Average at best... Still very censored / controlled media narrative and the format is quite dated. Nowhere near as "intimate" as I think it was hyped to be... Of course I appreciate, creating hype / tension / drama around events that have already happened and now have little meaning is an almost impossible task. There wasn't any really "new" information for current rugby fans. We know about Genge, we know about Porter etc... But, OK I understand the goal is also to find new consumers, so basically bringing these existing stories in various outlets into one cohesive tale is simpler for new people and "soft" followers of the game. Of course, it's just the first series and so lots of room for improvement and following versions usually manage to improve as more people understand the effect and become more eager to get involved... What I did love is the difference between the European Teams. I can see why Crowley got sacked. Italian and French rugby don't limit their vocabulary to just effing and blinding every 3rd word, but have actually picked up a thesaurus to be able to express themselves in a more elegant manner. Lastly, having just watched Episode 5... I would be very curious about the diehards (including the GBR boys) who bemoan the continuous kicking in the game, and think that we need to steal Shaun Edwards back to GB rugby will make of his very clear comments in "Frenglish" during the team review... :D
"It's great to see rugby getting more attention through documentaries like the one being created for the Six Nations. However, let's not forget that South Africa led the way with Chasing the Sun, a powerful documentary that told the Springboks' incredible journey to winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup. It feels like South Africa doesn't always get the recognition it deserves for setting the standard in rugby storytelling. The achievements of African nations deserve to be celebrated and acknowledged on the global stage!"
0-10. Why oh why is rugby consistently alienating its fan base? This came out the ether. So we now have to pay TNT sport, Rugby pass AND Netflix. Just making this more and more an elitist sport

They should follow the Lions tour next year! Would be interesting to see how competitors work together and rivals bridge a gap... and its only Australia they can be a bit distracted :P
As a massive 6 Nations fan in Canada, I'm pinching myself that we are getting this show here. I can't wait to see it. I've been counting the days till it premieres. Thank-you for producing this!
Just finished the series. Holy shit. I cried after it was over. I didn’t want it to end. I deal with massive anxiety. After watching it I realized I’m not alone. Netflix with a huge win on this.
Great episode. I really enjoy the variety of episodes you guys and girls (thumbs up to the ladies on the good, the scaz and the rugby). How about an episode where you get a few open minded rugby fans to come on and discuss the upcoming six nations. I am South African, but come on Scotland!! Sadly won’t be invited, but I’m sure there are some great fans out there just want talk rugby and have a great point of view from a fans perspective.
Also surprised that the Springboks were never mentioned as an example of where the back stories are so profound - and how Chasing the Sun has opened up a huge new market
Yeah agree with you. "It's great to see rugby getting more attention through documentaries like the one being created for the Six Nations. Really surprised that no mention was made of Chasing the Sun - the docco made by MNet in South Africa about the guys involved in SA's 2019 World Cup Team. MNet were the real innovators. I'm surprised that this docco series has never appeared in Australia (or elsewhere as far as I know)
I'd imagine the netflix market share we have here is very small. UK, France and Italy have much more subscriptions. I dont think he meant to snub ireland there.
From the first episode you can see the Scots players thought they were superstars… wearing all the gear and living the ‘likey-likey-insta’ lifestyle… almost as bad as the Welsh when they went through the same thing. All hair and teeth and Louis Vuitton rain-jackets.
Hopefully this is the push our sport needs to rip power away from the amateur era obsessed clowns in blazers with prawn sandwiches. Bring new fans, more sponsorship and investment and players to the sport so it can grow into what it should be
I fear that this wont have the intended effect, it will draw eyes to the sport but if we seriously wanted to keep the new fans then we should have sorted out the current crisis in refereeing and improved the sport with simple rule changes.
Just saying, Netflix Its a good start, only wish fan welfare was as big as player welfare, the over complicated nature of rules in rugby is a turn off for many, non rugby viewers.😊 especially around TMO should have less input only on tries and only go back one play, get rid of it for every fkn bullshit thing, slows the game down, massively, and so what wrong calls refs call it, and apolgies after the game and probably doesnt get the big games,, no red or yellow cards during game ,players go on report and suffer penaties outside the game reviews outside of pressure calls during game, and any head knocks players offenders suffer penalties.
Just watched the first few episodes and sorry but it's shite. Massive RU supporters here, but the whole thing just fell flat. Could they have picked any more monosyllabic players than they did to feature? It doesn't 'make their stories come alive' as James Gay-Rees suggests, it just makes them come across as dull individuals in real life, who have some ability on the Rugby pitch. This could have been such a tremendous documentary series that really showcased Rugby to the non-Rugby playing world, and instead it was just a collection of inane talking to camera, reliving matches from a year ago, and if anything, it completely deflated our perceptions of teams and players we previously lauded. In terms of fly-on-the-wall content - what should have been motivating, passionate talks from coaches were as dull as ditchwater, and the only hint of any kind of passion was the boringly repetitive use of the 'f' word. I'd rate this series 3/10. Could have been great ... but for us at least, very disappointing.
South African humour is like a baseball bat to the balls. Sooth Efrica is also broke so Netflix won't care as your government kisses Putins ass as well, Ireland beat you remember then you robbed the French.
Yeah Europe should just stop playing rugby all together so SA can feel special. I swear SA fans have been so bitter all over RUclips over this documentary. Not everything has to be focused around you and your country, just be happy there is an opportunity for the sport to grow and then even more people will know how great SA rugby is. These crazy baseless narratives "European attempt at erasing southern hemisphere dominance" just makes you look mentally ill. Do you even care about the sport ? or is it just a way to feel proud about your country ?
SA have won two WCs and a lions series in the last 4 years, and chase the sun documentary was universally loved by fans around the world including the Europeans. Not to mention URC saving SA rugby from bankruptcy when NZ and RA walked away from them. None the less even with all the success they are full of resentment like no other people I've seen. No wonder the country is on its knees and anyone who wants a happy prosperous life, leaves to live abroad.
i agree, rugby is not a lifestyle its a culture which is built from the grassroots but is sadly dying. VCs, Netflix, anything or anyone to do with Formula One engaging with it is in my eyes more part of the problem than solution.
I agree it should play up to what it is. There's a lot of high quality people in rugby from all classes. It should celebrate it's links to education and rural areas rather than trying to appeal to the wimpy types who like watching primadonna soccer players pout and get a creepy mind rush from the voyeurism of discussing their wealth and private life's like its a feckin soap opera. Rugby should be anti current societal trends as a lot of people are being put off by the zillionaires in other sports and their behaviour.
For those who have watched the series... What are your thoughts?

That being said….the show should be sick 👍
This is the same for every sports documentary out there. Netflix is about £10 and plenty already have it.@@timwannell6477
so excited, Hope everyone shares it, a lot.

Great idea.. and its never nice to kick a man when down.. leave us suffering green and golds alone...we'll be back don't worry about that Haha
This one was for Payno... getting his geek on. Well done gents another great production. Thank you

Don't get too excited. Massive RU supporters here and we had to turn off after the first few episodes. Could have been great ... sadly wasn't.
has the potential to be huge for rugby, can't wait
Unfortunately it is anything but 'huge'. for rugby. It's as flat as a pancake.
Just finished the series. Holy shit. I cried after it was over. I didn’t want it to end. I deal with massive anxiety. After watching it I realized I’m not alone. Netflix with a huge win on this.
What an excellent episode, very eloquent and informative guy! Thanks guys
Been so looking forward to this Netflix show

He’s a fantastic host. Miss him, when he used to present rugby on sky
@@harrymcgeary2659yh, he was amazing during the 2013 & 2017 Lions series
'25 lions tour. Great series there, all the boys coming together.
Netflix audiences the north and sth hemispheres...
Assuming Australia can actually pull together a competitive team! 😮
Ed Bassmaster branching out I see
The lions tour will end up on Netflix
You need exposure on Talk Sport
would be so good if they followed the premiership over a season
Was thinking the same thing. This would be the next big step if they would. Like an All Or Nothing series Amazon did with the football.

Please stop trying to make rugby 'cool'. Its not necessary. Rugby's core qualities are the only thing that people need to know about it.
There’s clubs went bust - things need to change.
Could not disagree more.
