack, not once. He has his own feelings and his own emotions, the only thing that is wrong is the SOLDIER first class. He created this illusion himself and he says in in the OG. He is not possessed by Zack. He didn't even recognize Aerith when they first met, didn't recognize Zack's parents, remembers his childhood in Nibelheim, remembered the promise to Tifa, unless you want to say that happened between Zack and Tifa too? Everything is in the game. It is not like some Zack mode activates everytime Cloud interacts with Aerith. He is not a robot.
This dream scene happened for a reason in Cloud's subconscious so that NO ONE can say that he is not being himself. That's why we also have this important line: "Do I get a say in all this?". Cloud wants to get to say about his feelings, no one, not even Aerith, can say whether his feelings are true or not.
Nojima himself said that Aerith's lines "Can't fall in love" and "It's not real" got rejected a few times because it made seem that Aerith was looking down on Cloud and that clearly was not what this scene is about. He says that if you know Aerith's fate this line would really pull at your heart strings but if you don't you might interpret this differently. And the gap between two interpretations is interesting.
Like I said, I'm not interest in some arguing about this. I have played the OG game several and several times and I use confirmed facts to prove my statements.
It is true that we have no idea what might happen in part2. We shall see.

That's why Aerith told him that his feelings for her were not real in the sense that he was hiding in the persona of Zack as a fake SOLDIER 1st Class. Aerith became fond of him because he resembles his first love. Elmyra was even adamant of Cloud because of what happened in Crisis Core. Tifa will eventually break down his true self in the future installments. Nomura and Nojima will be using some story beats of FFVII Compilation in the Remake with the addition of Leslie, Kyrie, Kunsel, Advent Children Sephiroth, future Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz.

sight on a group of pointy rocks while their friends watch.
Later, on the Highwind, their friends tease them about the porno they put on under the Highwind. Tifa is mortified, but
Cloud, being used to people watch him have sex on pointy rocks, doesn't even flinch. He leaves Tifa to be teased and says
nothing to defend her.
After the fight with Sephiroth, Cloud finds himself surrounded by Lifestream. He thinks only of another woman he once
knew who died (rather than the one he just last night confessed to love and eagerly banged in full view of their friends), and
reaches toward the Lifestream, hoping to see her again. He is rewarded by a glimpse of her hand and reaches for it, only to
realize that the crater around him is crumbling. He grabs the hand only to discover it is Tifa's hand, and that they are in

stays in a place that reminds him of the dead girl rather than remaining close to his "true love" for the time he has left.
By the time AC rolls around, Cloud is perfectly content to die, although the woman he confessed to love is still very much
alive. Apparently, the forgiveness of that dead girl means more to him than the happiness of the woman he loves. It is only
after realizing that that dead girl never blamed him for her death that Cloud regains the will to live and fight.
After beating all the bad guys, Cloud ends up back at the church. His "true love" invites him back to her room with a sexy
look. Cloud ignores it and spots that pesky dead girl at the far end of the church. His "true love" is ignored from this point
on as his focus is entirely upon the dead girl as she walks away. He smiles beautifully at her as she speaks to him. In the
bonus video, "Calling", Cloud is seen riding out into a flower field where that dead girl is waiting.
Now let's look to the Clerith perspective..
Cloud and Tifa are left alone at the Highwind. They discuss their past mistakes and the healing process begins. They come
to realize how close they are and, while they didn't know one another as children, they are very close friends now. They
agree to support one another and stay in touch no matter what happens in the future.
The next morning, Tifa gets teased by their friends, who saw Tifa curled up asleep next to Cloud. Tifa, being naturally shy,
is embarrassed, especially since their friends don't even know what really happened. Cloud says nothing, not embarrassed
that they saw him allowing Tifa to sleep on his shoulder.
After the fight with Sephiroth, Cloud finds himself surrounded by Lifestream. He thinks only of Aerith, and reaches toward
the Lifestream, hoping to see her again. He is rewarded by a glimpse of her hand and reaches for it, only to realize that the
crater around him is crumbling. He grabs the hand only to discover it is Tifa's hand, and that they are in mortal danger.

of Aerith and that she will only ever be second best.

comfort, Cloud leaves and moves into Aerith's church, where he can still feel her presence. Knowing that he has a terminal
disease, Cloud chooses to spend his remaining days in the place where he and Aerith first met.
During AC, Cloud is content to die from Geostigma. He feels he has nothing left to live for since he failed to protect the
ones he loved, especially the one most precious to him- Aerith. However, after realizing that Aerith never blamed him and
that she never left his side, his guilt lifts and he regains the will to live and fight again.
After defeating the bad guys, Cloud ends up back at the church. All of his friends are there and they cheer for him, including
Tifa who gives him a happy "you did it" smile. But... they all fade away when he spots Aerith. He watches her in wonder
and smiles his most beautiful smile as she speaks to him. The ending, "Calling, shows Cloud riding out to a flower field
where Aerith appears to be waiting.

You know what sucks about video games with player story options? Is that as the player, Cloud, people believe that they get who he ends up with or whatever. When in fact, you’re just playing the story. 😂 All the characters already have their own character background and storyline REGARDLESS of the choices people(players) choose. The final fantasy theme that rolls in the credits should be able to wake you back into reality. 😂
I was glad ff7r didn’t let player choose Cloud reaction out of his character like original did. I guess that’s also why Clerith has more western fans than before since there’s minimal interpretation gap now. The game made they understood Asian subtle romance easier.

WARNING SPOILERS FOR END OF REMAKE
Having always been a huge Clerith Fanr I've been very happy in the way their relationship has been portrayed in Remake.
I'm going to ramble a bit here based on the very heavily implied notion that Aerith has knowledge of the Predestined Future Timeline
This became most readily apparent with the Sector 7 Plate fall. She cut off Tifa and mentioned Marlene, a name which she has only heard once in the train graveyard. She also seems to be sure that the Plate can't be stopped from falling. When she finds Marlene, there is a weird glitch moment that causes Marlene to calm down. Possibly showing Baret safe in the future. How she actually has this ability is debatable but the two most likely theories are that it's her consciousness from the OG or the planet telling her.
Looking at all her scenes with Cloud this way they can be perceived differently.
When Cloud meets her for the first time
Cloud: "How Much?"
Aerith: "Well that depends on the customer....in your case.... it's on the house"
Aerith: "Lovers used to give these when they were reunited"
There was no mention of lovers reuniting there. And no it's obvious the relationship wasn't a Physical one in the OG but it was very clear they were falling in love.
When Aerith is talking to the Flower
Aerith"Well today is special. It's why I've been working my butt off."
Cloud "Uh....whats so special about it"
Aerith just laughs as if only she knows why.
The Park Scene
Aerith mentions Zack's name clearly for Cloud which causes one of his little jolts he looks down lift's his hand to his head and closes his eyes.
Aerith ask;s if he is o.k, and when he looks up she very close and gazing intently at him as if she is looking for some she makes a comment on how Blue his eyes are/ His comments all soldiers have them and them her reply of Yeah I know, then she hangs her head in disappointment stands and says she sorry for bumming him out and they should go. With the future knowledge theory she would know Clouds at this point has Amnesia and has forgotten about Zack, this may be an attempt to jolt him out of it.
A deeper connection is also implied on his side. Apart from Marlene and red who Aerith Physically touches, Cloud is the only Person to have some sort of future premonition until the harbinger battle. Both of them Involving Aerith, the second one so powerful it actually causes him to shed a tear. When Sephiroth torments him in Chapter two about his Mothers death, Cloud does not weep.
"The line in this sequence about all the moments and memories we have shared" Is a little strange if she has only known him for around 24 hours. "Everyone Dies Eventually" and the praying position she is in while she says it also lends to this.
The "it's not real" "It's useless" Mistranslation. Don't even get me started on that.
I could state a lo more conversation that are similar to the ones above.
Two final thoughts. She mentions that when Whispers touch her she feels as if she loses apiece of herself, this could be them attempting to stop her altering destiny.
She's also reluctant to pass the portal at Destiny's Crossroads. Up to this point she has been confident in what will come to pass. But from now on "Limitless Terrifying Freedom awaits"
The ending Suggests there is a Universe where Zack and Aerith get to be together.
But in the universe we are in it's Cloud and Aerith 100%. Lets hope that after such a long time they get a happy end at last.
She indeed does have knowledge of the other time line as it is strongly implied throughout the game, Aerith and Sephiroth both have knowledge of 1997 FFVII. So when she said "But whatever happens, you can't fall in love with me. Even if you think you have... It doesn't mean anything unless Nomura and Nojima added something concrete explanation in the game. The design of the game was like a Harem in Anime. Cloud revealed himself by the help of Tifa in Disc 3 unless she would die in the Remake and Aerith lives which would bummed a lot of fans. We also have Zack in the picture and other characters from FFVII Compilation like Leslie, Kyrie, Kunsel, AC Sephiroth and would add a lot more in future installments. If they would create a canon ending, this is the best time to do it.

Replay the OG and take careful note of what he says in the Highwind, after Tifa helped him recover his memory.
He clearly say that he made up this story based on what HE saw and what his friend Zack TOLD him (among other things). There is no magical or spiritual memory exchange.
He does not have Zack's memories, otherwise he would probably remember Aerith.
He does not have Zack's persona, he act nothing like him.
Cloud's memory are his own.
Cloud's feelings are his own.
However Cloud do have retrograde amnesia and he does not remember Zack Fair, probably due to PTSD.
I don't know why people tend to think like that. Never, in any entries of the Compilation, this idea of "Cloud is Zack" was really implied. I guess it's the easy answer to Cloud's complex character development.
As for Aerith's line.
There is many reasons why she can say "it's not real", we can only speculate for know.

I think that it's because she knows that she is going to die, so she is trying to save him from the pain he will experience.
If her "it's not real" comment is referring to the fact that he is not completely himself because of the new soldier persona he has created for himself using Zack's memories-(he is not possessed by Zack, he does not act like Zack's cheerful personality, and he does not have Zack's memories of Aerith- I might add)-I think she wants to ensure that Cloud is 100% himself when he loves her, not the macho soldier persona he has created for himself. I also believe that even though she knows that the real Cloud is in there, and his feelings are valid, she knows that she will die, so it's easier for her to try to separate herself from that. You can see how pained she is to say it. Cloud even tells her to "embrace the moment" when she hesitates to speak, and I believe she uses the moment to try to make things less painful for them both.
However, I do think that Cloud's feelings are legitimate. Cloud is not a character to express how he feels too openly. After she tells him that "it isn't real", he tries to grab her hand to stop her as she pulls away.
Think about how this would end up if his hand didn't go through her. He would grab her hand and stop her as she is walking away. He's saying: "Wait-"
Cloud then says: "Don't I get a say in this?" Meaning: "What about what I think? What about my opinion?"
Cloud doesn't usually try to talk about his feelings, but here he is trying to stand his ground. I don't think this is something that can be completely disregarded just because of the whole "he thinks he's a soldier who believes some of Zack's stories are his own" thing. Cloud is still in there, and you can see in his time with Aerith that he begins to drop some of his "tough soldier persona" act and be a little more himself. Like when he tells the flowers to learn how to talk to her-very out of the persona's character. I think those moments are more of the real Cloud coming to light, just like the moment in this scene here.

I’m a CloTi supporter but I’m also a CleRith respecter and I truly hope that the sequels will let us choose who Cloud will end up with. Our Human Chocobo deserves to be happy (they all do in fact). Even though I’m a CloTi supporter and find their interactions not just cute but also beautiful and meaningful I can also say the same for CleRith.
If we choose then we are ignoring Clouds feelings, Square has to choose not us.

With this, the developers show us that it was already a dead Aerith, or an Aerith that can travel on the Lifestream . After the scene, she discussed it and said, "The motivation for why Aerith says that ("You can't fall in love with me. Even if you think you have... it's not real"), it all ties into Cloud's backstory, and Aerith's backstory." Note, she says the motivation behind it is their backstories, their pasts, meaning it's about Cloud not being "real" at this time, and she also said it ties into Aerith's backstory, so what else could that have to do with other than Zack. After 7 minutes of talking about it, as she was about to move on with the game, she stopped briefly to include as a sidenote that one of the reasons the scene can hit hard is because of what happened in Final Fantasy 7, meaning it can hit differently for someone who knows her fate from the OG, but it's quite clear with what Brianna said that the primary motivation and intent for the scene is about tying into Cloud's backstory and him being "not real," and tying into Aerith's backstory. Pulling at your heart strings from knowing her fate is just a collateral result for people who know her fate from the OG.

No, because Aerith broke up with Zack and moved on from him and then fell in love with Cloud. Toriyama, the co-director and co-screenwriter of the game said that even though Aerith tells Cloud to not fall in love with her, her true wish is to be with him.
Tbf, we don’t know the circumstances of Zack “being alive” yet. The reason i say this is because having Zack alive will mean they have to re-write Cloud’s whole backstory.
I think Cloud and Aerith will end up together if she doesn’t die. First loves aren’t always the last. That’s always been the story of OG - “a love that could never be” it was marketed. The first loves add backstory and drama to their characters and relationship.

Daddy & Jack apparently there’s three scenes involving Tifa Barret and Aerith where they each have their own moments with cloud depending on the relationship you make with each one leading up to this particular moment. I got Tifa’s scene, while you may have gotten either hers or Barrett’s if you didn’t see this one

Frank Funke It starts from the flower choice, includes the drink choice with Tifa, even things like talking to the hotel staff at Wall Market, basically all choices you make influence Chapter 14’s outcome, and whether you get Tifa, Aerith, or Barrett

I preferred Cloud and Tifa because Tifa was so kind and good to cloud. She even stayed behind with cloud when he got poisoned in the life stream 😢
She was kind though it was not enough, She needed to break through Cloud and take him out of his shell but couldn't do it due to the fact that she never had a sincere and real connection with him before. You can never deny that despite Tifa was good to Cloud. Aerith was the better option.
It’s kinda sad when Tifa realized her mistake and changed herself, no matter how much she devoted she couldn’t reach Cloud’s heart anymore.
I think she deserves to move on to another nice guy more than sticking with the past.
Tifa really was amazing and supported Cloud. But, at that point, Cloud had already realized his love for Aerith. But their story was cut short before anything could truly come out of it (ie. Death/sephiroth). That is a big reason Cloud hated Sephiroth, the circumstances of Aerith’s death were truly heartbreaking.
Now, after Aerith’s death in OG, if you had high enough affection points for Tifa, you’d get a scene where they confirm their feelings for each other. But that is an optional scene (which may yet be canonized in the remake, tbf) but, thematically, from what is already written in the story/canon/official marketing, Cloud never truly got over Aerith’s death. Not even in AC. Maybe, AFTER AC but that was never explicit. Thematically, it’s been consistently Aerith & Cloud. In Japan, it’s practically a given regardless what they ship. I think it’s only with International fans is this overwhelmingly a debate.
Also, that is why some shippers don’t want Aerith to live in Remake - Because this will definitely affect the Cloud-Tifa post-death dynamics. People may not admit it but there’s always been a hanging cloud that if Aerith never died, Cloud and Aerith would have been together.

Obviously this scene happens only in the case the player chooses Aerith in love interactions, so basically it can't happen unless you DO make Cloud fall in love with her. Personally I think the canon for Cloud is having a big crush developing on Aerith first, going to the Gold Saucer date with her etc, but then losing her and then falling in love with Tifa again more and more as he's regaining his true persona. And Aerith being still dear to him as memories of love. That's why he's so traumatised and has difficulties letting himself love and be happy in AC
I’ve never seen Cloud’s romance get anywhere after he lost Aerith. Drop the development of love relationship. It’s like his time has frozen from that point toward the end of AC when he able to forgive himself.
