I've been researching a great deal about pronation, a skill that seems to be missed by most coaches. Rarely have I found someone who does a great job of instructing how to develop it. Great job!
This coach actually tells intuitively what is happening during contact between the ball and the string bed. Knowing the minute details quell doubts and misconceptions about the technique. Now one can swing to the ball, visualize the contact and feel confident doing so.
I am rebuilding my top spin serve based on your videos as mine was hit and miss with no real idea how to execute it properly. Making progress but I don’t hit the ball very hard and I often strain my arm with poor timing. I realise also I don’t fully pronate so will now work on developing that too. I can through a ball along way with my right arm so I should be able to develop a more consistent and powerful topspin serve. Incidentally I play all my other shots left handed as I am mostly left handed. At least my sore serving arm doesn’t affect my other shots! Thanks again for enabling me rebuild my game - enjoyable and satisfying experience. You could offer group lesson courses in Slovenia I know someone else who would be interested also.
I just recently went back to playing tennis after 20+ years -- there was no youtube or any instructional videos way back then. Watching your videos puts a sense (and science) to tennis. I also like the concept of maximizing and leveraging body mechanics to generate effortless power. I do have a trainer (still on my 6th session) but always go back to watching your videos. Good job, great video! Thank you and more power!
Thomas you do rock ! I started out as a 67 year old newbie about 4 weeks ago. After watching your video's over the past month I have advanced to a solid 3.0 tennis player. In addition, to your videos I have taken two tennis lessons. I have spent most of my time practicing and have delayed playing doubles with players my age and level. However, I have developed a forehand, backhand, volley, and can hit a flat serve, slice and working on the kick serve. I have been lucky to be able to drill with a 29 year old and I 35 year old 4.0 players. Your drills, have been excellent. For example, today I did the serve drill by starting at the service line and working my way back to the base line. Gosh, that is an excellent way to build confidence with your serve. That's my story for now. I have to go as I will be reviewing some of your video's tonight.
So after years of unsuccessful attempts, this is the first explanation that helps me understand the idea behind the top spin serve. I had hit quite a few topspin serves effortlessly during the practice session today, just by applying this technique and adapting the mindset. Thank you so much!
Superb video Tomaz. If I had seen this as a beginner it could have saved me years of floundering around trying to understand what exactly to be shooting for. Brilliant.
Im watching this video since 3 months, finally this week got it what means that..:) My serve speed reached 170-180 kmh with this video. You are really really the best master..:)
Amazing how clearly you explain the tips! Need to try everything on myself today but the idea sounds really promising! Another great thing is that in every your video I find something new for me! Thanks a lot!
You are correct again Coach.....awesome....this is exactly how i taught myself to get a good impact on my golf ball....using that 'knuckle' on the palm of my forefinger to compress the ball in relation to my clubhead's face. This is the most precise lesson on pronation I've ever heard in my years of teaching tennis (PTR '79) since I discovered it while filming Roscoe Tanner and Colin Dibley at 64 fps on 16mm in the early '70's.
I can surely say you built my serve. At 1st with the video on the shoulder over shoulder technique that opened me the first door in my mind. The 2nd door opened with this one. Great job coach! Thank you
Thanks so much for the tip! I open up the face of my racquet too early and I tried it the way you demonstrated it felt much more natural and my serve felt more 'snappy'. Can't wait to see your other tennis tips.
Really good video. I have been playing for years at a fairly high level but never mastered the topspin serve...despite instruction. Your drills are helpful and it takes a lot of repetition to develop a solid kick serve. Thanks.
Thanks for all the videos, they've been really helpful! I had this problem and I'm also dealing with hitting the ball from the side, but your videos will help me fix this. :)
I am a traveling coach and get into arguments all the time about pronation..Most amateurs and a lot of female touring pros do not have a concept of pronation They slap at the ball and never internally rotate the forearm at all or just partially.. I just want to compliment you on you explanation. joe
Hi thanks for that drill it is right were do have to trust and it is a good second serve. It also when a server has a come up on edge to late and end up just pushing the ball.
Thanks for the videos... When I watch the super slow motion of the slice serve, (for example see "Nadal Slice Serve" watch?v=3cBxB-pr2Sw) The ball is NOT brushing across the strings on the slice serve. The ball is hit in the middle of the racquet head and NOT near the edge. So I think what you are describing about imagining the ball pass through the middle of your hand and push with index finger is just a SENSATION we can try to feel but not physically what is actually happening. Correct?
Simple yet effective way of demonstrating the view point. Too many videos just jump to the swing and not the lead up to getting the idea. I continually having trouble with it because it strains the wrist.
Excellent point about opening the racket too soon. I know I do this. Is it the same principle on the flat and slice serves? Do you almost let the ball travel along the hand, but not as long?-Tom
Thanks you so much, .. i started to play tennis late in my life, being government tax officer i have no spare time or fixed time to play, but i managed to play between busy schedule, .. i started without guidance and some how i played nicely but i was satisfied with the shots and technics.... after five years of playing with wrong techniques, now i feel it is difficult to come out from wrong playing techniques.... when i started to watch your tubes, i really learn lot and trying to rectify the mistakes.... thanks you from deep of my heart .... please answer
I really enjoy your clear explanations. I also am practicing this particular exercise which is great but wondered what you would recommend as a progression from here please. I like the idea of breaking the serve down into several steps, so what should i do after having learnt to pronate pls? Thank you
Do you already have a nice backswing that brings the racket up easily? If not, you need to establish that and connect it with pronation. If yes, then you the next step is to focus on the balance on your left foot (for right-handers) and unwinding the body and letting the arm nicely swing across the body.
@@feeltennis Thank you for your reply. I don't have a good backswing yet. As soon as I try to introduce that before the pronation, I seem to forget everything and then don't pronate properly. Perhaps I need to get more used to pronation so that it becomes second nature. It's amazing just how much my serve as transformed just by nothing else other than pronation.
Then I suggest you practice "swing the bag" drill explained here: ruclips.net/video/cKeSQHjm4gM/видео.html Or any other classic serve swing drill / tool like 2 balls in a sock or Lisa Dodson's Serve Master or anything similar to give you a nice feel for the swing. That will help you build an effortless backswing and then combine it with pronation.
Nice explanation, but I have a question about pronation angle, I am noted in other drill Video, it requests an certain angle between racket handler and wrist, it means to contribute mote acceleration to speed of racket head, particular in first flat serve. It sounds reasonable but I feel little uncomfortable in my swing. Do you give some option?
Hi Tomaz, I experience that my racket will throw out (off my hand) when I serve, racket damage hardly. I feel worry about that, may I know why cause the racket off my hand? Thank you! /Ken Hui
Hello Coach, I'm a tennis beginner and would like to ask you one question. Is it correct when the ball meet the racket right at the center, there'd be no rotational force added, that is why one should wait until the ball pass the center (sweet spot) of the racket. The more it moves away from the center the better twisting force will be generated, however, it will hurt the wrist more and the ball won't travel that fast.
+Feel Tennis Instruction I just can't do this damn pronation the way you do it its so hard... you make it look extremely easy, real life just isn't the same :D. I can only get a partial pronation at best its so awkward to try to get a full pronation and results in bad mishits
Practice pronation drills slowly and regularly so that your arm gets used to it. It takes a while, don't force it, your arm can start hurting... ruclips.net/video/-9cIObcQyME/видео.html
I do pronate early and was wondering why I don’t go to a pancake serve since they end up being the same. Now I understand better but don’t get how to achieve consistency.
Doug King says hit the ball (for 1st serve) on the out side at 4/5 o clock and exit at 1 o clock.BTW he doesn't like the word ' HIT'that's my way of explaining it.
I feel serving is the most unnatural thing. The serve is fookin driving me crazy. Pronation sounds like something impossible. I manage to strike grat shots, very difficult ones as weel, but serving seems like an impossible thing. Can anyone help me?
From all tennis videos I have seen on youtube, this guy is the only one who knows what tennis technique is all about.
Piotr Szyba seriously , this guy is the real deal ...

I can not appreciate more on how effective your explanation is! Watch the video is more than practice blind in five years! Thank You

I never really thought about the timing of the pronation - that slowmo of you , really clarified it.
This is a simple yet excellent explanation! Thanks!
Your videos are always precise, concise and genuinely works. Thank you.
Wonderful explanation!!!! The hand demonstration really helps with the visual feeling of how to hit the ball. Thank you so much.
Best tip on youtube ever, after a couple of times trying immediately serve go in,still lot a work to be done but basic is there. Thanks,Hvala
Superb video Tomaz. If I had seen this as a beginner it could have saved me years of floundering around trying to understand what exactly to be shooting for. Brilliant.
Thanks for the tips. I've been trying to delay pronating to get more snap on my serve. This helps!

Excellent Video, once the rain stop I am going to try this and see if it can take my serve up a step. Great Explanation I am excited to try it out.
This is tremendously helpful. Thank you for explaining this!!
Whoever wants to start playing tennis or refresh tennis, must go through all these videos with attention. It helps improve your game.

💐Happy teacher's day sir🙏🙏🙏
Very well explained. It helped a lot.
Very very useful, I will try to correct my self
Definitely you are a GREAT COACH !!!
That is what Tomaz is demonstrating on his power serve videos, especially via the circular motion instruction.
Best explanation you can find out there!!! Thank you :)
Such a great tip !!

Thank you for this video
When I miss these that is the reason -- the ball is driven more than spun, by too direct a hit. This breaks the timing of contact down beautifully.
Sublime!! coach just sublime thanks very much.

Use your pinky and ring finger and your thumb to hold it really well, but you can lighten up the grip with the middle and index finger.
Thank you very much for your advise, Tomaz.
This is gteat expansion! I will try this out.

what racket does he have

Yeah, yeah, yeah...
Top spin serve has less pronation
