Ingredients for dough
3 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 cup of cold butter
1/2 cup of cold vegetable shortening
1 cup of iced cold water
Ingredients for filling
2 1/2 cups cooked black eyed peas
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp gravy browning
A few drops of yellow and red colouring
2 tbsp milk to brush pastry

BEAUTIFUL Chinese cakes. Very simple recipe. It's really looking very appetizing. You have mastered the recipe . I think in Guyana, we have substitute the red beans with black eyes and the sesame seeds with red dots. In China the pastry still exists but with red beans * Azuki* beans. Guyana is known for it pastries and Chinese cake is a great snack with some tea. I usually make mine with black beans and it does taste good too. You should try it one day.
