  • It's time for an engine upgrade!! We're pulling out our little 4.8L in preparations for a 6.0L LQ9 swap. I will show the steps I took to pull the motor out of the truck. There are a lot of videos on LS motor pulls, so mine is not super in-depth, like some of my other "How To" videos. I will still try to pass on some knowledge, and I hope you enjoy the video as well. Thank you for watching, and your support!

    Tech tip... if you loosen the bottom hood hinge bolts you can lean the hood back and put them in the next set of holes. It keeps it out of the way and you can do it with one person. Also no alignment issues and more space! Good stuff man she's gonna rip

      Definitely some good info! I found out about that hood service position like a day after I pulled the hood lol. But its all good, with my short garage ceilings I would have needed to pull the hood once I jacked the truck up anyways. Thanks for the support!!

      Thanks!! I do not have the claddings. I did go with the SS front bumper, I prefer the looks over a stock bumper. Instead of doing a full SS clone, I decided to do a quadrasteer bedswap, to run some fat back tires. Plus I think it will help distinguish my build from the 1000s of other single cab builds and ss clones

    Are you swapping the cam and everything into the 6.0? I am doing a LS swap into a 87 S-10 and may be interested in the 4.8. I'm wanting to daily it so I'm not trying to put anything radical in it. A mild cammed LS with a 6 speed should get down the road pretty well.

      Hey, sorry for the late reply. The 4.8L and camshaft are staying together. I'll be swapping it into my project c5 corvette, for boost. The 6.0L is getting a bigger cam, something like a 232/240, and Frankenstein heads.
      A modified 4.8L and 6 speed would definitely get that s10 moving! I'd check marketplace, local junk yard, or car-part.com for a complete 4.8L. There are alot of them out there for 400-500$. Thanks for the support!

    Hey man I got a question , I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 flex fuel 5.3.
    I had a problem with the oil pump and my engine seized up . I swapped it out already with a 2002 Tahoe 5.3 motor non flex fuel just regular vortec . That’s all I changed just the motor and it won’t start or crank, do you think it could be the crank sensor or pcm?

    • @TheKingCoopa
      @TheKingCoopa  Год назад

      Hey, so there are alot of variables in your equation, because you changed from a gen IV motor to a gen III.
      Flex fuel, the main differences between the motors is the Injectors. Your truck already has the ecu tune, flex fuel pump, and sensor for it, so id just swap over the injectors and your good there.
      The other issues: did you connect the knock sensors and put them in the factory location? Or the gen III location.
      Did you swap over the gen IV timing cover and sensor?
      And the biggest thing, did you change out the reluctor wheel? It's a toothed gear that is press fit on the back of the crankshaft, that the crank position sensor reads. Gen III have a 24 toothed reluctor wheel, while a gen IV has a 58 toothed wheel. If you didn't swap this, it WILL NOT run, no matter what you do.
      I know if you had a NBS truck and wanna swap a gen IV motor into it, linkinfelter sells a box, you can wire in. That will divide the signal to trick the ecu to think it has a 24 tooth reluctor wheel, like a factory gen III motor. You should do some research to see if they make a box that can convert the 24 tooth signal to a 58tooth so your system reads it like normal. Im sure someone makes it. If not, worst case scenario, your gonna have to pull the motor, and replace the reluctor wheel with the proper one.

    So I’m wanting to do this swap does a lq9 Fully swap/bolt on to the 4.8? I have a 2005 Silverado 4.8 just want to know before I purchase the lq9

    • @TheKingCoopa
      @TheKingCoopa  6 месяцев назад

      Yup, everything is exactly the same. Besides the displacement, and a tune.
      I'd just make sure you swap your flywheel over. (Some are dished or non dished, depending on the years and if the lq9 has the longer crank, protrusion out the back end, that the flywheel bolts to) other than that, it is definitely worth it for an NA setup

  • @omarbatista6572
    @omarbatista6572 2 года назад +1

    Hey bro I had a question , when swapping from a 4.8 to 6.0 can I still use the same computer and everything ? or does the wiring and computer change ?

    • @TheKingCoopa
      @TheKingCoopa  2 года назад +1

      Hey, everything will stay the same. The only thing you are changing is the internal displacement. Wiring, computer, and sensors will stay the same, its a direct swap. But You will 100% need a new tune though.
      (This is in regards for a gen III 4.8L to a gen III 6.0L swap. If you are changing from a gen III to a gen IV motor, like an LS2 or LS3 then there are some wiring/sensor differences, and the reluctor wheels are different. So its a more complicated swap)
