Hey guys! If you click the closed captions icon you'll have subtitles for the sign language during those scenes. Sorry it wasn't encoded into the video!
Great reaction guys... When are you going to react with THE BATMAN?
@@pthespidey5057 that old movie? Yesterday's news
@@pthespidey5057
No reason to react when they saw it in theaters. They saw it together. They gave their initial reactions and review. It would just be a retread for them which is a bit much for a 3 hr movie!
@Holden Hartman
I wish you would also react to the original 5 movies.
The apes weren't actually riding the horses. They were acting as if they were riding horses. Phenomenal acting
I understood that reference
A man of culture
That was a great scene
Oh man. Those were the days.
@@astonmartini6970 I don’t get that reference (please tell me)
This was the movie people went like: "Okay, we gotta REALLY pay attention to Matt Reeves." Because from Cloverfield, to an extent Let Me In, he's been making distinct bangers, now with The Batman, he's in a place wears operating at his peak.
He and James Mangold are probably two of the most underrated directors out there. Two of my favorites
Mathew Vaughn's Kingsman Series deserves some love IMHO
It brought a lot of Fun,silliness, wacky and Unique Villians and Henchmen and outrageous adventure to the Male Superspy Genre that's seemingly been taken out of the Bond Films in the modern era.
Plus the action scenes he directs are some the best I've seen outside of the John Wick films.
@@dominiqueodom3099
Unfortunately the sequel to the original Kingsman is terrible in every way…Not only does it add a insane plot device of bringing people back from the dead but also doesn’t expand in any meaningful way on the world building aka. The Statesman…
The prequel is already out but I will probably never watch it…
Interestingly enough ..the same thing happened to Kick-Ass…First film is really good but then the sequel takes such a huge steaming dumb on the original that you would lose interest all together about the franchise…
The Batman sucks
@@mikehunt69981 nope

-Holden: "It's called Twilight.... It's a book of my people"
-Maurice: "Koba was right"
Lmao
The Twilight books are actually pretty good I think. It's the movies that are bad and because of that it's tainted people's perception of the books sadly.
@@Karlach_Bro they’re literally just vampire erotica stop tryna glaze it💀
I love how Rocket, the ape that beat Ceaser's ass in the first film, became one of his most loyal followers.
Never underestimate the power of cookies!!
Ceaser is the best leader in any movie. Fair, strong, badass, intelligent.
Imagine if he was in MCU , i think he is worthy to left thor's hammer .
And Not Human. That's the biggest quality.
@@viveka619 that is if thor doesn't beat or kill him first, especially if he doesn't clearly know that ceasar isn't a killer unless it absolutely comes down to soldiers
After seeing these movies I’m torn between Caesar and Optimus Prime
I love how they do the apes speaking. Apes have very different vocal cords than humans and for an ape to speak like a human would be very difficult if not straight impossible. In these movies when they apes speak it sounds so strained and forceful, as if it takes massive effort so every word must be careful an d deliberate. Their speech often sounds like rough screams, and the more they practice the better they get with it.
Yk. Apes in this movie were enhance. That's why they can speak. But the virus had completely opposite effects to human.
It's my understanding that one reason apes can't speak like humans (cognitive faculties aside) is that they don't have voluntary control of their breathing. So the almost staccato rhythm of their speech, vocalizing only when they happen to be autonomically exhaling, makes perfect sense.
I miss the inexplicable transatlantic accents from the originals though, lol.
“Dawn” and “War” make this trilogy so satisfying. Fantastic films about otherwise corny premises. They’re so much more clever than many other “drama” films now. I must’ve seen Dawn at least five times in the theater. Shoutout to the score as well.
"War" is on my small list of films that have made me cry
Rise too
"corny premises".... kinda like a guy that dresses up as a bat to fight crime, a teenage boy who gets superhuman spider web power, a billionaire genius who creates an iron suit (it's not really iron) and flies around beating up all the armies of the universe. Corny like that?
Yep, if you do it right, it will work in a big way.
Ya, I don’t mind Rise but Dawn and War are masterpieces
My biggest regret is not having seen Dawn in theaters. I probably saw War in theaters like 3 times though. Amazing films that I was just a little late to the party for.
Rise - 9 out of 10
Dawn - 9.5 out of 10
War- 9 out of 10.
This series leaves me with the same warm feeling as the original LOTR trilogy. All feel like separate chapters and all rewatchable on their own. All 9 out of 10 or better
No lies frfr this trilogy was amazing.
Eh…war bout a 8…not as good as rise but still great
Originally the sequel wasn't even going to focus on Caesar, but Reeves had like 2 or 3 months before production to completely overhaul the script, since the previous director stepped away. Its crazy to think about when you realize how intricate the story is woven and how complex the characters are.
It’s just monkes bro lmao
@@joddo1991 not really
@@joddo1991 🤡say you don't understand film making without saying you don't understand film making
@@joddo1991 By that rational we shouldn't care about pretty much *_any_* characters in movies. After all, humans are just another species of ape. 🤷♂️

🤯 I’m Getting A Migraine
Malcolm slipping into the shadows and vanishing as a representation of humanity's fading is a constantly overlooked metaphor that always struck a chord with me.
Matt Reeves is a real talent, brings heart and soul to big budget films, and an incredible visual flair. The opening scene in this with the hunt is iconic, "cinematic" in the best way.
The CGI animals in this movie are probably the most detailed and breathtakingly convincing ones I've seen. I'm surprised this movie didn't win an Oscar for visual effects.
The 2nd or 3rd one has some of the worst CGI I've seen. The one with the bear fight I think. The models looked fine but the animation was terrible. There is one shot where the apes "walk" away they just move completely linearly off screen.
@@ravneiv what are you smoking lmao
This trilogy especially the 3rd one has arguably the best CGI creatures EVER.
@@haridaspalleeri6765 lol, so true. Even Marvel doesn't have CGI as good till date.
@@ravneiv what planet of the apes did you watch? The one from 1968🤭?
@@haridaspalleeri6765 that dude liked x-men apocalypse more than days of future past, not saying he has bad taste but it is very subjective.
The next movie is so so good, I can’t wait for u guys to get to that next
I think than the third movie is the less good from the trilogy while the second movie is the best for me
However the third movie is still great
The next one is a masterpiece
Please react on kgf chapter 1 🙏
The third movie is the worst one
Dude how was your comment 16 hours ago
Imo this is one of the best films of the 2010s and easily the best of the trilogy
This movie is truly a masterpiece. Koba and Caesar are such amazing characters and Matt Reeves is an amazing director.
Koba is one of my favourite villains ever.
You can totally understand why Koba was the way he was and why he hated humans so much.
@@Karlach_ Yeah. And Caesar being on a similar path in War was a really great choice.
APE FACTS: Koba is not a chimp, but a bonobo, our actual closest primate ancestor and in nature from a peaceful matriarchal species.
While chimps like Caesar have been witnessed waging wars, hunting for meat, and even killing baby gorillas in their territory, bonobos solve conflict with grooming and mating with other tribes.
Scientists theorize that they diverged from a common ancestor separated by a geographic formation that provided bonobos with plentiful food and chimpanzees with scarcity. So bonobos became peaceful and diplomatic while chimps became more aggressive.
This highlights the bigger issue of nature versus nurture. Koba's lifetime of torture and abuse made him warlike unlike we know of his species while Caesar's peaceful and loving upbringing allowed him to become sympathetic and patient.
"It's called Twilight. It's the book of my people." I don't know if you've ever watched Mystery Science Theater 3000 there Holdman, but that was a prime riff! I laughed and shot soda out my nose! Great reaction as always, you two!
This is one of the greatest trilogies of all time. The 2nd movie is my favourite of them... 2,3,1... Have you guys seen the Daniel Craig Bond movies? A reaction to those would be awesome. Great content as always.
Love Craig’s take on Bond, sooo cool
@@hankson8 I love James Bond but my favorite spy films are the Mission Impossible movies
@@Swampthing86 those are incredible
I am a big Tom Cruise fan
This is my favorite trilogy of all time. Caesar is my all time favorite movie hero. I’m so happy you guys are loving these films. I’m 27 and I grew up watching the older Apes films as well as the 70s series so the Apes franchise is very close to my heart. I’m so fascinated with Apes just in general. Love how interesting the class systems are of Chimp, orangutans, gorillas & bonobos. There is this docuseries on Netflix just titled ANIMAL. There is an Apes episode and it’s narrated by Caesar & King Kong himself, Andy Serkis. For more knowledge & info & just listening to Andy Serkis talk about apes, I highly recommend that episode. It’s wonderful
Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise was penned to direct the second movie, but he said that he wouldn't be able to make the film that he wanted to make, so he stepped down at the last minute. And then Matt Reeves came along and turned water into wine.
He is such an amazing director
His voice even sounds like Vince Gilligan's.
In the final fight between Ceasar and Koba, you can tell between who really deserves to be a leader.
When Dreyfus blew up the tower, Ceasar is actually trying to help his fellow Apes where as Koba is selfish, throwing his followers off to their deaths.
Toby Kebbell did the motion capture for Koba and he was amazing.
The moral and ethical dilemma's in this movie, along with the beautiful design and cinematography (not even to mention the masterful motion capture), really make it one of my favourite post-apocalyptic movies. It reminds me so much of the Last of Us in many different ways.
Holden’s “Twilight” commentary is elite 😂😂
New to your Podcast and really enjoying it. I am not sure if it has been mentioned before, but Maurice is named after Maurice Evans, the actor who played Dr. Zaius in the original Planet of the Apes movies
Podcast?
Not a podcast, just movie reactions
Ok, MOVIE REACTION... This going to be one of those huh? lol
@@BryanH63 I mean, a podcast is a very different thing, I was also confused by your comment that I missed a podcast he does ^^
This is the Dark Knight of this trilogy. This trilogy as a whole is masterpiece! Its so freaking good!
Apt analogy.
You guys worked so hard prepping all this content for your time off, and there’s no drop in quality. Hats off to you guys!
*Off-topic*
Matt Reeves' Batman was almost a masterpiece. Love this dude. So many things portrayed absolutely perfect.
Yeah, it was trash..
This is a 100% piece of art made from a genuine place of love. Watch the BTS, even the music is a great reference to the originals. I love the franchise but wow Dawn took it to an entire new level. Matt Reeves being passionate about making a movie/property basically certifies its quality. Great Series.
I was really REALLY bummed out today, and this video helped cheer me up. Thank you Jen and Holden, you just made my day
Hope that you’re feeling better now man✌🏾
@@eljhin1 thanks, i am now 😊
You two should watch the original five “planet of the apes” movies before you see “war of the planet of the apes” because there are allot of Easter eggs in the movie that you might miss out on!!!!
27:28 When Gary Oldman says that line, he was foreshadowing the events of War for the Planet of the Apes.
Jen constantly mentioning Fringe got me to watch the show, now I can join in her pointing out every character :)
I don't know why but I always wanted to see a Predator vs Planet of the Apes crossover. I feel like that would be epic lol
Oohhhhhhhhhhh
Definitely actually predators against the apes would be awesome
Because they would be able to fight the Predator on its territory (the trees), they would be able to match the Predator's strength and speed and despite the fact the Predator can camouflage itself (which doesn't even make it truly invisible), the apes would probably still be able to smell it.
The ape population would be slaughtered.
It would be a slaughter by the Predators for the much the same reasons they slaughter humans. Predators are bigger, stronger, smarter, have advanced tech and gear, and they live to fight and kill. Apes by nature are not fighters. They have pretty good offensive tools for fighting, but even in these movies you can see apes usually only fight if they have to. The only thing the apes would have going for them are their sheer numbers. They like to do everything in groups. And, in the prequel Planet of the Apes series, they like to do things in large semi-organized groups. But, it just wouldn't work well. Just because they are more ferocious, have better senses, and can act fearlessly doesn't mean they would prevail.
All that being said, the Predator race likes a good challenge. They would likely only use that really nice spear and their Wolverine-like claws for this fight. We've seen in numerous movies they only like to fight and kill if the prey has a sporting chance. So, they often level the playing field to make it interesting. Otherwise, a race with interstellar travel capabilities and weapons to match could wipe the planet clean with little problem.
While I liked the batman, I felt it was messy and drawn out, not quite nailing each of its themes like this and War. But this is in my opinion his most perfect film. Koba is an iconic villain. Love the new set-up you have those movie chairs look comfy.
100% agree!!
Yes and this is where Michael Giacchino comes in to take over as composer. He gives us two amazing and underrated scores in DAWN and WAR that are simply breathtaking
This is my fav of the 3. Loving the channel. Keep em coming.
This is one of my all time favourite movies I love it so much. I think you nailed it being very Shakespearean and also how well they handled the conflict between characters as well as internal conflict being pretty much perfect and feeling so natural. When this came out it was the best motion capture/cgi I'd ever seen and somehow they manage to still get better for the third movie.
One of my favorite sequels of all time. This movie confirmed to me that caesar is one of my favorite protagonists of all time.
If you're getting the original or all 5 originals, you need to react to them here too! If any, the first one with Heston!
I went down a long dark rabbit hole when you first kicked off the Rise of The Planet of the Apes..... I just couldn't get over how great they all looked and how well they were able to show Caesars emotions, really allowing me to connect to the character. I ended up rewatching the entire (new) series twice, then going into the special effects and how the motion capture helped with the new films, finally watching a documentary another RUclipsr did(StoryStreet if anyone is interested, I really can't recommend it enough) on how the movie came to be and Caesars arc
This one is my most favorite Apes movie in the trilogy. The story, the characters, and emotional depth were all amazing. One of the best movie experience I've watch in theaters.
I fu***ng love Caeser in this movie he's changed so damn much he now carries an authoritative figure and even exercises self control, when someone questions his motives and challenges him he puts that particular person in their place but he doesn't kill them
Yes.
He was much more mature. And stoic.
Only putting koba in his place is the very thing that will and would get anyone trying to play peacemaker killed in reality
Cant wait for you to react to the next movie, this is one of the best trilogies i have ever watched and probably my favourite one ever
Great movie and video. I would suggest, for the next movie, putting subtitles for the apes, maybe there were subtitles in the movie, but we could not see them, and it was hard to understand apes.

National Treasure. Its Nic Cage Season. You gotta do National Treasure.
I think you missed the newspaper headline in the first movie about a spaceship being lost in space, linking this series to the original movie with Charlton Heston.
It was mentioned in the first review when he points out the live broadcast of the ship taking off happening on the TV in a scene.
I went and rewatched 2 & 3 this weekend to prepare for these videos. Lol.
Let’s gooooooo I’ve been watching the movies before they post the vids to watch along with them
16:42
I was really expecting a “HOLDEN THOMAS HARDMAN” from Jen 😂
Holdens face when Jenn mentioned she wanted a baby ape was top quality content lol
Fun fact: Koba is a bonobo, which are usually the kindest of the great apes. Literally solving their problems with sex rather than fighting. So for Koba, a bonobo, to be the ape that betrays his own friend, and leads his own people into a slaughter and war, that just goes to show how deep his hatred for the humans goes. Bonobos are also the weakest of the great apes, so if he had fought Ceasar at his full strength, he would've lost very quickly.
The emotional depth that the VFX artists were able to preserve from the actors performances is astonishing.
So glad you guys glitched the vote and watched this trilogy. It's one of the greats! Wonderful accents btw Jen especially, just wow. Btw some ape species attack rival groups and are cannibalistic, fun fact for ya
This was the best trilogy from the last decade
Haha loved Jens intro! 😜😂😎🇬🇧
The actor you were talking about that is on Fringe, I know him in the role of Joe Toye in the HBO series Band Of Brothers.

One of my favorite trilogies… y’all should watch hacksaw ridge next !
Your dog's facial expressions are hilarious!
As i said in the previous video, Matt Reeves is the reason this trilogy went on to succeed when typically it would've failed. He OWNED these films.
I remember seeing this on my 14th birthday, not knowing what i was getting into and being blown away. Its one of my top 20 fav movies!!!
OMG the Twilight joke from Holden!! i died from laughter!! x)
"This is Twilight, it is the book of my people"
Also at 20:50 you are either Holden or Jen type of person x)
No wonder why I liked this movie so much, Matt Reeves directed it!
Was the moose thing a Vice-Versa shout out?? Recently watched that and it caught my eye! Mooses? Meese?😜😂
Such great writing when everyone's motives are so clear and they make sense.
This movie is a 10.
From beginning to end and that audio homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey at the start, fantastic!
This is one of those high tier movie when you finish watching, it feels so good
As a British person myself I give those accents a 2 out of 10 keep practising there is hope for a great accent congrats on the wedding love the videos xx
Thank you SO MUCH, Holden, for acknowledging the greatness that is Twilight! So few can appreciate the depth and importance of that American masterpiece. Some of those who read that renowned novel might say Captain Underpants is far and away a better book, but not those of us who understand Twilight's true vision. I applaud you, sir!
There's about 3 or 4 original films, all worth a watch.
Loved all the new ones too😜😎🇬🇧
5 actually.

Did you know Mutant Night crawler smith is in this . I appreciate you, Holden you do reaction before
p.s. Jen,, we love your accents, there are those of us who cant do accents either, so it's fun :).
The amazing thing about this movie is that the ape actors, in their mo-cap suits outplay all the human characters.
This movie is my favourite of the franchise its a very well made movie practically a masterpiece imo.
With Koba I understand why he was like he was but he was clearly suffering ptsd or some mental issue
Ceaser is such a great character I really like him
it seems everyone forgets there was a Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes from the early 2000s movie as well. Doesn't hold any place as this trilogy completely supersedes it.
This trip is one of my favourite trilogy’s ever
ONE DAY! That startled me!
Kivas not actually supposed to be dead they played his audio of Kona breathing and rising from the floor and the end of the movie to give hints that he may return but ultimately they decided not to bring him back but instead give us Proxima’s Cesar who is almost like a descendent of Kona
Ironically he is commissioner Gordon in the Batman begins trilogy, but he plays a different character
He was also the terrorist in Air Force One.
when the bear camed out the and you guys were screaming the dogs face whas like "uhh wha- i dont get it why you guys screaming..." 🤣🤣
Andy Serkis is the best actor I've never seen.
I feel like the apes communicating in sign language are supposed to have subtitles... I remember them having it when I saw the movie? Maybe I'm misremembering, or did you have subtitles that aren't showing here?
They do in the actual movie
You can turn on subtitles for the video now!
23:14 that subtle Bane quote from Dark Knight Rises
Real fact about Apes : Bonobos (Koba) are probably the most calm & non-aggressive type of great apes while Chimpanzees (Caesar) are the most aggressive & will attack people just at the drop of a hat
The film makers did a lot of research & had experts on the team which means they probably knew about this fact but still chose to make Koba a Bonobo & Caesar a Chimpanzee
This is a great way to imply that the way we treat others around us plays a significant role in whether someone will grow up filled with hatred & rage, or love & kindness
Or may be they just messed up while making Rise & chose to ignore these facts, but I like to believe that's not the case
Nature vs Nurture
Holden, I don't know if it's too late for the last movie but could you include the sign language subtitles in with the PIP of the movie? It's difficult to know what exactly you're reacting to sometimes without it.
I had some major dejavu at 21:25. I swear I've watched this before today.
Also, I never had any interest in watching these movies but I do enjoy y'alls reactions and discussions.
If it'll get you to watch it, Kirk Acevedo (from Fringe), also shows up in Agents of Shield.
I never watched War of the apes so i hope you guys react to it soon so i can watch it with you
Please turn the subtitles on for the sign language it takes the movie to another level
