You know what I find most interesting about steam locomotives? They sound alive, hissing and huffing, their whistles are their voices, calling out to seek attention. Their fire burns like its beating heart and their water is the blood which runs though its body, such marvelous machines.
As an Octogenarian (86) ""locked down " for almost a year now, this has given me a wonderful escape for an hour or so, in my Attic hideaway, couple of beers, most enjoyable. So many thanks for posting!.
As a Dutchman, with 40 railway years behind him, used to Dutch, German and Belgium Steam, I always find the British steam locomotives the most pleasant to look at. This marvellous registration proves my idea.
Thank you so much for this video and the time and great effort you put into making it . Loved the bit at four minutes when the two boys tried to run along the platform and keep up with the train . Their excitement brought back memories , yep I'm that old . As for the " Royal Scot " I had that header on my electric trainset as a kid. My mother had spent what was then a fortune to buy me the "Duchess of Montrose " Hornby engine . I remember as a kid standing on the platform train spotting at Watford Junction and the announcement of standing back from the edge of the platform as an express was approaching , as they raced by you almost got sucked into the slip stream .
This video is an excellent artistic and technical achievement. To combine so many technical brilliant shots, many with that elusive "moody" atmospheric lighting in HQ video with HQ sound is probably unique. And a brilliant mix to boot. Very well done!
3802 departing Llangollen Station and my Dodgy Black 5 Brother passing Berwyn on a goods train. Thanks for including this. You captured 3802 when she was borrowing Foxcote Manor's tender. You've made my day. I saw Rood Ashton Hall four times if I've got it right. Rood Ashton Hall is my new favourite Great Western Tender Engine, and I haven't even met her in the flesh yet. But I do have the Shakespeare Express Train Set in Bachmann 00 gauge form.
WoW Now that's what I call an absolutely excellent compilation. I thoroughly enjoyed watching and being able to see and hear the full train, counting the carriages they passed. It was also nice too see some of the old stations so well maintained and fun, for me, too see if I still remembered how to pronounce them. This video brought back many good memories of my youth and train spotting days in the UK. Thank you for sharing :-)
Absolutely awesome compilation of fine British steam locomotives and their much varied and magnificent railway stations. I can imagine the logistics involved to capture so much brilliant footage and how much of a pleasure it must have been to film it and later to edit it all into this superb video. Well done! Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia
@@stuartdixon9552 :I was referring to the Cylinder size in comparison to the physical size and weight of the train which makes them appear small. Agreed, for a steam engine they are pretty large and certainly pack a punch. The amount of human effort required to feed them with sufficient steam was just about at the maximum possible in the space available which, presumably, is why the Americans used oil fed firing ultimately to pull larger trains.
Great compilation, there is something quite magical about a big steam locomotive thundering through a station and seeing the reaction of the travelling public on the platform, you have certainly captured that here. Excellent work.
Agreed I wish I lived in your country I've never been on a steam train but I think they are beautiful so much nicer than diesel or electric trains hopefully one day I will move there.
Cheers Steve, stations nowadays are a lot harder to film on than what's shown on here, mostly due to Facebook, radio and local paper advertisements of all such steam movements. Prefer the rural/lineside locations but you don't get the excitement factor of a loco at full pelt through a bustling station !
Australian steam drivers; “station ahead, *60 for safety” British steam drivers; station ahead, make it ^60 and keep her cracked wide open. It’s show time”! *kilometres per hour ^miles per hour
These beautiful old steam trains have bought back beautiful memories of when I was a young girl, we went up north on the flying Scotsmen ❤, in the early 60s and my love for steam has never died, my dad and I use to go to traction engine rallys we drove a burrel dad was controller and I steared it was the best day's of my life ❤ 💙 😀
Just excellent. Your videos are seriously a class apart. An insane amount of subscribers but worth every one of them. Hope the channel is doing strong numbers for you!
Fantastic compilation Liam and Phil. Great selection of locos and superb array of locations. What was the time range for this amount of stations. Wonderful editing. Stay safe. Kind regards C&A
I started to watch this out of mild interest, then suddenly realised I was starting to get emotional! What beautiful machines they are. How do I find out how to go and see one in action and why are some emitting white steam while others emit dark smoke? Layman here! lol
Superb compilation to keep us on the boil in these pandemic days. Top notch ! Just one observation, the caption on 35 mins for Braunton needs the spelling corrected. One question I have for which I have never had a definitive answer is "why do we have to have a diesel tacked on the back in so many instances ?" Many thanks
Some destinations need a diesel for turning or dragging a steam loco back out of a terminus and on some occasions the loco upfront is deemed under powered for it's train. Thanks for pointing out the typo, though Its now too late and cant be changed. Thanks for your kind words. Regards, Liam
you have to be by far one of the best steam train RUclipsrs...i love every single video you make
You're far too kind, thanks very much !

My best friend, OMG! So wonderful! I really love this! Thank you so much!
Thank you for bringing back so many happy memories of my trainspotting days !!
You're welcome David.
That damned Beeching fellow and his enabler Marples. Too much, too soon. Should never have happened the way it did.
Excellent compilation dude....
It still amazes me after 70 years how those little cylinders of steam move hundreds of tons of train. Great vid thank you.
They are not small by any means. The A4 cylinders for example are 18" diameter, by 26" stroke; and of course they have three cylinders.

Our pleasure!
They're all brilliant clips but the two black fives at five ways did it for me. Superb!!
Superb compilation which I really enjoyed."Beam me back Scotty"
An amazing collection of beautiful steam engines at work. Very well done!!

Superb Liam and Phil , must admit you can’t beat a station shot for the raw power and noise rather than our normal in the scenery locations.

My pleasure 😊
Truly Wonderful!!! It's also nice to see a lot of these trains without Diesels heading up the rear!!
We are so lucky in this country to have so much steam on the main line and at preserved railways .
Brilliant! Best compilation video I’ve seen for a long time. Excellent filming.

Full steam ahead or what, fantastic!
This was simply stunning!
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
thanks this was bloody brilliant
GW tender locos always sound great: knocking 'blocks' of exhaust clean in the air and chopping them all off with the precision of a cheese cutter!
I just love this line
Excellent selection Liam :)
Spectacular video
Glad you think so!
they are all so majestic
Great video - thanks very much!

Absolute Perfection 👌
On a different note Did anyone notice the plastic bag landing on the passengers face at 17:31?
Many thanks, there's a video from the person that was hit with the bag it's somewhere on youtube as I watched it years ago !

How often do england let's these old iron horses run by the stations?
Prior to Covid at peak summertime, in excess of five specials a week !

Where can you find out where trains are going to go through in the uk .
Why is there 6201 Princess Elizabeth pulling a diesel?
Why is there a diesel pushing behind the passenger train when Union of South Africa is hauling?

Cheers, can you point a few out ?
Cool. 😎
Great viewing but it would have been great if station names could be seen
Great video, but a shame West Coast have to put a diesel locomotive on the backs of their trains. ruins the romance a bit
