I'm in my mid 30's. My dad is coming up on 70 so he doesn't get the whole video game thing. He thought they're dumb and a waste of time. My family and I lived at his house for a year after I got out of the military (we were saving to buy a house) and I played the whole game from start to finish in his living room. He watched every night for weeks. It got to the point where he would rather watch me play the game than watch tv. He started asking me to do specific things like "hey can you go check that out over there?", "steal that coach.", "You're telling me that if you wanted to you could go all the way to the top of that mountian?...do it!", "Look out for that bear!", etc. If this game can do that to my dad then it truly is something special.
Nice story. Videogames can make powerfull impressions and memories...
Really enjoyed this comment, hope both you and your dad are well !!

Great story, terrible game. I honestly hate this game, I think its overrated garbage. But unlike Souls games, I get the hype, i can see why people think its a masterpiece. With souls like games like Elden ring, I just dont get, even tho I would rather play Elden ring thatn RDR2, its just a high floor low ceiling game in sports terms, its fine, but I dont get why so many people think those souls games are GOATS, they are just fine. When I told people I dont like RDR2 or Elden ring, they say I dont like games anymore, but I dont know, I play Witcher 3 for a third time, and still love it. RDRD is so scripted, so minimal in gameplay, it barely counts as game to me, its a good playthrough watch on youtube, but a terrible actual gameplay experience.

There’s such a calm natural energy to the game. I remember a moment where some dark/disturbing music began playing randomly as I rode my horse, it got louder and louder until I came upon a body that had been ritualistically murdered. Old Rockstar games would have played that moment as a time for humor or zaniness, but this game just kept that disturbing music going until I got on my horse and left. It was a strange feeling riding away from that body on my horse. There wasn’t a line of dialogue, but I rode away in a different state of mind, thinking about the evil that exists in the world
RDR 2 is the culmination of 8 years of developers pouring their heart and soul into it and budget that hasn't been surpassed till this very day and what you get is the most polished, detailed, and lively open world game to date, you may not like it but you cant deny its one of the greatest achievements in any work of fiction not just gaming and thats even ignoring the top tier story with one of the best protagonists ever.
It’s absolutely a technical achievement but years later, what you remember is one of the best written and performed protagonists in gaming. Even if you’re a 21st century cubicle worker that has never left an urban city center, there is so much about Arthur Morgan that’s relatable, believable and admirable. Truly one of the GOAT protagonists in any medium.

RDR1 was better they never mentioned Arthur or other so called main characters in RDR1. They killed off Arthur for no reason… Arthur who supposedly had a major impact on John’s life is never mentioned by John in RDR1… WHO THINKS RDR2 IS SO GREAT 😂🤣. I can honestly say I've never had a video game toy with my emotions as much as this one.. the whole story was just so immersive that i was truly shaken with the loss of Arthur and to some extent the other gang members as the story progressed. The " End " of the game brought on such a flurry of emotions.. Sadness for Arthur, pride in his selflessness to save Johns family, anger at Micha and Dutch's betrayal of not only Arthur but ultimately the whole gang and everyone who trusted them. This game was truly a masterpiece in every sense that it could be, and I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours playing it over and over and still find it every bit as enjoyable if not moreso than the first time I did. If I could only play one game forever, this would definitely be the game.

Storytelling, gameplay. Plus picturesque graphics and SO many tiniest details considered by the game designers and implemented in the game! After so many years some new features are still found and never stop amazing the gamers!
It's just a whole new level of game development - and, therefore, of game playing.
The most underrated part of RDR2 is the side missions. There are so many optional honor missions and stranger missions to do, and every single one of them is unique and adds a lot of creative variety to the game that I have never seen in other story games.
I did the Charlotte Balfour side missions for the first time last week and there was so much that could have been done there. I must have not bothered with that corner of the map before. I much preferred the RDR2 side missions over the GTA5 side missions - especially things like after debt collecting you can help the individuals and get to see their lives.

I was honestly very surprised how slow paced it was, how heavy every movement felt, but I really appreciated that. It was just right for the kind of story and atmosphere they wanted to convey. My favorite parts of the game wasn’t the high action shoot outs- though those are fun too- but just riding around the world discovering all the details and beauty and hidden stories. It’s probably the only game that really invoked emotions in me.
Felt like a real story here that they created and all the other things you can do with its realism is just, something else 🙌❤️
I feel we won’t get another game like it.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is already a classic just like the original.
This game is a masterpiece of world design and storytelling. The level of immersion RDR2 offers is really unparalleled compared to other open world games. It really feels more like a Wild West sim than a video game. Plus this game really does have the best voice acting I’ve ever heard in a game.. ohh man I could talk for hours why RDR2 is so amazing
But in the end for (I agree with your points) me, its just a snoozefest gameplay funwise, i couldnt even finish the snow part in the beginning
@@moes95 might speak more about your personal attention span rather than anything else. Snow bit in the beginning is a tutorial and I guess an effective filter for fortnite people
@@moes95 story was great but yes in many ways it was boring as f***
Exactly why I hate it, the game is too much of a sim. Loved RD1, just cannot bare to play this game.
@@SmoothOperador agreed. The beginning is a bit slow for some people’s liking I’m sure but it’s worth getting through. After my first play through I learned a lot that helped me with my 2nd time through.
4 years later and its still my favorite game. its just so good. and it makes me wish rockstar would hit the brakes on the crap they have been doing and just focus on making more games like this. it also hurts knowing that it will probably be a decade before they start working on a sequel or just a long time before they make another game that hits like this one.
One thing I love about the game is that it’s not a stressful playthrough. It’s laid back and you can take your time. But still enthralling.
*It's the greatest gaming experience I ever had ! I'm still waiting for a game to surpass rdr 2 ! None did till now 🐐*
What game is better...
Same here, only thing that comes close is Witcher 3
@@seanthegamer1337 No game is better then rdr2 campaign it was an absolute masterpiece the only game I see that hopefully will contend with it is witcher 4🤞
@@Anonymous-py7ix for me it's god of war ! It came close but not on rdr lvl at all ! Rdr 2 is the goat
@UCUia-n_BKdLPHEHGvfNcdvQ I have high hopes on Hogwarts legacy too ! Time has to tell
RDR2 was one of my favorite games of all time. The story is masterfully executed, and the game is never afraid to take its time and let those little moments marinade. I always advise new players “take your time, don’t be in a rush. Inhabit the world.”
Also:
Show, don't tell.
Wich this game doesnt wonderfully
This is a masterpiece, nothing else to add.
Arthur's journal is one of my favorite things in the game. I'm not usually a fan of games giving you a bunch of things to read, but I really enjoyed opening up his journal after moving to a new camp and reading his perspective about the events in the story. His sketches and even his handwriting are extra details that show how much effort was put into this game.
also a huge fan of the ambient music
One of the biggest mistakes I think a player can make with this game is rushing the story. Explore. Visit camp. Collect things. Hunt. Let the story marinate in your mind for a bit before doing the next mission. Digest everything.
In my 1st playthrow when I learned the full game mechanics and how to fish, sell, hunt, craft I was already in the end of chapter 4
This game doesn't mean to be rush. You have to take your time so you can connect with the characters and the world.
@@mohamedhichemmouzali6505 me too! Lmao I spent so much time rushing that I missed a lot of important dialogue and events. It's worth going back for another playthrough imo. I'm trying to take things slow now. I also find that the horse riding and map size doesn't annoy me when I actually explore and visit camp inbetween missions instead of just going from story quest to story quest. My first playthrough all I did was story quests, back-to-back. So it got frustrating how I had to travel so far all the time. Now I hunt, fish, collect things, etc. Meet new NPCs, talk to camp members. Sometimes I don't even ride my horse and we both just walk across the whole map and find so many secrets. Now I don't hate the horses anymore
This and the last of us series are the first games I ever actually cried over, you just get so connected with the characters, it's crazy. But I don't think rockstar will be able to pull off another title lime this.
Too little hype and too much greatness
I thought this game was going to be good, but I just had no idea how good it was going to be. So emotionally deep, such complexity in the story and exploration.
The ending and epilogue were absolute perfection.
It's in my top 3 games, with BoTW and TLoU (part 1 and 2).
This game was the last one I was able to really dig into, due to a lot of stuff I had to do and not enough time for playing videos games a lot. Played it on console, then wanted to play it again when it finally came out for pc, bought it for pc in sale like one to two years later and didn't play it since. For me, being a big fan of the AC games until Origins, RDR2 just easily became my new favorite game and it really doesn't feel like it has been almost 4 years since its release, more like two, lol. But hell, the two years pandemic just ruined my feeling more time anyway.
God-tier game.
Agreed
You guys are right on track, in my opinion. The storyline, while long, is amazing. I wish they would have done more with Sadie and her character line, perhaps they will. Arthur Morgan is by far my favorite character of all time in any game. I never felt so much emotion behind the end of a character prior. RDR2 and the first one are amazing games and ones that will stand time. Thank you for a wonderful video!
As much as I love Arthur, I need so bad to play as Sadie. I'd love to have at least a DLC settled between chapter 6 and the epilogue where we can see how she became a bounty hunter.
@@SydBarker I 100% agree with you! Seeing her progression through the chapters was a huge part of what made Arthur even more in my eyes. Sadie was also a huge part of getting the Marston's setup on their ranch. I honestly though they were going to add DLC for her, but never did.
I love Sadie, I wish we could meet her with her husband, i think seeing her before her trauma would be really therapeutic for some people. We change so much after certain things happen, especially S trauma and loss of loved ones. I think she mentioned she used to perform music for her husband, but even after you give her a harmonica she never plays around people. I don't remember the specific details but that admission, that she simply can't do certain things in front of anyone else (basically ever again unless she's truly alone) is so heart-rending to me. I understand why she needed her revenge, and every time it's the first thing I do once it becomes available as a mission. I wish we could still posse up against obvious offenders, but my only therapy will come in forms such as Mrs. Adler's. The statute of limitations is vile that's all imma say.
RDR 2's the best solo player experience. Ever. A must-play for ALL gamers.
Just bought it and your goddamn right
@Gabriel De Torres Great! Enjoy it and exploration is very much worth it.
The greatest Rockstar game ever! A masterpiece. Even if the game wanted a 200$ price tag, I'd buy it without hesitation.
Woah idk about that
@@christopherthreadgill6195 Then second greatest Rockstar game ever, its really hard to put RDR2 any lower than that
@@Scottish_Transport_Explorer oh no I think its greatest R* game ever, I was talking about the 200$ part lmao.
Game is 4 years old and yet nothing has come close to the immersion and details
The connection I felt I grew with Arthur throughout playing the story is unlike anything I've experienced before, whether through movies, books, or games. His story is nuanced, detailed, and deep. The storyline and experiences are realistic and yet almost magical. I loved every minute of RDR2, even the sad ones. They helped contribute to an overall beautiful picture that I have not seen in any other video game. Add the story to the amazing, immersive open world with endless things to do and I have spent more hours than I can count on just hunting, camping, and enjoying the passage of time in this game.
Just love how much people feel for this game it truly is magnificent and brings people together
Favorite game of all time for me. Preordered it, played to completion (story wise) in exactly a week. And have poured hundreds of hours into online with my friends. Holds a special place in my heart as the first Red Dead was the first game I played on the 360
I’m surprised practically no one has played or even heard about Red Dead Revolver …
Red Dead 1 and 2 are my favorite game series of all time. I really think it sets an unbeatable precedent for action games. I don’t think any game will beat its story. Just look at Last of Us 2 or Dying Light 2… good but doesn’t scratch that itch.
Do you mean red dead revolver as first red dead or redemption
@@antonijegrmusa4640 referring to the first Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an absolute masterpiece, the story is one of the most powerful ones I have ever seen in a game, Arthur Morgan is the best protagonist created by Rockstar Games, he has so much depth, you really feel like your on the journey with him throughout the game, the open world, man you could spend hours upon hours exploring the gorgeous world, no game since has come close to it in my opinion, even 4 years on the game still is a joy to play, Rockstar Games best game and my personal favorite game of all time, a timeless classic 👏👏👏👏
This game made me tear up. That final ride back to the camp before it all goes to crap the music hit me.
A graphically and mechanical masterpiece. Such a good game
Best game I ever played. The only one I played for 6 months straight, more than 500 hours just to do it 100%. Hunting all the animals to make all the special clothes took me forever...
By far I’ve put more hours into RDR2 story mode than any game in my 20+ years of gaming. Every time a new game comes out I play that to the end game, then while waiting on the next thing I boot up RDR2 and play it start to finish and everything in between. It kinda gets in the way of life, RDR2 story even though I know it cover to cover it is the best game I’ve owned and played, but one thing is the pace is kinda refreshing most other games now are just fast paced and you just get in the moment of just wanting to finish it. With this I don’t. . Yes there are great games out there but this has to be my #1.
I just beat this game again for the third time and I'm impressed even more each time at how beautiful and detailed the world is! Easily one of the best games I've ever played!!
Bro... i bought a new gaming laptop after my last laptop being 2013 model and low end gaming... The first game i installed was rdr2 and boy was everything about it amazing and after i was done i downloaded some games and nothing could feel the same or upto the experience that i had with rdr2
Such a phenomenal game. In every single way. I've yet to see a game that has the story, graphics, gunplay art style, massive well made open world, memorable characters (quality AI as well) and so much more.
It's crazy. I remember the trailer first came out and I was like "Who is Arthur? F that I want to play as John!". Then I played it and was like "F John, I want my Arthur back!".
One of the few games I was invest enough to cry when my Arthur died.
10/10 one of the best games I've played in my life.
This game is a master piece! So much detail on every form. It's a lively world and completely engrossing, from story to travelling around the world hunting. It feels like a real RPG world you want to take your time with.
I really hope they update this game for the newer consoles.
rdr2 is a masterpiece
So I played it on xbox one in 2018. I thought it was the most beautiful game then.. Here I am in 2024 playing it on PC and holy crap, man... It's like a brand new game. Everything is on ultra and high frame rate, surround sound headphones... It is UNREAL. To me, this is THE GAME that has set the example for many to come... And, just like other people commenting below, I feel almost ripped off by other games. Nothing has compared to RDR2. Nothing has reached the beauty and realism like it has with RDR2. I think this is why so many people are excited for GTA6 because (although its not the wild wild west) they will get that realism back in some shape or form.
RDR2 should be re-visited. ESPECIALLY on PC (if you can). It will elevate your experience and immerse you in ways you didn't think were possible.
This guy has great observations. Love the video and your takes! Hope rockstar keeps taking their time with the games so we can keep having these masterpieces instead of a rushed unpolished game. People keep rushing these companies and they end up making an abomination like cyberbug was.
You're not making too big a deal of RDR2 - it is at the pinnacle of what gaming can be. It's a true masterpiece
I don’t think I’ll ever in my life have a passion and love for a video game ,I have been playing this game since august of 2019 and have played this game 17 and now on my 18th play through and I honestly don’t ever want to leave this world rockstar has created(you’ll think I’m crazy but it’s just out of passion and my utter love for this piece of art that I just can’t ever see myself stop experiencing),The characters, the realism and especially the story ,I can’t emphasize more the story part ,for me it’s the first video game to make me cry and it’s just a masterpiece in every way shape or form.
Hell yea
The sad thing is people really don't want quality now they want starfield
One of the very best gaming experiences ever. Wonderful narrative and such a polished presentation (cough…cyberpunk). Shame about the unfulfilled promise of RDR2 online
The graphics, and writing were just so above and beyond what had come before it. The gameplay was an imalgamation of a bunch of things we've done before in other games, but it was all done so well, and in a way that was hardcore yet still fairly casual.
It's been seven years since the last time I played through the first Red Dead Redemption (16 years old at the time)...I only realised it after completing rdr2 and it hit me like a train, there are so many emotions that are connected to these games (let alone through the music). I can't describe this feeling but...like Dutch said, "you can't fight nature", it's the same with time...and I come back to this song: "that's the way it is"...realising that's life and we always have to try our best no matter the circumstances. So stay strong brothers and sisters!
Thank you rockstar games for those masterpieces and emotional journeys.
nice
There has never been a game that has matched this since. Still the GOAT.
One of the very few games that has a story that lives up to its hype and even the cinematic media
Because it’s the perfect balance of hardcore rpg and action adventure mixed in with an amazing story
I finished RDR2's story recently and loved the whole experience, everything about the game was beautiful and amazing.
As we play the game; we really get to learn about Arthur Morgan and understand him on a human level. Everything he says or does has meaning to his character. That's some good writing, acting, gameplay, music-- just, everything about it.
What a great game, truly.
Still the best open world game. The world feels completely real and story/characters are fully realized.
I felt so sad when it was all over, and not just because I knew what comes next for John.
10/10
i think you hit the nail in the head describing Arthur as a character. He's tired and has a pessimistic view of the world because of what he's seen, but remains willing to give the benefit of the doubt. As the player, I could identify with this. His willingness to listen to others helps with our curiosity when exploring the world while his pessimistic view puts things in perspective for us. He was a great lens for us to travel to THAT America.
Put 100s of hours into it and cried -sobbed through end of Arthur’s arc. Best game ever IMO. It was beautifully crafted world with a great story and phenomenal voice acting etc.
first time I play RDR fell in love with it, played the game non-stop for months, even started watching some cowboy movies lol, needless to say RDR2 just won me over, with everything and the character development was just spot on, by far my favorite game, still go back to it from time to time.
cowboy movies...come on...its called a "western"
do not buy this game...worst decision of my life , because now i cannot enjoy any other open world game without comparing the realism and mechanics to this one.
This game is still amazing 10/10
