I respect German football, especially the way they develop & nurture young players. Not only that these young players are playing regularly in the Bundesliga first teams, German national team are benefiting from it. Germany are world champions due to investing in coaching, producing better quality technical players. In the past Germany were known for being big, physical & organized style of play. Germany of today play like Spain with but with German characteristics. All football associations should learn from Germany when it comes to youth development.
Then bayern buys all the best young talents from the other clubs making sure the dominate the bundesliga.
Fuerstenwalde is my home town where I was born. But my family escaped to West-Berlin and West Germany and now I am living in Canada. So, I am very proud that this documentary showing my home town, like Fuerstenwalde.

i love a documentary that starts with "what went right?". That's pretty unusual.
I have been a huge admirer of how german football works, especially because they keep it simple. The Bundesliga is a really good league to watch and the development of german football is very much a model to follow. I know the FA in England are now coperating with the DFB sharing ideas and developing our games.
Even for the vast majority who don't make it to the professional level, learning to focus on a goal, budget your time, follow a schedule, and be independent is a great gift. I wish I had been raised in a similar environment. I had too much freedom as a child. My ability to focus has never and will never match that of someone who grew up like this. Not that it's perfect either.
The players who make it to the top level without experience at these academies might be more creative, individualistic, & self motivated without a coach pushing them. It's a fascinating question and very difficult to know the best solution for sure.
One thing that is generally known is this. Many players can reach the basic level of physical fitness and skill. With few exceptions, the best players are those who think on their feet the fastest.

In addition, for over 10 years the German national side has employed a Director of Yoga, Patrick Broome, to overcome their main weakness of inflexibility and to acclimatise to the heat of Brazil in the World Cup. Yoga is useful as it prevents injuries (particularly hamstrings), maximises range of movement in the hip area, improves breathing by increasing lung capacity and has various psychological benefits which improve concentration and prevent choking when taking penalties.
A real shame if you love football but have to grow up in America's pay to play and the highest you can go is collegiate sawker. If you can somehow leave to train in Europe, do it as soon as possible :(

This is brilliant, Germany are doing it right. It also makes me sad and I wish I tried harder when I was younger. I got scouted at an early age but never made the selection. I remember making a training schedule when I was around 8, but I had nobody to guide me like these young players. The future looks bright for the German kids though 🙌🏼😊

The challenge is really the selection and training opportunities at the youngest levels. When the selection happens too early, you end up over-specializing some kids before they can handle it, and you end up ignoring other kids who are either „late“ bloomers (like 6 to 9 months too late) or who don‘t belong to the right youth clubs (due to location, income, etc.). The first group has a massive burnout rate. The second group misses opportunities to receive the higher level training they need. From U14 and up, these specialist programs make sense. Younger than that and you‘re better off investing in the lottery.
I only live in a small town in the U.S so I don't have good clubs like these

you have to understand that you have good footballing infrastructure in even the most rural areas of germany
if you are serious about it. You need to move. Simple as that.

Well, the German's had a good - not great team, but what was great was there ability to unite as a team. I just hope they have a system in place for when they are told they unwanted by an outfit.

The Map at around 17:45 is sooo wrong. Many Clubs (almost everyone) are located at the wrong place... For example: Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich should be far more in the east. SC Freiburg is actually almost in the sout-west corner, and so on. I don't know where you got that map from but this one is really incorrect.

This is a five stars system which will continuously produce highly ranked players for the Mannschaft and clubs as well.
If England dosen't want money to be a problem, than they should have those super rich foreign EPL club owners, own a percentage fractions of the English FA, have those super rich foreign owners invest and pocket in on ST. James Park, and sales of Three lion's merchandise.
This is what's needed in Scotland the philosophy of how we teach our kids is not right. Germany have won big tournaments there a great football nation it starts at young age.
But recently Germany got grouped 2 World Cup in a row and exited Euro 2020 in the round of 16.
It's now 5 years since this documentary went out and still very influential in my young coaching career, I'm 23 years old from Kenya

All the existing competition has hyped up the football too much. It's nowadays more about improving and beating others than enjoying the game itself, which is actually the purpose. I am not saying that results are not important but not more important than the gameplay.
This kind of atmosphere creates unhealthy stress.

These have discipline from parents at home. That is what america lacks.
It as amazing, they showed my birth place of Fuerstenwalde which was oriented in the former communist East-Germany just 35 km east of Berlin.
Wow ok listen up people, all of this was WAY too expensive for vast majority of families. The solution is not more facilities. You have to get more kids playing more often. Kids 5-11 should be playing indoor Futsal. They will spend less time standing around in drills and more time actually playing and developing the ball skills. There need to be more non-profit youth Futsal clubs. Sure maybe the percentage of the kids who will come out of this program would be good, but you will way more to choose from. Then they get more technical training after that.
Germany's method is good and is better than a lot of other countries. I just can't stand how only families with money can get into this sport. Football should be the world's least expensive sport, but it's turning into the most expensive.
Expensive? Those are not private schools or anything like that...usually those training opportunities are offered by clubs, which require a small member fee, but that is hardly something to go bankrupt over - and by far not everyone who participates has even the intention to go pro, for most of them it is simply about having a fun time with friends. And indeed a lot of those smaller clubs ARE registered as non-profit organisations. It is a little bit different in the Bundesliga, where the big money is, but there is a distinctive line drawn between the profit part of the business and the "great place to send your kid to fill his afternoon" business.

england has no control about the premier league its a sold leage in hand of sheikhs and investors who use is to make their own profit or for their own entertainment they dont care to grow up a english succesfully team

In Canada you don't have qualified coaches. Because any high school has their own coaches for any of the sports. In Germany you could never do that because you have to become a coach in a proper coaching school for any of the sports ( like my coach who became a coach in Women Team Handball) . It was not allowed that any person who was not qualified could not be a coach. In Canada you have very lax enforcement of these ideas. You should be ashamed of yourselves because you don't care about the children's welfare.
How are these teaching useful for everyday life for those kids?

The school they showed at Schalke is actually a so called "Gesamtschule", meaning you can get whatever school degree you want beside playing football. There was actually kind of a Scandal a few years back because the Trainer of Schalke told the parents of Draxler that he shouldn't worry about leaving his school (not the Schalke one) for his career, because he was such a talent. Nobody was happy about the notion that a young man should just forgo education in favour of being just a football player, no matter how talented he was. The club itself intervened, talked with the parents and he simply changed to the school they showed there, because this way he could participate easier in training and they could work around his football schedule if needed (he was already playing international at age 17).
So, everyone can get a proper degree and if they spend all their free time playing sports, there is hardly anything bad about it as long as they like it, right?
Mexico, you watching this? Let's go. You're the ONLY nation that has more consistent exits in the first elimination round than ANY other. This tells me you HAVE what it takes as far as youth development (not to mention 2 youth world cups. What's that? youth world cups don't matter? why? cause its that easy? cool story, where's your youth world cup then hmm?) goes, but then something is lacking with the age range from 17+.
You need to get a hold of your team owners, and stop them from importing foreign players to fill their wallets with cash from merchandise sales.
Mexico certainly has the foundation to produce world caliber players, unfortunately the Mexican football federation and the teams owners are too greedy and only care about the money they get in their pockets instead of looking to ACTUALLY improve football in Mexico. Unlike with Germany, who actually put their money where their mouth is, and improved their football situation, Mexico has the ability to do the same, but they choose not to because the people who pull the strings are happy just getting money the way things are. They really couldn't care less about the standing of Mexican football in relation to the rest of the world. Mexico could be the SHITTIEST team in the world, but as long as they keep getting their money, its all good in da hood.

I understand that there is a SUPER STRONG bias in Europe to keep European football better than American (continent) football. It was and HAS been painfully obvious in all world cup events. So I understand that there is an agenda to have European teams use European players to let them develop, before they use an American based player.
It is what it is, and Mexico not giving a damn about actually developing their players is an issue. You see it in the games against big teams, Mexico just doesn't have that "extra" to consistently win games against big teams

Therefore 70% of foreign players in PL will stay on. And can even increase. Too much profit thinking in football, in general, and it hurts game itself. At the end of the day you have to enjoy playing football and not feel like you are in labour camp, and everyone around you is your rival that you must out-compete for a spot. But, hey, it's profit thinking system we live in.
