    Today we proceed on a journey... creating classic curves for an upscale bookshelf. This alder media center will no longer hold a tv and, instead, be converted into a work of art. My customers want simple shelves but I SURPRISE them with a stunning new design!
    We will learn how to make bullnosed shelves, curved latticework, and custom panel moldings to complete this amazing project. Other important details that get covered are cutting curved frames, color matching stain, and how to install a complex project. Please join me. You wont regret it.

    I feel like it takes extra skill to add so much to an existing piece without being able to tell its not part of the original. Kudos!

    That is an amazing transformation of that piece, and I can tell you not only enjoy your craft, but that you are truly an artist. How did the customer react to it??

      Thank you, really. I have always done art in some form or fashion. They were extremely extremely happy. The curves were just right. The color was perfect.
      I appreciate your sub. Thanks

    I am already subscribed and somehow just saw this video for the first time. I am a custom woodworker myself and so I can tell truly how much you dedicated to making a work of art. It took not only the skill to make such a beautiful piece, but also an amazing eye to see the possibilities for this existing piece. Awesome awesome job and please keep showing us your work as it is inspiring.

    G' Day mate
    Greetings from Croatia
    Great job as always
    I have a question, your opinion and anyone who's reading this
    Im about to build a big huge church door
    And im thinking make it hollow for the weight sake, something like a house frame out of wood, then put some 2 +inch thick wooden panels around it.
    Stractualy is sound but im woried about condesation and creating some water inside etc., and get a problems later
    Thanks

    • @FortressFineWoodworks
      @FortressFineWoodworks  7 месяцев назад

      Greetings! Exterior doors are commonly solid core to avoid the problems you have mentioned. And by having a hollow core, you would need to leave space in between each outside board so that they can expand and contract individually and not cause warping. This will lead to water getting in. I recommend a solid core of very light wood.

    where did you buy the crown molding on the piece? or did you make it?

    • @FortressFineWoodworks
      @FortressFineWoodworks  Год назад

      This was an existing media center in a client's house that I added to and customized. I didn't do the crown, but it was multiple pieces of normal molding bought from a molding supply and stacked on eachother. This is called multi step crown.

    Whats something like that cost?

    • @FortressFineWoodworks
      @FortressFineWoodworks  2 года назад

      To add the curved lattice centerpiece and shelves was $3,300 (US) at the time of filming.
      To build the entire built-in with everything included it would cost $12,000 (US) or more.

      😮 that’s why I have recently purchased Dewalt table saw, miter saw and plane so I can completely renovate our kitchen, literally from the floor to ceiling. Wife wants shaker cabnts with a bit of flair on the rails and all the tools i’ve bought were less than the cost of the doors would have been to hire it out.

    This is insane - you've always had a knack for making stuff with your hands. I still remember seeing those old paintings at your folks place when we were in high school. I'm so glad you kept following that passion. The craftsmanship is quite clear in the final product. I would love to see a video of you doing an acoustic guitar or violin build when you get the chance to do one of those again!
