I have been in the same house from when it was built 23 years ago. I knew the drywall and paint work wasn’t great, but when I started trying to get it ready to repaint, I have spent weeks part time just trying to get nail/screw pops and cracks fixed, mud frame out of plumb walls, and ty to float out peaked drywall joints. I had two inside corners that when I fixed numerous nail and screw pops in them actually split the paper tape in two different areas a foot and a half to 2 feet long and left a gap,needing filled and the walls needing filled as much as 5/16” on each side to get them somewhat level. I sure wish you were available in my area. I would hire you in an instant to do the rest of our home. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge in an enjoyable manner!

Ive done a few smaller "california patch" repairs as you call them.. and lots of holes maybe the size of a toonie since the 2 months owning. All came out pretty good i must say. is it the same method when doing the overhead in the door way frame as the vertical side you just did? Load, Feather, Fill. Pass one and two. Love your work. Most workmen work on their own or in small groups and once something works they never change. You are bringing new insights to every body, including the clients. Now the client can appreciate good work and thank the tradesman as they pay the bill. The client can also respond to the bad tradesman. Great work for the industry.
redoing my kitchen. knocked down anon load bearing wall. removed the 7 ft drop ceiling,raised the ceiling, recessed lights and wiring. Now waiting on the county to see if I did the work right=pulling a permit. So I can't mud the sheet rock. will definitely use your tips when it comes time to mud! subscribing now also!

I don’t know if it’s another video, but what does finished and paint ready corner look like? Should the metal be exposed? Trying to finish up a closet and debating if I need to completely cover the corners or just paint over them
Get at least a light coat of the metal. Metal doesn’t absorb paint, but mud does and you’ll be able to see a difference when you paint over a transition instead of just painting over the mud. If you’re having trouble covering the metal corners, spray a little Kilz before painting and it’ll help blend the paint coverage
My work uses pure normal knives 12 for 2 coat and 10 for first coat and follow it’s perimeter however I got a lot of grearful tips just on how to work mud even I that I consider a really good taper can learn from an other artist truly genius feathering the inside corners to not spill I’ll certainly not run spilling my other side lol
I can't use the trowel because I haven't practiced as you said. But it's fun to have pigeons with a Taco Bell diet defecating on your uncovered floor 😂
Can you list what products you use on each coat. Is this correct: quick set for 1st coat, then 2nd coat is all purpose mud then finishing mud last? Do you have to use finishing mud or can the last coat be the all purpose? Thank you for the help.
When a vertical and a horizontal corner bead meet, what did you do to that corner? If was hard to tell from the video, but it looks like you put a piece of tape there? Love your videos, keep up the good work!!!
Your trowel has a “heel” and a “toe”. Knuckles up when applying whenever possible. Apply with upward strokes because gravity is your friend… same with taking off your hawk.
They just hold the open end of the handle on the other side from most people. He uses his small fingers to grip the handle shank. I do the same thing on a pull from the floor except I grip the shank with my thumb and first finger. Ben backhands the trowel like he learned from the 10 year old vids by that French guy. That's the reason he complains about his bad shoulder. You push mud not pull it backhanded. Do you curl a weight bar with your knuckles up? same principle.

I think that first doorway was corner bead up over a wood frame... seems unusual. Would love to see how that ultimately gets finished & trimmed.
That’s what I thought too! I originally thought maybe they shimmed the rough opening with plywood, but then saw the door was already in 🤔

Yup. If you want it to be super strong. I've done it lot's of times.

Why don't you use tape on the flange of the bead? Wouldn't the semi-sharp edge make it easier to create a crack at the end of the bead?
