Quite a slog up that grade for a fully loaded freight, eight notch and fingers crossed that nothing failed under the strain. 1994 and that XPT blowing as much smoke as the ALCO's. Three dets and the show comes to a stand for the 900 class set. Great video, thank you for your efforts.

9:59 ContransUnited lol. Obviously this video was made in the days just after April 25 1994 when complete National Rail crewing on the Sydney-Melbourne corridor began. They still retained 1950s era equipment like the 44 class for an extra month or so.

Only three 80 class ever received the "candy livery" 8015, 8018 and 8034. The other 47 were in standard Indian red 8001 to 8014, 8016 and 8017 and 8019-8030. Reverse livery was applied new to 8031to 8033 and 8035-8050. They were all repainted in Freightrail blue. No 80 class ever received the "red terror" livery as displayed by the trailing units 4470 and 4454. The locos appeared in the "red terror" livery because in an effort to brighten up railway stations they ordered to much red paint and to get rid of it they repainted locos in it. The story goes that instead of ordering 1,000 litres they ordered 10,000 litres. The paint was cheap rubbish and the strong alkaline detergents used in washing the locos soon ate through the cheap acrylic paint.
