This modern Planet of the Apes Trilogy is, in my opinion, one of the coolest achievements in cinematic history. Not just because they are just fantastic films but also because the interaction with animal and human, and the emotion they expressed between the two species is just mind blowing to me. Having a war between Apes and Humans and NOT making it stupid was a big achievement imo
I love these films as much as the next sensible person, but I think 'coolest achievement in cinematic history' might be a step too far.
@@mattyoung7415 i did not say the coolest my man
@@themiIes Ok, if you want to be really picky, even 'one of the coolest' is still probably a step too far.
@@mattyoung7415 disagree, it's not picky to say it's one of the coolest, everyone's bar is different, I find the set pieces and story to be pretty cool, thereby, it is one of the coolest for myself also, for you it might just be fine, good, awesome, or a separate tier altogether, either way, it's a crazy achievement, one of the first really almost photorealistic cg uses
@@mattyoung7415 see thats why I also added "In my opinion" :) It's totally fine if you disagree.
I love that they went for it and made Ceasar the protagonist, despite not having the ability to speak at all. It's all on the filmmakers and Andy Serkis' performance to let us know what he's thinking at any moment, and it's done masterfully
And that he actually grows into a leader, as foreshadowed by his name: Caesar.
@@lordmortarius538 His name hints to the future as well.
Andy Serkis is awesome
This is one of my favorite film trilogies ever. It's seriously underrated
^^
Same
Very underrated, never dips in quality too
It face plants in the 3rd movie. 3rd movie was such a disappointment and it's not because a war didn't happen even though it's titled war of the planets of the apes. It's just a really bad paced movie
*criminally underrated
*A very ironic fact: in Spider-Man (2002), James Franco was originally considered to be Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but Tobey Maguire got the role. In this Planet of the Apes movie, originally Tobey Maguire was considered for Will's pale, but James Franco ended up getting the role. James got revenge on Bully Maguire!*
Whatttt I didn’t know Tobey was considered that’s wild
I don't think I can live in a society where James Franco was Spider-Man
:Franco post-kiss upside down: strawberries
I think both ended up getting the perfect roles
@@bobbobbeth7542 yeah and it would've ruined No Way Home, due to what James Franco did irl.
The pre-show of this video is probably the most tense I've ever been watching any of your content lol. The look Jen threw Holden...
7:40
Holden: “here Boston have some popcorn”
Also Holden: “choke on it”
😂😂😂
Jen: I love dark and gritty.
Holden: *Makes a dark joke*
Jen: HOLDEN THOMAS HARDMAN!!!
In reality, your guys’s back and forth when you make jokes is funny as hell 😂🤘🏻
Well, mainly dirty jokes.
But sometimes she'll say it when holden makes a joke about something tragic like Natasha dying
do we all have his full name engraved in our brain or is it just me
@@Ryan-kl9pg nope. It's in our brains forever.
I like many people consider Dawn of the Planet of the apes to be the best one out of the trilogy, but Rise of the planet of the apes is the film I find the most fun to rewatch.
My favorite scenes have to be when the apes wake up after being given the Gen-z virus by Caesar and how they wake up with a new sense of awareness. My other favorite moment is when Caesar speaks for the first time by saying "NO!"
this one'd definitely more fun than the sequels
This new Planet of the Apes trilogy is definitely one of the best trilogies to ever be put to film. It’s incredible and masterful with how they do the CGI
caesar has the best character development for a cg character ever. to think he was being walked around the woods on a collar, to leading an entire ape colony fighting against the last remaining surviving groups of humans left on earth. it couldn't possibly get any better than that.
Jen: *ranting about Holden making her watch movies where animals brutally die*
Holden: *peacefully eating popcorn* "Yeah."
Rise is a great start to this trilogy, but it’s pretty much universally agreed the next two movies blow this one out of the water. Dawn is my favorite of the three. Brilliant storytelling and filmmaking. A true achievement.
Really? I liked 1 and 2 better. I’m not even entirely sure why. Maybe it’s just because of the hype and expectations for the third that built off the first two
Rise is the only one in this trilogy that I liked at all, didnt understand the hype for the sequels
@@andyrobin7196 what did you not like about Dawn?
I like all of them, but Rise is my favourite.
I couldn’t even watch 5 minutes of the other 2 films
This is how you reboot a franchise, go in an original direction rather than making a shot for shot remake
I’d love for Jen to see the behind the scenes on these film. It’s such a cool thing to see the advancements made in motion capture, through these movies. Plus, seeing the incredible work the actors behind the apes put in, to inform the graphic artists, is outstanding. Shame on the Oscars and Academy for not recognizing their work and performances as “acting.”
5:07 OMG ! I laugh so loud. I was drinking and I almost spit out the whole thing. The way Jen is relieved before realizing what Holden said is so genuine. That's a priceless moment! 😂🤣😂
I love how Jen smiles when people get killed but get emotional when CGI animals get hurt 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Love y'all videos don't stop
For real!!!
Honestly, I don't know who Jen would pick if she could only save Holden or some random animal...
She will not survive War.....
@@bkdmode Holden or Falcon
In all seriousness, I think a big reason that some people get so emotional about animal deaths and not human ones is because of how desensitized our culture is to human violence. I mean, just take a look at the MCU, where people are dying left and right in the background without any acknowledgement, or the video game industry, where 90% of games literally require murder as a game mechanic in order for the game to function. People just don't tend to actually think about the implications of violence and death because it's played down so much and so oversaturated in the media.
This is one of the best trilogies to exist. I love how it started as a reboot, and transitioned into a prequel by the third movie.
this trilogy is absolutely not a prequel to the original series
idk why that misconception is so common, but theyre really completely incompatible.
@@TooDarnEasy It's both really, it's like a soft prequal. Some things don't match up but clearly the intent is that it's like another version of the same thing happening just we're seeing the start of it and not the result. Multiverse baby ^^
@@Wolfer1OOO yes its another version of the same thing as before, but that doesnt make it a multiverse. it's unrelated. you have seen the start of it before, it's called Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
@@Wolfer1OOO i dont think it can be considered a soft prequel even. for a couple reasons. in Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Cornelius said the first ape to talk and start the uprising was named Aldo. But since Zira and Cornelius went back in time and had an intelligent child, they changed the past and it ended up being Caesar to start the uprising, which is seen in Conquest. The whole recent trilogy is basically Conquest and Battle but drawn out
@@TooDarnEasy you seem to have completely missed the point of multiverse ^^ it just means the same overall plot has happened but with slight differences. The end game is clearly the same, it's just the details of the how that are different.
22:55 .....I remember watching this movie at the cinema when it came out, and the scene where Cesar screams "NOOOO", the whole room gasped at the same time...... That's when you know for sure the movie is great.....
The James Franco comment killed me
Seriously hahaha so funny
but he was not violent though
@@user-lj6hu9cn8k It was a joke though
Such a amazing trilogy! Dawn & War has still the best CGI I've ever seen, its crazy how good at it they got from Rise to War (and Rise is still very very good)
Holden you should show Jen the "demo" they released of Andy Serkis talking slowly transition into Caesar to really show of much of Andy's performance there is behind all that CGI. It's up here on youtube.
Wedding Officiant: Do you take Jen to be your lawfully wedded wife?
Holden: Who's to say?
One of my favorite moments in Cinema is Cesar saying No. When hearing it for the 1st time u actually feel a bit shocked that a Monkey/Ape just spoke, but everytime I hear him say it, I get chills
Same! I think I literally gasped when I heard it!
*Even outside of Harry Potter, our beloved and hated Draco Malfoy is a cruel guy to animals.*
This is my favourite trilogy. All three movies carry on the same level of entertainment and emotions.
Arguably one of the best trilogy’s I’ve ever seen. So glad you got Jen watching it.
"I was looking through some old profiles and they look uh...... similar"
.....
She was so focused on the her dog she missed the entire turning point of the movie.. when Ceasars realized he had a leash like the dog in the movie
It’s Holden’s ability to keep a straight face every time he says “….who’s to say sweetie” for me🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just love that this trilogy was made by the same person that also made the Batman. Such a great director
The last 2 atleast.... Rupert Wyatt did Rise.
Glad to see you guys going through this series. I grew up watching the original Planet of the Apes series from the ‘60s and ‘70s, and the new trilogy gave me absolutely everything I wanted. It was a brilliant way to pay tribute to the original films (even the lesser ones), but also tell its own original story.
The neighbor, David Hewlett, is one of my favorite actors.
He's one of the main characters on Stargate Atlantis, where he plays a dorky mad scientist who's both sheepish and full of himself. Great character.
In real life he as an real person is SUPER dorky. Like he salvaged a ton of the Stargate Universe sets.
Jen: I cannot watch anymore animals being slaughtered.
Holden: Let me fetch Rush Hour real quick...
What animals get slaughtered in rush hour?
@@_Dunk none... thats the point
Loving the videos and content, man. You’re one of the few you tubers I check every couple days to see what they’re up to. Keep it up!
Hahaha holden u got me with thats james franco joke. Laughed so F,ing hard
So excited you are doing this trilogy! I love this trilogy. Such a good story arch and nicely paced.
When I 1st saw this movie I was completely blown away, wait, I saw the subsequent sequels in theaters explode away by those too
oh man I already know Jen is going to be an emotional wreck watching this trilogy lol.
If she doesn't cry during the 3rd one I'll be shocked. It's so depressing but so well done
I rarely ever comment on videos but I just realized that this has to be my favorite movie/tv show reaction channel! There are so many these days but Holden and Jen are consistently putting out reactions to the same kind of movies that I like to watch
I’m so happy that you’re finally watching these movies. I love these movies and I personally see these new planet of the apes movies as one of the best movie trilogies of all time.
Yes!!
There's a clever Easter egg, where it shows that the ship ICARUS, from the original film, on it's way to Mars, having disappeared without a trace
“I can’t take any more animal massacres”
Oh boy she’s gonna LOVE this trilogy
I mean all are hard for animal lovers. But War is probably going to be the hardest. Although I hope Jen realizes these movies, all of the Planet of the Apes movies truly encapsulate broader things than what's shown on the surface (I.e. racism, prejudice, being better than the people who show you hate), because it makes the movies much better if you do I think.
@@CrazeeAdam really well put!!!
You guys reacting to the Planet of the Apes trilogy is like a dream come true! Thank you!
I have been WAITING for y’all to start this trilogy of films!!! Thank you 🥺🥺
Loved this episode! I love the POTA thrillogy!
Btw; where did Jen get her awesome sweater?!
I’ve been waiting for this for so long !
I haven't watch the video yet but I'm so hyped. I think that this is the best Movie trilogy ever and I have been wanting Holden and Jen to watch these movies for like a year now!
You guys should try and find a version with subtitles when the apes are signing. Understanding their conversations makes the whole trilogy better.
They have them, they watched the bluray. He probly downloaded the movie off a torrent site to edit into the actual video, as those don't have the subtitles hard coded into the video file.
this trilogy is golden. Matt reeves filmed the last 2 movies, and they were phenomenal! still got to see his batman film.
Oh God what an incredible trilogy of films to go through. Jen will love these, they get really dark.
That “Harambe” reference will always have a place in my heart. Im from brownsville, tx where harambe was born and raised. They took him away to cincinatti and he was dead. Everyone here adored him, we even have a stone in the front of the zoo of him, RIP Harambe ❤️
Oh this is a very good trilogy I can’t wait to see the rest with you guys! 4 is apparently coming at some point too.
Holden i believe you can find the subtitles for the sign language online. Makes the ape scenes so much better
one of my fav film franchises in recent years. Glad you guys are reacting to it.
Yes!! I have been asking for the reaction of this trilogy for months!!
YEEEEESSSS thank you! Most underrated trilogy and one of the very best out there!
the dang movie hasn't even started yet and already I'm laugh crying!
Those looks of "I know something you don't know...": Priceless.
Wow this is great . Yall just made my night thank you from Canada 😁
Omg yes, I've been waiting for you guys to watch my favorite trilogy 😍
YES YES YES FINALLY!!!!
I'VE BEEN REQUESTING THIS FOR SO LONGGGGG!
This series is so amazing probably one of my favorite trilogies.
Man, I recently started watching the planet of the apes movies and now I'm noticing some people are starting to react to these movies. I'm so glad
Yeah same, my sister and I just watched these 2. Kinda a spooky coincidence that so many channels have reacted to these recently and we watched them recently too, 😆
I remember this fight between Caesar and Malfoy the first time. The theaters went on cheering in the 2011 release. But when the moment Caesar said "NO!", the entire theater went dead silent. What an amazing moment!
The long pause after Holden said “I love these dogs” just says more than he actually does 😂
Another reference to the 60s version, was the newspaper headline about the crew Lost in space.
Another great trilogy to add to the collection
Holden the special effects has become so realistic that the way Peter Jackson has perfected it by getting Andy Serkis so realistic is amazing that sometimes you forget it’s cc. Just amazing this is Weta at their finest moment. You forget he’s not an ape. Really well done. Omg
I’ve been waiting for soooo long for this. This is my favorite movie series of all time
Some more trivia regarding the character Tom Felton played: The first and last name of his character were the last names of two of the astronauts in the 1968 film, Dodge and Landon( Charlton Heston was Taylor). The 1968 film was released three years before I was born and one of my earliest memories is watching the original on TV in the 1970's, as well as the subsequent films in the series. I pretty much grew up watching those films and it was a real treat to watch this new trilogy. I love the progression of Caesar over the three films and how Andy Serkis really brought him to life. Makes me want to pull them off my shelf and watch them again.
omg i dont know if u remember but way back before you started watching the mcu with matt, i commented saying you should watch these movies and you replied saying you loved them. So glad to see you watching them.
Adore you Jenn! Loved the Jurassic Park reference, so I will give you this advice, Hold onto your butts. You guys rock and congratulations!!!!!!
4:20 The nervous "we'll see"/foreshadowing chuckle gets me every time. Every. Time. lol
This trilogy is very underrated. Let's go.
One of my favorite trilogies if not my favorite
This trilogy is a million times better then the dark knight trilogy. Yes i said that. Can't wait for dawn and war. 1:15 yes the mid 60s to the 70s a total 5 movies
thats a little much lol. but yes it is a really good series, can't wait to see dawn
I’m so excited for you guys to check out the other two considering Matt reeves directs them. This is one of my absolute favorite trilogies of all time.
I love the mind games Holden always plays with Jenn. Its hilarious
I was hoping you'd watch this trilogy, It's one of my favorites too Holden!
I love all The Planet Of The Apes movies. Yes, Even the 2001 one. Basically everyone involved has at some point has said a forth movie is possible. The way War For ends it could go anywhere. I’d be happy to see it
They are making another one based on this timeline.
@@xjoemallardx I believe it.
One of my fav series ever
The forest scenes were actually filmed in b.c. Canada. Near the lower mainland.
22:55 One of the most epic moments in cinema history, and her reaction is "oh yeah 😐".
So exited you guys are watching this, these movies are amazing and often underappreciated. Congrats on the nuptials btw you guys are so cute it's nauseating 😆 Very curious as to how Jen feels when she gets her wish in the second film
Funny note: The space ship that was lost was the one from the 1968 movie also -- just FYI its still a good one to watch
Great review you guys ! I've watched this movie a few times but I just caught that clip with the Icarus approaching Mars is a nod to Charlton Heston's spaceship from the original 👀👀👀
Watching it without subtitles is a different experience, but with it you can understand the apes when they communicate and that helps you understand the story even better. I suggest you guys watch the other 2 with subtitles. Other than that, love your content.
4:30 when Holden say I don’t know I died😂😂
Love the hoodie Jenn has.
These movies are so underrated, some of the best films of the 2000s/2010s
I'm an animal lover as well but I think it's easier to swallow knowing the apes will rise up lol. This franchise is amazing, we can see so much of ourselves in the apes as time goes on and Caesar battles to keep his society from mirroring our mistakes & cruelty. The 3rd installment was so tough for me to watch that I haven't seen it since it came out even though I want to. I only remember a couple of impactful scenes, but it left me with a feeling of "this is too real". Can't wait to see your reactions to the next 2!! I remember liking the version with Mark Wahlberg, but recently tried watching it & I couldn't get into it, maybe cause I'm just a big fan of this one & the look of the apes.
It’s an absolute masterpiece of a trilogy
7:43 Jena face after Holden says choke on it 😭😂
I love Holden trolling her, then being like, "Alright, ready?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I LOVE these movies! I've had this pic since the second one came out.
Holdens “aha” to when Jen is questioning him about animals dying is golden
YESSS! This trilogy is an absolute masterpiece!
I was literally thinking about wanting to watch this movie today. I’m so hype
Love the new thumbnail style
RUclips Recommends me cooking videos:
NOOOOOOOOOO
youtube recommends me a holden reaction
YYEESSSSSS
that movie was ahead of time movie , its been my favourite movie for a long time
That Franco joke was a good one!!!
And Jen, what do ya think these movies are gonna be like? They’re gonna go on picnics together?
Poor BOSTON!!!!😭
Holden is so mean to her!😂😂
