Origin is picked based on where you played your first A - grade game. Obviously, the structure in league In Australia is different but as you say there's a whole load of things that would be looked at to make this a success and fair
I would love this to happen! You can even (if successful) feed it down per league. So you have the prem/championship/ national leagues then regional leagues that have a North vs South with the winner playing the next level up as a huge tournament

i think it should strictly be by region of birth so the players are deffo playing for where they come from. I would not allow players not born here to keep it absolutely region of origin. I'd draw a line through centre of Norwich through centre of Birmingham to separate N from S. If a player does not wan to play for his birth region then fair enough - he doesnt get picked.

There’s loads of regional rugby unions in England (about 30-40 of them) let’s make them take surveys for debate able midland counties and then they are deciding themselves

Don’t know where they’re built now, but Rolls-Royce had their factory in Crewe, Cheshire. Although Rolls-Royce cars are no longer produced in Crewe, the Bentley is - in fact you can go in a tour of the factory. RR and Bentley are Northern!
The only State of Origin type of game you need is Cornwall vs Devon for the Tamar Cup. Best of three, two games in Cornwall one year one in Devon, reverse it the next. Bin off the Bill Beaumont Cup. This would be a true State/County of Origin type game.
Include players who originally qualified for multiple nationalities including England but chose to represent a different country ( maybe because they were more likely to be selected). Have a selection of qualifying conditions and you're eligible if you tick X out of y boxes. A wild card player who plays in England but doesn't qualify otherwise.

Other South coaches in this hypothetical game to consider are Nick Easter, Nick Kennedy, Richard Cockerill (Coventry), Toby Booth, Martin Johnson (Solihull) , Dean Richards (Nuneaton). Make it only 2 games, so series can be a draw. 1 game in the north 1 in the south. Alternate which game is first each year. Series tie means trophy retained. Then all the music and stuff is north or south centric depending on where the game is. Plus it’s only 2 weeks to find space for. 3 games of this intensity you’d need a month.
Premiership is gash. Went saints v sale last weekend & got neck ache before I fell asleep. The amount of kicking was depressing with limited or no creativity in first half & second weren’t too much better. Can’t see sustaining the premiership & for England is bleak rugby ahead.
Go East v West instead of N v S. that way instead of Leicester, Sale and Newcastle representing the North and all the rest representing the south, you can have Exeter, Gloucester, Bath, Bristol and Sale (West) V Saracens, Harlequins, Northampton, Leicester and Newcastle (East).

@@jakeclough8090 If we used rugby grounds then we could expand them. We never will unless we use them. Welford Road for example was going to expand to a 30,000 capacity if it had World Cup matches in 2015 but because the organisers made the stupid decision to use the association football ground, the expansion never happened because they couldn't get the investment to do it even though they could fill 30,000 in a lot of matches now. Also association football grounds have different planning rules including whether you can bring alcohol into the stand and how long you can stay after the match which are not suitable for rugby supporters requirements.
@@barnigranero5882 but there’s no point expanding rugby grounds when they don’t guarantee filling the, every week. Leicester certainly don’t fill their stadium every week you can see gaps of empty seats. Don’t get me wrong they get over 20k nearly every game they are phenomenal fans but I’m not sure club rugby is quite ready for 30k stadiums which will be filled. Play them at football grounds and once you win new fans and clubs are getting higher attendances hopefully off the back of this, then expand the grounds. As of right now only bath, Quins and maybe Gloucester could expand and fill a bigger ground every week. And those football rules apply to only football games, not the grounds themselves. I went to the Saracens v harlequins showdown last march at the Tottenham stadium and you were allowed beers in the seats. There won’t be an issue with that for football grounds when rugby is played there

Which is something that needs to change. 15:00 on Saturdays only and Leicester will fill 30,000 and several other clubs could as well. Every time I have been to a rugby game at an association football ground, there have been restrictions. I stopped going if the game was not at a rugby ground. No matter how big the game was because of the restrictions.

Well I had a load of beers last season at the spurs game in view of the pitch, no restrictions.
