Terrific video! So glad to see such great tips to reduce that shine. I wear mostly blacks and dark brown, and colored dry shampoo is a standby. The baking soda bath helps too. I've always used woolite for cleaning, mixed with a tablespoon of baking soda. Been wearing wigs for 25 years so I might know a little about this stuff. Lol. Awesome video as usual!!

@@loridelafuente2548 Hi Lori, I have several human hair wigs, but mostly I wear synthetics because they are ready to wear at a moment's notice. I try to keep them brushed and styled on a Styrofoam head. Grab and go. Human hair is labor intensive, wash, condition, blow dry,set with hot rollers or flat iron...Since you're new to wigs, look up videos on RUclips on the care and styling of synthetics. Get yourself a hand held steamer, wig brush, wide tooth comb, watch those videos to learn how to steam out the inevitable frizzies and tangling at the nape of the wig. You'll learn that you can use wire mesh rollers and the steamer to recurl or restyle wigs that have seen better days. Synthetics are made of plastic, and plastic can be bent and shaped with heat, just be careful, go slow, and you'll get the hang of it.

I've been wearing wigs for years and wash my synthetic units with Woolite and for the "conditioner," use unscented fabric softener. The dry shampoo and the baking soda technique(s) for reducing shine really work. Thanks for another enlightening video, Ms. Taz !
The difference after the baking soda bath is impressive! Bless you for this video. Just purchased some synthetic hair for locs extensions and although it hasn’t been delivered yet it will most definitely be too shiny compared to my natural dry and thin hair 😂 needed a more permanent solution for the shine issue Can’t wait to try this when it’s delivered!
That's excellent, Taz! You can really tell the difference! I use the dry shampoo, but I'll tell ya, I may use this technique on some of the shinier wigs I have that which dry shampoo doesn't work too well with! Thanks!! Hope you had a great Sunday!! : )
Thank you so much for this review! Can I use the baking soda method on hand tied wigs and heat friendly fibers as well? And will the style remain the same after siaking even on very curly wigs?

The wig I treated is ciri's one And it make the sine disappear and also make it softer and easier To brush. I think I would do this for every wig I will receive soon Thank you
Thanks Taz. I wear dark color wigs and they can really shine. I used dry shampoo for brunettes but I can see the film on the fibers. I’ll have to try the baking soda rinse. Great tutorial
Once again you have really given us excellent information and advice. I absolutely LOVE to watch yourself videos. You are so sweet and intelligent and a pleasure to watch.
No question, you tamed the shine by all three methods -- it is quite obvious in this video and you made it look so simple. I like the baking soda bath. I wish I had known that shine would dissipate, when I first started wearing wigs. I gave away a few simply because they were too shiny and now can see that was premature. That said, I got a JR silicon spray to put on the heat friendly wigs to protect them each time I wear them and before putting them away, so I guess we add and subtract that coating as we need it. Funny, the silicon treatment does not seem to add shine, for some reason. This was helpful, especially for people who don't realize the shine is not a permanent problem! xo
Thank you sooo much!🔥 I just purchased some faux locs- they are beautiful...~but shine-Neee!!! Your wig turned out great! I’m going to try your methods and let you know which one worked best for me!🤗
Yes, definitely less shine on the dry-shampoo-treated side. I had to laugh with sympathy about your reaction to the spray. I do that too! And also with room freshener! :)And I thought after the baking soda rinse it was less shiny also, and fell more naturally too. Very informative video. Didn't know that about baking soda=salt and that dry shampoo was basically talcum. Thanks!

Hi Taz as always very helpful tips for us with are wigs. I have used the dry shampoo. I will try the baking soda I really could see the difference. Thank you very helpful.
Ok, going to put my new discovery here to share. So I purchased the L’Oreal Magic Root Cover Up spray. I have a few brunette wigs. One is the color Coffee Latte in the Amore and ROP lines. They are a little shiny for my liking. The L’Oreal spray has a super, super fine mist. Sprayed it all over…amazing! So excited it worked without clumping the fibers and no perfume smell or tell tale residue. I tried the dry shampoo for brunettes and the droplets were too large and didn’t really work. Left visible residue. I didn’t spray a lot either. The Root Cover Up spray comes in different shades too.

Hi Taz. Just to clarify one of your suggestions. I don’t think foundation powder is used, I know my foundation powder has my skin tone as it’s color. I believe what is suggested is the clear finishing powder...I might not be calling it by the correct name, maybe it’s called setting powder? ...but it is colorless.

I wonder if I'm using the wrong liquid fabric softener or if I have synth wigs on which it just doesn't work. I've tried the fabric softener method on my Lapin d'or wigs and my Dream Holic wigs and it just makes them more shiny. I've used baby powder and dry shampoo but that makes them rough and hard to comb through, plus it might transfer on black clothing so that doesn't have my preference either. Vinegar also didn't work on my wigs. I also used baking soda, also didn't work. This is maddening because I've seen fabric softener work on the cheapest "party city" wigs, but it doesn't seem to work on my wigs.
Thank you!! My throat clenches up at the first hint of it... I usually go in another room and hold my breath until I'm done..lol! Good info to know! XOXO
I have 100% human hair bundles from a trusted hair company but for some reason it came out of the bag looking very shiny. Is the baking soda bath okay for human hair? And is the soaking for 4 hours okay for human hair as well? I only ask because I've seen instructions elsewhere that say only 5 minutes 😳. Human and synthetic hair will react differently to soaking in the baking soda correct? Sorry for all the questions I am just scared of ruining my v expensive hair 😭
I used the baking soda bath on a brand new JR Cameron and it was so dry and crispy I can’t wear it. I used cold water and about 2 tbsp of baking soda 😪. Is there anyway to remedy this? I tried simply styling and Argonne oil already! Would love to reverse this process. Thanks.
Baking Soda is a salt and the synthetic fiber does not take it up into the fiber because it is not porous, so I would think making sure you rinse and rinse and rinse and do a nice soak in conditioner XOXO
I have used super sulfate free shampoo that was made for little babies when my kids were little and it kept the fibers ok, but it was just as expensive as synthetic wig products so I just stick to the products designed for wig use
My cosplay wig was very shiny and this video helped so much! I also absolutely love your energy 💕

When I use the dry shampoo to get rid of the shine I go outside to do it. It gets to me too.
Careful with spraying that talcum powder. I breathed in medicated talcum powder for an itchy scalp and developed double pneumonia!
Thank you!! My throat clenches up at the first hint of it... I usually go in another room and hold my breath until I'm done..lol! Good info to know! XOXO
Oh my gosh I’m glad you’re ok now!
@@TAZSWIGCLOSET Dry shampoo has a lot of toxic ingredients.......be careful.
Thank you! Much needed!!!!
I recommend emailing support@wigstudio1.com XOXO
I have 2 darker wigs i am definitely trying this on today. Love the wigs, not the shine
Your eyes are gorgeous
🤗🤗🤗
I've found this very helpful, though i use Sauve shampoo
I used the baking soda bath on a brand new JR Cameron and it was so dry and crispy I can’t wear it. I used cold water and about 2 tbsp of baking soda 😪. Is there anyway to remedy this? I tried simply styling and Argonne oil already! Would love to reverse this process. Thanks.
Baking Soda is a salt and the synthetic fiber does not take it up into the fiber because it is not porous, so I would think making sure you rinse and rinse and rinse and do a nice soak in conditioner XOXO
apple cider vineyard also gets rid of shine. and talc too.
do you have to wash the wig after a day with dray shampoo or some other product?
I wash my wigs every 8-9 wearings with wig safe shampoo:-) XOXO
Just Skip to 6:15. You're welcome!😉
Cool who knew !
I know were supossed to use shampoo formulated for synthetic wigs, but what will happen to it if we use regular hair shampoo?
I have not tried it, but most shampoos have sulfates that may damage synthetic fibers. XOXO
I have used super sulfate free shampoo that was made for little babies when my kids were little and it kept the fibers ok, but it was just as expensive as synthetic wig products so I just stick to the products designed for wig use
I’m new here and I got a new synthetic wig and it’s frizzy, how do I get rid of the friz
Maybe try steaming the areas of frizz? Shoot some steam at it while using round brush to pull through:-) XOXO
