What Atlas describes is not unique to wrestling at the time. I'm a black man who graduated from college in the late '80's and I've been stabbed in the back a lot by black colleagues who see other blacks as competition for promotions.
It was pretty common because minorities and women often see themselves competing for one spot. Back in the day there weren’t going to be many spots
Study 48 laws of power to see stuff like that before ir happens
Willie Lynch teachings.
It’s amaziuthat we can feel more threatened and insecure by the perceived strength and likability of someone who looks like us. It’s almost like believing all the negative things people say about people like you, except you’re the lone exception and must prove it until you’re OJ or Tiger
I myself, an African American can relate to our own stabbing us in the back instead of working together. It's a form of black-on-black crime or tribalism. Truth be told, that's why some of us are so messed up. What Tony talked about and what you have described about your past, I've dealt with the very same scenarios in the work place.
Those brothers from the 70's like Tony, rocky, and Butch Reed were in phenomenal shape💪🏼
yup,and guys like ivan putski looked like cartoons

Every time I watch these Boston Wrestling videos I have the same two thoughts, Tony Atlas is a great story teller, and the jerk interviewing him needs to shut up and stop interrupting him every time he's making a point.
My favorite Tony story is the story of him and Paul Orndorff getting into a fight because Paul didn't like him eating ribs in the car. He said Paul was very short fused in those days.
Rocky Johnson was just doing what he needed to do and take care of his family............and his girlfriend.
😂😂😂
Booooooooooooooo
Never depend on anyone for a ride to work.
Lol facts
It's different with wrestlers in the 80s & 70s. The money they were making, they better had been 4 deep in the car & hotel room. Lol
I knew a guy that used to work for the local auto company and went to work every day well into his 70's. He only retired bc his ride to work retired.
My grandma got a ride to work every day to a high school an was a janitor, she retired at 65 an died in 19 at 91,she was paid do you read me PAID,she had more that 100 thousand in her bank accounts so you can depend on what you want if you DEPEND on yourself THE most it won't matter what you don't have or do, just do YOU an the game will be good to YOU

Tony atlas has to be the most humble wrestler of all time

Hey Tony back 8n the early 80s you was with your son at a carnival right near Coop City in the Bronx. My buddy and I was in the glass house and I accidentally bumped into you and hit the floor. You helped me up. 30 seconds later my friend tells me "you know who that was? That was Tony Atlas Mr.U.S.A. Man I crashed into so many mirrors trying to get out. When we got out you and your son was heading to the double ferris wheel. I didn't approach you but that memory will live with me forever. You was my favorite wrestler. Glad to see your doing well.
This is why the New Day, the Hurt Business and so many other Black groups mean so much to us cause they stick together

I met Tony a few times in NY back in the late 70's and early 80's. I was a young wrestling fan who would hang out at the hotel before and after the MSG shows. Tony was always cool with me. He never came across as full of himself like some other wrestlers. One of my favs from the golden era.
How did you know which hotels they'd be at?
@@noskoolikeoldskool We lived a block away from the hotels and a friend told me he saw them checking in. We ran there as soon as he said that. I then found out that they worked out at a gym 2 blocks from there and I joined the gym just to be able to work out with them. My stepdad became close friends with Pedro Morales and he agreed to have me live with him in PR while he trained me. Unfortunately, I got caught up in the club scene at the same time and partying was more important. Error of youth. Or not. I'm happy with my life.
Rocky Johnson looks like those House Niggas , that say " look I'm better than Them' County boy niggas" to Impress Mr. White
Being from Philadelphia they defended titles against Piper and Muraco in Feb 1984. The following month March 1984 defended against Fugi and Tiger Chung Lee. Guess he forgot.
A quick search of WWE houses in late 83 early 84 show quite a lot of appearances together so where he gets 3 only he knows

I remember when Tony Atlas came on the NWA scene billed as Black Atlas wearing a Black mask and black Trunks. He was ripped with muscles but was so tongue tied it was a strain to hear him talk. He put fourth an effort to learn how to the better interviews and do each improvement. He was just a young muscle bound kid in the beginning but really learned a lifetime of experiences during I enjoy hearing his tales of his past adventures now.

When I was 12 years old my favorite thing was watching wrestling on Saturday. Tony became and was my hero . I watched him when he wrestled Hulk Hogan for the Belt and he pinned Hogan and the ref raised his hand and gave Tony the belt . I was jumping up and down around the living room screaming at the top of my lungs. My hero my hero just won the belt only to get it taken right there live Tv because they said Hogans leg was on the rope. This broke my heart so bad I WAS DEVASTATED and never watched wrestling ever again not even one match.

Why did they have to ride in the same car together, so that the fans can see how "close" they are? For something as important as the attendance of the talent, you'd think a company would rent a van or something.
The only one who didn't do that to me ...names off 3 dudes 😂 tony a trip
He didn’t have to tell the listeners Rocky Johnson business even if it was over25 30 years ago. Got Dwayne and his Mother in one room...his girl in the next. Fucked up. R.I.P Rocky Johnson.

@Arnold Anderson nah im saying tony really snitched

I pretty sure I saw a match of tony atlas rocky Johnson and some body else against piper orndorff and David Shultz I’m gonna have to check now
You're likely correct, Tony's history is off on that. They weren't teaming together every night but it wasn't as rare as he made it out to be. Still odd for tag champs not to be teaming almost if not every night.
They teamed a lot and defended the titles a lot. I saw them defend the belts against Piper and Shultz in the Garden in April 1984. If you go to the History of the WWF online, you will see they teamed a lot and defended the belts a ton especially against the Samoans, Adonis and Murdoch, Tiger Chung Lee and Mr. Fuji and any combinations of Roddy Piper, David Shultz and Paul Orndorff.
@@philipclarke9696 His memory is off here, but to be fair, they did not work as a team as regularly as most tag champions, they did do a lot separate events as singles, but worked as a team and defended the titles far more than he claims.
I would imagine that not that much has changed for black guys in the locker room nowadays too. From viewing these old-stories, you could piece together that the NOD vs. Ahmed Johnson thing was of the same ilk, maybe.

Tony Atlas & Rocky Johnson

Whatever happened to hacksaw Butch Reed
Wow, the WWF work atmosphere sure was toxic! Not unusual for the 1980’s - but you still gotta wonder, does someone who created that toxic of an atmosphere deserve to be a millionaire?
Sabotagin'-ass Rocky Johnson.
That's not true. They teamed in the Philadelphia Spectrum in Jan of 1984. I saw the 8 man match vs the samoans and sgt slaughter. Andre, snuka, atlas, and Rocky johnson. I saw it live and remember it to this day Snuka jumping off Andres shoulders.
They should not refer to Tony Atlas as the Unpredictable One for in the world of Wrestling the only 1 that has earned that title is the 1996 WWE Hall of Famer the Unpredictable One Jonny Rodz. And that is with all due respect to Tony Atlas.
Did Tony have any dealings with Butch Reed?
Maybe, but one thing for sure is he’s had a lot of dealings with women’s shoes.
