- First Time Watching X2: X-Men United is today's video!
Hey everyone! Join me today as I watch X2 for the first time ever! I was amazed with how they could make this one even better than the first one!
Stryker (Brian Cox), a villianous former Army commander, holds the key to Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) past and the future of the X-Men. This threat re-ignites the call for a mutant registration act. Stryker starts a full-out assault on Professor Xavier's (Patrick Stewart) mansion and school. After escaping his plastic cell, Magneto (Ian McKellen) proposes a partnership with Xavier and the X-Men to combat this new formidable enemy they both have in common.

I am glad that Stryker was made the main villain. His conscience allows him to revive personal grievances and grief on all the mutants of the Earth.
In the Comics, Stryker was based on and even looked like Fred Phelps and Billy Graham. They basically just took Professor Thorton from The Comics and slapped Stryker`s name and antimutant bigotry on him!
Me too.
The fight between Logan and the lady deathstrike is kind of sad because you can see once he injected her with the metal her eyes turned back to brown and she regained consciousness just before she died
15:20 That's Collosus, he was in Deadpool. His ability is he can turn his whole skin into metal
Bobby is an Omega Level mutant. His full potential isn’t freezing a dam, he can cause an Ice Age if he wanted
Much like the Raimi trilogy, the second one ups the ante. Our blue mutant is Nightcrawler, a massive fan favourite in the comics given his teleportation powers (the sound effect 'bamf' became a word because of it) and his kindness despite his demonic looking appearance.
Colonel Stryker as well is an incredibly effective villain too.
15:26 that's Colossus, well, the original one. They of course used a different actor and a more comic-accurate look for him in Deadpool
In the comics Rogue does actually have a handle on her powers, she is incredibly powerful because of it even managing to defeat Miss Marvel (the current Captain Marvel) and absorb her powers indefinitely
21:02 that is kinda the point of the line, the X-Men are an allegory to homophobia, xenophobia and racism, Charles and Erik are based off of the practices of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Ironically as well, years after this movie the comics wrote Iceman to come out as gay
30:33 there's a quiet tragedy to Lady Deathstrike's death too, you can see her eyes change to show that she comes out of her mind control, just as her body floods and hardens with Adamantium, like Logan she was an experiment and another of Stryker's victims
Sometimes, I forget that Lady Deathstrike was a thing in this film. Kinda wish that she had a bigger and memorable role.
I wish she was in that Logan movie instead if X24
Me too. But, I have to rewatch the X-men movies.
I think she was still very bad ass formidable in this role.
Her vs Laura. who you got?
@@donnyouttheway4091 Laura, no contest.
I’ve always been a huge fan of the X-Men. And I can’t stand people who just despises mutants, they make me sick.
Same here! I love X-Men too and those blind people needed to see that those so-called mutants were innocent people too just like them.
@@gibbs615amen to that.

I love Nightcrawler in this! My favorite version of him is in X-Men Evolution he is absolutely adorable in that animation! Beast is also pretty cool you might recognize his actors, older version and young version.
Me too. Including, the 1992 X-men TAS.

It's less "prison management fearing that Magneto may hurt Xavier" and more "prison management wanting to *avoid* having any bit of metal inside Magneto's cell."
Even if you're chummy--especially if you're chummy--with the prisoner, the personnel will require you to remove items that may be used by them to harm others or themselves. It's also the reason you can't bring phone chargers into a mental asylum when you pay their patient a visit: they may try to use it to commit suicide.
Even though this is one of the better xmen movies, it does have narrative issues and could have been improved on.
- The movie dragged on quite a bit with the Jason and his illusion scenes, which could have been used for something else
- The whole mystique trying to hook up with wolverine was completely pointless since it added literally nothing to the story
- They were building up the trio of Rogue, Iceman and Pyro for the first 2/3 of the movie but they barely contributed to the finale. Pyro only had an impact because he joined Magneto's side. Bobby and Rogue, on the other hand, were trying to work out their relationship which pretty much remained unresolved until the 3rd movie.
- Jean's sacrifice can be confusing to a lot of casual viewers since it is not conveyed welll as to why she chose to sacrifice herself. I think the movie should have spent more time depicting that while her powers are increasing, they are also becoming more dangerous to everyone around her (hence the need to protect everyone from her power)
- Logan barely spent any time with Jean to have any sort of attachment to her. Other than the initial attraction, his "love" for her that is brought up again later in the series is rather unconvincing.
- Nightcrawler had an amazing opening scene and is present throughout the movie but suddenly disappears at the end of the film, not really rounding off his character arc well. It doesn't really show if he just leaves the xmen or decides to join them officially, or how the whole alkali lake incident affected him in general.
Wolverine Defending the X mansion was my favorite berserker rage moment
One of my favorites of the films. Nightcrawler and Lady Deathstrike were so badass.
The stakes were raised hard in this. To the point that they had to have both Magneto and Mystique to join forces with the X-Men to save mutantkind.
By the way, the scene with Iceman showing his family that he was a mutant was Ian Mckellen's idea. Was basically a coming out kind of thing.
And the score is so good!
The comment about the Mom saying Have you tried not being a mutant is meant to be a Way of someone saying Have you tried NOT being gay. Funny because years later Bobby was Gay in one of the comics he was outed by Jean.
fun fact: the smoke generated by Nightcrawler when he teleports is a result of him passing through an alternate dimension (which has an atmosphere mainly comprised of smoke) before he reappears
the BAMF!
20:58 Cody finally understands the allegory that X-Men is lol
The reason why it's one of MY Fave X-Men Movies is because at that time, Nightcrawler was MY #1 Fave X-Man. Currently he's MY #2 Fave X-Man
😈☁🥰
Stryker's bodyguard is a mutant from Japan known as Lady Deathstrike (Yuriko Oyama). Her claws are even creepier in Marvel comics.
Also, Mystique and Nightcrawler are mother and son. Rogue was adopted by Mystique in most lore, making her the adopted sister to Nightcrawler.
Pity they never touched up on this much in the films.
Sorry dude but no movie is gonna be the comics and that's ok with me
@@missyzalgo6738 to be fair, I'm ok with certain changes. But the problem is that they changed way too much. Even the cartoons was more on point and closer to the comics.

That’s Colossus, the titanium mutant.
I always did love X-Men since the 90's animated series! The normal people really just needed to see that those so-called mutants were people too just like them. Anyway this second movie was cool and I always shipped Jean with Wolverine because they always sorta had more romantic chemistry than she did with Cyclops. She really needed to just dump Scott and be with Logan already.
17:20 I love that song! “Bye Bye Bye”
Song by NSYNC and released in 2000
I'm surprised to hear you say this one got a lot of negative reviews. I've always considered it the best of the trilogy. The next one, though...
Yea I mixed up the second one and the third one of negative reviews 😂
@@ItsTotallyCody Ha, that makes a lot more sense. 🤭
They don't make movies like these anymore
You would probably love x men the animated series from the early 90s. The storyline was fantastic.
This is my favorite out of the first trilogy, Nightcrawler is my favorite character. 😄
Sleepy doggo in the back is adorable 😍
Fun fact mystique is night crawlers mother
He’s a superhero and his power is teleportation
Great reaction. Seeing Scott go through loosing Jean is heartbreaking. I literally understand how he feels, because I’ve been going through it as well. I can’t wait for the next one Cody! 💛💙🖤👍🏻
Another controversial aspect of The Film is their somber and self-mutilating depiction of Nightcrawler who in The Comics despite his devilish appearance is one of the most carefree and light-hearted X-Men being a fan of Errol Flynn films and having a human girlfriend named Amanda Sefton.
If you look closely at the water you can see the bird shape there meaning the Phoenix is coming from the third movie cody
As I tell all the reactors, Jean sacrificed herself because she knew Logan and Scott would fight over her eventually and she knew Logan would kill Scott the man that Jean loves.
the reason that people had a problem with this movie was because it went astray from the actual comic story. the fact of where Jean Gray's power came from. beyond that fact it was a great movie but it wasn't Canon to the original story
36:04 you got to watch X-men the last stand.
Furthermore, Pyro was one of the most morally complicated mutants in The Comics(Also, he was an Aussie, not an American and was part of Mystique`s Brotherhood, not Magneto`s).They basically reduced him to a juvenile delinquent who turncoated because his ego was tickled and he didn`t wanna follow the X-Men`s rules as well as it bein` implied he had a broken home and envied Bobby and Marie as a result.
Bryan Singer used to be amazing
Nightcrawler is my favorite mutant
Young Colossus
Tranquilizers and sedatives don't work on hime they explain it in the movie
I love the way you are calling out the scene when the mom ask if He tried Not to be a mutant, because the director is gay and wanted to Make references to coming out scenes
Actually... that was Ian Mckellen's idea and they went with it.
You are gonna see cyclops and storm's character development but I'm not gonna say which movie 😉
I love your channel keep up the good work Cody btw i love the x men saga
I'd love to see your reaction to Tge Umbrella Zcademy, if you haven't already seen it. Maybe after Bing Bang Theory?
Wait till you watch the last stand
Bobby couldn't freeze all that water because it is too much too fast and too powerful.
Don’t understand the complaints either because I think this X-Men movie was better than the first one and wasn’t surpassed as the best X-Men movie until Deadpool came along (X-Men first class comes very close to being just as good, maybe even is equal to this one, but none of the others come close to; only Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and Logan are actually better) The opening attack on the White House is Oscar worthy in itself!
Mystique and Nightcrawler are mother and son
In the comics yes, however they did not make it canon in the movies
@@anthonyflinn3305 I 1st learned about it in the X-Men: Evolution
@@derykjames620 that was excellent series if I remember correctly from the comics nightcrawlers mother is mystique and his father is Azrael which they show Azrael in X-Men first Class he is the Red Demon looking guy with nightcrawlers similar power and also Rogue is actually nightcrawlers half-sister obviously they didn't really go into that stuff in the fox movies
Cody I think you read the reviews for the 3rd movie by accident instead. Most people have X2 as one of the best in the franchise. 85% on Rotten Tomatoes
Edit: Nevermind just watched the intro to the next video
The light from the radiation from magmeto's machine us what affected jean
React to Batman vs Dracula movie
Also ,,Mask Of The Phantasm’’
FUCK i love these movies
Have you seen or reacted to X-Men the last stand?
React to Scooby Doo meets courage the cowardly dog movie next please 🥺 Eustace has a rap song in it
Most of the reviews come from the fact that several of the characters and storyline introduced here are just either completely changed or have been oversimplified and condensed.
by that logic all comic book movies should be reviewed negatively like this
because almost no comic book movie nails the story 100% without changing something (yes, that includes mcu as well)
@@nikolaiyeoqty5261 I'm not saying I agree with the way of thinking I'm just answering the confusion on why the negative ratings are there
You need to cut off any "friend" who told you to watch Multiverse of Madness ... a thoroughly TERRIBLE movie.
It actually wasn’t terrible but okay
From what I remember, the problem people have with this trilogy was that they snuck in the Phoenix Storyline from the comic books. The Phoenix storyline is massive, I think it includes Avengers, Fantastic4, and obviously X-Men. To do a proper Phoenix storyline they would need at least 10 or 20 movies like MCU did with Thanos as the main antagonist. If they had just stuck with the main story of a war brewing between mutants and humans it would've been better. But the Studio or the Director, I forgot which one heavily intervened on the Last Stand. This is from what I remember when this movie came out.
The closet they ever got in the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix sagas was in X-Men: The Animated Series.
But when The Last Stand came out, they changed the story. Which pissed most people off.
20:28 "That's not a thing, That's like asking somebody to try not to be gay." Sir Ian McKellen worked with the screenwriters to closely model this scene on the real experiences gay teens have coming out to their parents. Even though it's very much not a thing, that hasn't stopped countless parents from trying to ask for it anyway.
@ You can change your sexual behavior because of religion but you can`t change who you`re literally physically attracted to, that`s what he means!Ex-gay ministries, conversion therapy and ABA are bullshit, more than that they are literal child abuse because the parents can`t accept their kid bein` different than them in any way, quite frankly if you`re the kind of parent who expects your kid to be exactly like you you should not have kids at all!
😂😂😂 you can think that all you want buddy. I did the same and was miserable for 6 years but I’m still gay
@ dude it’s cuz you let people who think they know true meaning of religion shove it down your throat and make you think you were wrong for being who you are but I digress.
@@ItsTotallyCody Same. I`m pan and an Aspie an` fer the longest time I hung out around NTs and far-right types who shamed me for who I am an` for bein` tolerant of certain groups they refused ta be tolerant of.
"Pyro just joined the evil side, why would he do that" Simple, he has a superiority complex. The scene at the beginning and the scene at the house shows that he thinks he can do whatever he wants just because he has powers, and Magneto fed his ego by telling him he's a god.
The fact that you don’t understand that asking questions to a movie I’ve never seen before is totally normal shows that you don’t know how first time watches are. Thanks for watching
Annoyingly the xmen movies take out one one of the best family connections for multiple.
SPOILERS FOR COMICS AND ORIGINAL ANIMATED TV SHOW
Nightcrawler(kurt wagner) is the biological son of mystique who abandoned him, she later raised rogue as her adopted child leading to rogue getting her other abilities(not acknowledged in these films) meaning rogue and nightcrawker are essentially siblings

The big guy who's body looked like armor plating suddenly covered him - his mutant name is Colossus.
Awww man words cannot even begin to describe how excited I am for you to watch the prequels but mostly Days Of Future Past! It's the best film in the Xmen series, I almost guarantee you will laugh your butt.
Yeah adamantium can be super heated into liquid but it instantly becomes solid again if not kept at a certain temperature. That’s what the that little water tank was for, the water was used to make the adamantium cool off slower so that it could bond to the skeletal system
After the X-men series you gotta check out the Wolverine movies!!!!
29:09 Behold, Lady Deathstrike
Holy shit you got this out fast. Good on you brother 🙂
The buff guy with "diamond" skin is Colossus, but not Deadpool's version. I feel bad for the actor though, he almost had no lines. If you combined his lines in X2, Last Stand & Days of Future Past it won't even reach a paragraph.
He even played a mute in a movie about 3 brothers.

Cody really doesn’t know a lot about marvel, does he😂
Please react to The Owl House
can someone explain how magneto isn't affected to Charles powers but logan is he literally has a metal that's indestructible and it covers his bones which also block his mind so how is he affected?
Magneto's helmet was specifically designed to shield the wearer from telepathy. Wolverine's adamantium skeleton wasn't designed for such a purpose. It's just a coating of his bones to protect them from breaking.
In the comics, Magento also possessed the ability to resist telepathy. In the films, they changed it to being his helmet. Which Xavier already explained in the first film. He also explained that he helped Cerebro. So, he pretty much knew what to do about that. Which is why Mystique was sent there to stop Xavier. In the case of Wolverine, he is not truly immune to telepathy. Especially on the scale that was happening in the film. To make matters worse, it would had killed not just him but everyone else if it went on way too long.
Nightcrawler
I dont think Kevin Feige would handle the MCU Xmen the way Fox did theirs. He'll import and ruin it with too much comedy and too many Avengers cameos
