Woke up to find three big blisters in my new corner beads and I pulled out everything and started from scratch. Wish I had seen this before. So simple to fix rather than driving to home depot to buy more and then reinstall. What a life savor this guy is. His craft is admirable.

I put up a 34ft corner bead on a bulkhead using multiple 10ft pieces (following your other video) and noticed a few blisters after coating. I was worried I’d have to pull it off and start over. I have watched most, if not all, of your videos and I like this and similar content as it helped me recognize and correct a lot of bad joints before I primed and put 2 coats of $45/gal paint on my bedroom wall. Watching and listening to your explanations have changed the way I look at walls, which is a mixed blessing. I have new appreciation for smooth walls but now I can't unsee bad joints. It would generous to say my home's previous owner did mediocre work, so this has been the gift that keeps on giving. On the positive side all this bonus experience has given me the confidence to open my walls to run elecrical cables for better lighting and even put in a pocket door. Keep up the good work.
Once seen cannot be unseen. Sadly, sub-par work seems to be acceptable nowadays so you need to find a way of correcting it if it's your space, and keeping quiet if it isn't!

I'll never do drywall work if I don't have to but something about watching the mudding process is very therapeutic. You could seriously stream the process with or without sound on Twitch or RUclips and pull a regular crowd.

Had the same issue 2 days ago, came to the same conclusion. All my bubbles (7) were 3” or less so I skipped the fibre tape but did use 20 minute mud. Can only hope that works, I believe it will as 20 dries like cement.
Is regular mud okay for these repairs, or is quickset better, stronger? Maybe the answer is yes to both. I have the luxury of time and can wait for the mud to dry. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. Super helpful.

Ya know, if you don't prime a latex painted wall, the 45 min mud bubbles up and blows off the next day? Yeah, you did. I didn't. 2 days work flaked off with a putty knife. *Now* I follow your practices for priming - scuff, bonding primer, a bit of carpenter's glue. D'oh! Other painted surfaces I primed first are fine.
Have you ever used Fiba Fuse! I’m a painter finisher for PSU and we use it every day with awesome results! It works amazing when you set it with All Purpose (green lid) and top with 20min or Mid weight mud!
A couple of days ago I found a different way to fix corner bead blisters. I'm a newb. Complete diy'er, done a bit in the past when needed, but it's always years in between doing any. Only for my own places. Now doing an entire house for renovation. First room I did I got blisters under every piece of corner bead (paper with metal... same as vid). Sucked. Started fixing things like shown in the video. Then realized that the mud layer that I had put on, that brought the blisters on full display, dampened the previously dry mud layer below just enough so that I could dig into the mud gently and peal back the corner bead right from the edge of it. Then it was a matter of carefully packing the mud into/below the corner bead (was easy/quick enough once I got the hang of it). Smoothed it out... blisters gone and no cutting the corner bead or doing anything else wonky that would mess up the structure of the corner bead or require anything additional. Also thought that one of those big honkin syringes would be absolutely perfect for fixing blisters. Lift edge of corner bead where blister is using method above, fill big syringe with mud, squirt under the bead, flatten as normal.... voila. FYI, subsequent rooms have been blister free, also my blister fixes are perfect... not the least bit noticeable. Bought a inside corner roller, a lambs wool corner mud roller, and a manual hand flusher. Game changer combo for a newb like me.
Love your videos and the way you break down the tasks. However, I have a difficult situation that I've not seen you cover. Have you ever been forced to "make" a tool for extremely odd inside angles? I have a very obtuse angle between two windows in a tight bay and have heard the best way is to cut some rigid plastic to the desired shape for a trowel. Do you think you could make a short video on weird angles in tight places? Thanks!!
Dumb question - could you have put some superglue in that void? Or some hot glue? I'm doing a home renovation and it may sound silly, but I have found all kinds of applications for hot snot, like for filling in foundation voids around pipe holes before finish caulking. Easy to apply, and it does dry hard which is useful
I've used a lot of hot glue myself. My experience has been that it tends to suddenly detach a few months later. I found super glue to be a lot more reliable but only works with tight joints.
I haven't tried hot glue but even assuming it holds I predict it loses over joint compound in cost, suitable working time and sandability. Are you predicting advantages for hot glue over joint compound or are you just curious if it will work?

I have a 25 years old house that has the ceiling to wall corner tape separating in almost every room. What is going to be my best option to fix this problem. Do I need to rip out all the old tape or can I undercoat the existing tape and then feather out with new mud?
For a quick amateur fix you COULD caulk all the cracks But personally I would re-tape all the cracks with paper tape. If they cracked in the first place I'm going to guess they were originally done with mesh tape
How do you feel about cutting at the ends of the blister perpendicular to the tape. Lift the tape like a flap so you can add some wet mud behind the blister. Then close it up and run a knife over to squeeze out excess. I’m a DIY hack job of sorts and this works well for me. Not sure of it will last though. Thoughts?

The glue idea seems solid. I was thinking a mortar bag technique with a couple shims to hold it open during the squeeze. Good thing I'm a plumber and not a rocker/painter.
Hey flip you trowel around in your hand, hold it (backwards) it’ll be way more comfortable and more control plus you can at that point even use your fingers on the blade. Try it out let me know 😜 from a fellow Canadian renovation specialist 🍻
I thought the mesh tape, which has a sticky side, had to be applied on a dry surface and could therefore not be applied over a layer of wet mud like you would normally do with paper tape. Help anyone?
yea, that is mega annoying. i have tape in the inside corners. it was perfectly fine on the walls until I added the finish coat. suddenly random appearing blisters and large sections going off here and there... still don't know what I am doing so horribly wrong. (´△｀) All I can do is tearing off the tape there and fix it in-place somehow (that is, apply new tape on that spot).
are u sanding in between coats? Lots of time people do and are not making sure to completely remove dust particles before applying next coat. Secondly, you could be watering it down too much, mixing too much incorporating air bubbles, and humidity/moisture. Hope this helps
He has plenty of videos for that. I personally find that these are the most useful videos as it represents the reality of taping and mudding - knowing how to repair is just as valuable as knowing how to install.

Frost, mud off. The fastest, smoothest cleanest lines with the least bit of clumping. The finishing is with the icing fight.

Not done a lot of mudding, but fortunately never had to do correct that, still good to know...

Have you tried the new 5 min mud?? Its a game changer!! With a heat gun, literally dry 5 min after. Perfect for patches.
Do you ever add liquid soap to your mad to make it flow better. It also eliminates bubbles. What is your thought?

I have a room like this and also a few places where the edges weren't feathered very well. Any thoughts on how to make it look better?
Hey Daniel I would just put the mud on were it's not featherd. And take it all off and that usually feathers it into the drywall better.

@@georgebush6002 Just to fill the gap. Not as a top coat, just to add some structure under the tape.
Hot glue won't sand and finish (and take paint) the way the rest of the compound will.

When that happens, I inject glue into the void as far as it will go, then hot mud over with fibafuse

Nobody puts mud under metal Dura bead. It was probably crimped on. A couple screws would secure it.
I was thinking that small blister might be able to fix with injection needle and some glue.

Figured you would have to let all those layers dry one at a time.
He doesn't need to do that because he's using quickset mud, which cures via chemical reaction rather than just air drying.
