The only liquor cabinet that looks better empty than full. Beautiful work once again. Keep the vids coming please
Ha! We shall see what it looks like full....
Terminator 2 is indeed a fantastic movie. Oh nice piece too 😊
Thank you.
Who upon reading the title of this video clicks on it and then gives it a thumbs down? These videos are always entertaining and the work is exceptional. This chap is an artist.
Thank you very much. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
beautiful design, perfect execution!
Thank you.
Hi Working Man, What amazes me about fine handcrafted work, is your level of patience. Some joints are amazing. Fine joinery was borne out of non-existence of metal fasteners for many centuries. Speaking of "open time", we can't use Titebond ll in Arizona summers, it dries in seconds. Rush Rules. Recently listening to The Offspring. Movies...T1 and T2 both excellent entertainment, I worked in North Hollywood/Toluca Lake where much of the filming was done, so i recognized much of the background. (Surrounds Universal Studios).
They call me the Working Man. It does take patience, no question. Thats one of things I have learned over the years. It has taken me many projects to develop patience. Rush is great, The Offspring is pretty cool too. I grew up in Orange County, so I am somewhat familiar with the surroundings of the Terminator movies as well.
This is an incredible build.
Thank you very much.
Enjoyed watching your beautiful work.
Thank you.
It's a good day when Mike drops a video. Thanks Mike also for making your videos longer. I enjoy sitting down to enjoy your projects.
Thank you. When I watch videos I prefer the longer format as well.
moxon vise to help support the routing is a very good idea.
Thank you.
Unreal workmanship mate. Thanks for making these videos.
Thank you very much.
I enjoy how you periodically preview the finished piece throughout the video. Keep us knowing where you're headed and visualizing the project.
Thank you. That is something I tend to forget to film, but I think it helps people see the build come together better.
When people say "biscuits are for alignment" I don't think they are implying that they don't provide any strength, just that generally speaking when you use biscuits (making panels), they don't add any practical strength because glue is already very strong. The idea being that many newbies seem to think if you don't put some mechanical helpers inside the joint it won't be strong, so it's important to clarify that the purpose of biscuits in that case is just to help you align, not because you *need* biscuits for it to be strong. I agree with you they are plenty strong though
Thank you Chris. I think you are correct in general, but I have heard a few say they add no strength to a joint such as a face frame, which is of course hogwash.
@@MikeFarrington Absolutely agreed, they provide a pretty good amount of strength in a face-frame which is usually almost always end-grain-to-side-grain, where glue is notoriously its weakest. Thanks for the response!
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Your wood working skills are always mind boggling to me, but what I've been noticing is your creative cinematography is quickly catching up to your wood working... " The Beauty is in the Details " Thanks again for sharing
Thank you very much. I have been working on better camera angles. Its been a really fun new challenge.
Hi Mike,
I like your approach and I like your style. Well done.
Thank you.
You are one of those woodworkers I'll never get tired of watching. How meticulously you work, the detail you give and all the extra tips helps someone at my (low) level no end. We even get the usual music recommendations plus a film in this one.
Another superb video, thank you. I hope the family are all ok and doing well.
Thank you very much Mark. The family is doing great.
Man, that is beautiful!
Thank you kindly!
Workshop 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼mind ..blowing 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😘😘😘😘
Thanks a lot
Very good. Greatest respect. Thank You.
Thank you very much.
I hope you take this as a compliment, cause it's meant that way:
The cabinet reminds me of some of the casework I have seen in Mike Pekovich's furniture.
The proud dovetails, the inclusion of the Kumiko-style panel, the elegant panels combined with the sturdy feet.
Overall a very well balanced composition, the cabinet really looks amazing and the execution was top notch.
Loved the video.
Yes, this is similar to his work. I take that as a very high compliment. I absolutely adore Mike's work.
Really wonderful piece.
Thank you.
wow beautiful piece! Nicest wine cabinet I've seen. Wished it was in Walnut though!
Thank you.
Beautifully done sir!
Thank you very much.
Attention to detail and patience are the two best tools in the shop. You wield them perfectly. A beautiful piece.
Thank you Jim.
beautiful cabinet, no doubt there. That said, its not often you see a video of the project which took over 1 year to complete which is not a (seeded up) time lapse. You can see the the subject being made come together, but also , the carpenter, where his looks subtly changes too, (mind the offense,....it's a polite way of saying how we all age (gracefully in your case), but I caught theis on video, I am not sure why , maybee its because of the soothing voice explaining.....
hah just as soon as I said this you mae the comment about the "old dude with glasses..."
Thank you. Time stands still for no one.
My favorite shot is at 17:38, with the even bevels and gaps. Nicely executed.
Thank you.
very good effort pushing your skills, great cabinet Mike!
Thank you.
Very nice work. Congratulations!
Thank you.
This one of my all-time favorite pieces. The through-pins on the dovetailed top are a gorgeous detail. Thanks for the pro-tips, too. As an amateur, this stuff really helps.
Thank you very much. Happy to hear you like it.
Great video and beautiful cabinet.
Thank you.
Gorgeous.
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent job, looks good.
Thanks Tom.
looks like all this work is done in the monsoon season
Yup. That is my favorite kind of weather to film.
@@MikeFarrington i have a place a bit south of you in Santa Fe, love those great lightning storms. Your work has been an inspiration for me to step up my game.
@@davidewersphotography1013 Santa Fe is very nice. Thats great to hear.
Brilliant workmanship, it's refreshing to see some traditional joinery used extensively throughout a project in todays domino dominated world. A erasure to watch and keep up the great work!
Thank you Tom.
You Sir definitely deserve for at least 1mil subs for your craftsmanship skills and will to share with others some tips and tricks. Absolutely amazing. Keep up the great work👍☺
Thank you very much. Maybe one day I will get there.
Beautiful work 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Mike, I just got done watching your entire catalog of videos. I must say the one thing I hate about your channel is that you don't have more videos. Your work is impeccable.
It is an inspiration to watch your work technique because it reminds me that I should always slow down and take my time. The results always turn out better that way. Also, I laugh whenever you say "do you guys think that I should do a video on..." Because the answer is yes. Always do a video on that, whatever that is. Congratulations on all of your successes, keep up the GREAT work, and for the love of god, please make more videos! (There must be some RUclips algorithm that applies downvotes to videos. I don't understand why anyone would not like yours)
Thank you very much. I'll keep making as many videos as possible.
As always mike , great job ., so I have a customer who had a 150+ year old door that already had a mortised lock in it . I have an old house that I bought and am almost done remodeling it now but when I did I found a great antique mortised exterior door/lock set . So my customers door handle was all sorts of messed up . They had no lock cylinder in it , previous owners had put this cheap apartment lock. On it and another regular deadbolt lock from a modern lock set . So I showed her mi lock and she loved it and wanted me to fix the door and use my lock set for it , no problem easy 100 bucks on the lock, problem was her lock set mortised part I’d much longer than mine and the holes weren’t the same , which is fine also so I removed all of the old hardware and used the Dutchman method to cover all of the previous deadbolt holes and existing holes from her old set , mortised the spots I was using the Dutchman, got everything all glued back together and planed down and sanded , pi us d a filler block in the old mortise to make up the space to make mine work , a stalled the handle I sold her and everything looked great , last step was to ( I know ur going to be like WHAT ) bond-o all of the old nail holes and some of the rails were separated but solid so just fill all of those sand it out and paint , ( she is painting it , it’s mad of fir and painting would look soo much better , ain’t no bringing it back to lof unless she spent real money on it but she had a budget of 500 ) well I got the new lock I sold her all looking good shut the door , lol I accidentally had it on backwards lol and theses are all special holes drilled in the door where each component attached to the lock set ... so tomorrow it’s back to re mortise out the door where I already added the Dutchman and keep it moving . So I say that to say this . Shit happens lmao . Most people would have screamed or something but I felt silly and it’s no big deal it can be fixed , I normally didn’t have th patients for this but honestly from watching your vids it has slowed me down quite a bit . Because when you take your time , even if u make a mistake , the project will come out perfect . And there is no better feeling than overcoming an obstacle . Maybe I just needed to get that out . I feel better . Great vid , I feel like biscuits do add strength , your essentially fusing the wood together , how can’t it be stronger ? Why no kumiko , how did you come up with your verdict on not using it , it still came out sweet
Stephen, I have had my share of stupid mistakes. Nothing like building something too big to fit through the door....
@@MikeFarrington thanks man. Do you've much experience with using a shaper ? . Although I can't really remember any of your work that requires it. .. that I can remember.
@@Carpenters_Canvas I have a shaper, I used it much more in the past. They are neat tools, that can get a lot of work done fast.
Mike Farrington he mike , have you ever made a bed ? And I’m thinking about starting to make pieces to sell online for a side thing and to keep me busy . Do you ever make stuff that isn’t for anyone specifically and sell them ? If so what platform ?
@@Carpenters_Canvas I have made a few beds. I am not sure about online sales, and which sites are good. I have always sold my spec pieces and furniture pieces to existing customers. Build them a kitchen sell them a table, build them a wardrobe sell them a chest of drawers, etc.
Really a nice designed liquor cabinet. Keep the kids out of it when full of liquor...or stock it with milk and cookies.
Thank you, I like the cookies idea!
Like the statistic too 👌
Ha! Thats a good one.
Nice piece, nice video. I really like that the four year old can walk right up and help himself to the liquor...
Thank you. Makes it easier on me....
I always enjoy your videos. Very inspiring. My 7 year old daughter sometimes sits with me and she is full of questions that you seem to answer after she asks them... great timing. My 4 year old daughter sometimes watches and her favorite part is when your shop apprentice come on screen. She always says "hes so cute". Keep up the good work sir, Ill be watching.
Thank you Matt. That is really cool to hear your little ones watch, that totally put a smile on my face.
Fine carpentry,as well !!!
Indeed.
Well done.
Thank you.
A beautiful piece 👌👌
Thank you.
Awesome piece!
Thank you kindly!
Come for the woodworking and stay for the humor... another great one in the books
Thank you.
Beautiful
Thank you.
Looks great, watched T2 last week
Thank you. Its a great movie.
absolutely top notch work. the restraint and execution of perfect, subtle details is remarkable. i'm blown away that there are "thumbs down" votes. perhaps those who wished for an epoxy pour through the top were unhappy?
keep up the great work, Mike.
Thank you. Ha! You're right, this piece is missing epoxy.
Beautiful piece
Thank you very much.
Awesome work mike. Reminds me of something ishitani would build.
Thank you very much. Ishitani really builds nice stuff, to be compared to him is an honor.
Beautiful master work....👍
Thank you.
It looks, great man! Cool little project.
Thank you.
Never in my life did I think I'd enjoy woodworking vlogs. Amazing.
Thank you!
Great video. Beautiful piece!
Thank you Chris.
Awesome work, Mike!
Thank you Jason.
Fantastico trabajo
Thank you very much.
NICE WORK MIKE...
Thanks.
Most videos I just run on the side while doing work on my two monitor pc. And then there are some next level videos like the ones by Frank Howarth, Laura Kamps etc AND Mike Farrington where you just need to sit down in a quiet corner with your favourite drink and enjoy it from start to end. Thanks for the upload!
Oh, and yeah T2 is still a good movie and it has my fav CGI trick ever - the bad cop walking through the bars - I still remember the sensation I felt when watching... :)
Thank you for the kind words. I remember that scene as well. To be honest, the whole movie felt like that the first time I saw it.
Looks great.
Thank you.
Always a treat Mike. Im actually at work ( in the NICU) telling all my friends that " Mike used 56 dovetails..." and i get this face🤔. The most exact woodworker on RUclips for sure.
Thank you. I bet your coworkers were super stoked to hear that fun fact. Also, thank you for what you do, we spent some time in the NICU.... That takes a mentally strong person.
I totally agree on how you use the lammelo and those shelves are indeed plenty strong very cool piece I like the way you mounted the back of the cabinet
Thank you.
Beautiful project. Thanks for sharing with us. I always enjoy your videos. Your voice/commentary is so calming. At 72, every morning when I stop in the bathroom and look in the mirror, I ask myself "who is that old guy?"
Thank you. I'm starting to do the same thing, I have found avoiding the mirror helps.
Bifurcate? Is that the new word for resaw? I hope so, because I love it.
Its just a goofy word meaning to split in two.
@@MikeFarrington Thanks for increasing my vocabulary
Awesome build Mike!
Thank you.
Staggeringly beautiful work. The definition of fine furniture.
Thank you very much!
Very nice I love the case dovetails
Thank you very much.
Mike your stunning craftsmanship aside, I love all the little gems in your submissions such as the weather shots and of course The Shop Apprentice. I'm a fan of two wheel motorized conveyance thanks to Mr. Peart so now I'm an unapologetic weather geek. And my own shop apprentice is off to college in a few short months. My heart is heavy each time I ponder that thought. Spend time with and value those moments with your adorable son. Thanks as always for the quality content. Your work defines the very best of what RUclips can be.
Thank you for the kind words. I just picked up a new two wheeled conveyance myself. Hopefully I have time ride it this season. I couldn't imagine send my little guy off to college.
Wonderful news relative to your new toy. At the risk of sounding like an old BMW rider, it's all the gear all the time no matter the heat or hassle. I intend to extensively tour your lovely state one day. And yes, sadly you will turn around and he'll be off to college too.
I raced dirt bikes back in the day. I have thrown plenty of bikes at the scenery. From that experience I am an "all of the gear all of the time" type of guy. This is a great state to tour. If you are in the mountains, its hard to be on a bad ride.
Brilliant work. Really enjoyed the video. Nice one
Thank you.
Beautiful work man!
Thank you! Cheers!
Always awesome to hang out in the boardroom, more projects like this!
Thank you. I will try to include more fine woodworking projects in the future.
Hi Mike, love your work! In now way am I trying to tell you what to do, but a lot of people are using teflon strips to make their drawers glide much better, especially with weight. Maybe you didn't know ;)
Yup. That is a good trick. I do that from time to time. These drawer are small enough with minimal weight, so I probably won't on this one. A chest of drawers, I would.
"I decided to add some kumiko panels" Translation "I like to suffer". Amazing looking piece.
This is pretty accurate. Thank you.
Awesome project!!!
Thank you.
Excellent
Thanks.
Nice to see the 'process' behind the InstantGram pics - it's a stunner Mike!
Thank you very much.
It's awesome work !! Congrats
Thank you Eric.
Looks Great Mike!
Thanks Nate.
Hi Mike,
I just want to say that the range of your skills is really amazing to me. From built in/ modern furniture made of mdf to amazing hardwood pieces like this PLUS the amazing video quality and very well spoken tips&tricks that you are putting out. You do it all. Thank you Sir and greetings from Germany
Thank you very much. Keep watching and I'll keep posting.
good job
Thank you! Cheers!
fantastic.... only criticism is that you have to full open the doors to gain access to the side drawers.
I agree. I ended up going this way vs putting in some spacers because I liked that it requires the attention of the person using the cabinet.
Yes, a REALLY good job. Finally bought a trim router and will be sure to use it to clean out those pin spacings now
Thank you. It will clean up an speed up your dovetails.
great job, as always
I appreciate that
The end grain on the dovetail drawers looks so sharp, makes me think of a houndstooth suit jacket I used to own
Thank you. I agree the contrast is very nice.
little known fact - pirates with eye patches who were helmsmen on ships lost their jobs as they would always steer to port or starboard and get off course. Once they became bitter land lubbers after losing their careers, they made cabinets with dovetails (although they called them parrot tails). To show off their work and display resentment to their one legged former captains, they called their parrot tails, half blind parrot tails. Because the cabinets weren't selling, they changed the name to dovetails because customers were more familiar with those birds.
Great story.
If this is true, I'm going to tell this story to my grandchildren, and great grandchildren....
Yes! Almost like a new episode/season game of thrones with the difference that I couldn't care less about game of thrones. And liquor cabinet.... :) Please make it feature the Mafell :)
Ha! Thank you very much. I must admit I have never seen Game of Thrones. I'll use the Mafell in the next video.
loved this video Mike
Thank you Jonathan.
Your channel is unique in the fact that you are a true professional. Bringing us along to see how your daily projects for clients go. We appreciate you going through the hassle of filming these videos, but soon enough you'll be Wood Whisperer tier and it'll all be worth it.
Thank you very much. I hope you are right, time will tell.
Awesome Mike.
Thank you Mark.
You and Ishitani, man. I learn so much.
Thank you. Always nice to be mentioned in the same sentence as Ishitani.
Wow!!! Another fantastic build Mike!! I mean really fantastic!! Oh, and God only made so many perfect heads.... Then he put hair on the rest of them!!! Until the next one, hope all is well, and Dirty Jersey out!!!
Ha! I haven't heard that one before, but I will probably use it.
@@MikeFarrington please feel free too!! I heard it years ago and use it every chance I can!! Hope all is well bud.
Great build Sir!
Thanks!
I WANT ONE!
A salesman once told me, everything is for sale.
It always amazes me how much more professional and perfect your end results are compared to all the other stuff you see on youtube. Great job again!
Thank you very much for the kind words.
Agreed, T2 is a great movie that still holds up! Great build!
Sure does, thank you.
top job, looks great
Thank you.
Once Again I am in Awe !!! Another Beautiful work of Art. Thank you again. I’d sit back and watch a two hour movie of you making something and give it 5 Stars !!!
Thank you very much Steve.
Very nice dovetails. Frank Klausz would be proud.
Thank you. That is a pretty high compliment.
Very nice! I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you Matt.
