    The mittens are very pretty, and it was interesting to see how you made the thumb hole.

      Anna Marie these are super easy, kind of like the beginning of a sock. This would be a great beginner pattern before you knit socks. Sometimes I even leave the thumb hole out and just make them without they are perfect like that too. My latest makes video has lots of different fingerless mitts options you should check it out and you can see what you can do with this pattern. 😊💕😊Marie

    Hi…..oh my goodness I have been searching all over RUclips trying to find a video that show how to knit a mitt with a thumb hole and the ones I seen was so complicated for a beginner. Thank you sooooo much! I have one question…I am using flexi needles the ones you showed with 3…..how many deceases do I do when using just the 2 needles?

    • @Whirledpeas00Knits
      @Whirledpeas00Knits  Месяц назад

      When you are making a thumb hole you just essentially cast off like 6 or 7 stitches or whatever seems right for the size of your thumb. It may be less if you are using worsted and your stitches are bigger. Essentially you are making a button hole to stick your thumb out. Let me know if this answers your question. 💕💕Marie

    Hi Maree, This is great. I’m a crocheter and my mum sort of taught me to knit 40 years ago on straight needles.
    I’ve been knitting scarfs ever since and never ventured any further, but my husband has a pair of socks that he loves more than life and they are about 20 years old that his grandma knit him (they are starting to get holes) he asked me to knit him a pair so now I want to learn to knit socks, think your video has given me a kick in the pant to learn, can you please recommend some needles that I should get for socks? Dpn’s or circular, what brand? I think all the choices and not knowing where to begin has been putting me off.
    Have a great day and thanks for the tutorial

      Hi Meagan, I usually knit my socks on the 2.75mm needles, DPN’s. I believe most people prefer a slightly smaller size for longer lasting socks. But I don’t seem to have trouble with mine. It also depends on if your sock yarn is on the thicker or thinner side. I would use a 2.5 or smaller if it is thinner. Some of the thicker sock yarns from the big box craft stores work fine with the 2.75mm needles. The needles that I am using in this video are from Knit Picks I will go into the notes and make a link for them. They are 5 inch size US 2 (2.75), made of wood. You can also get metal needles if you like to go faster. I usually get Knitters Pride Zing brand in the metal needles, they also make those 9 inch circular needles if you think you would prefer those. I feel like it’s a bit easier to make my heels on DPN’s so I usually use those for just the heels and toes, but it’s a preference. 🌸😊🌸Marie

      Meagen I would try google first if you don’t know where to start and research sock construction. Toe up or cuff down. I discovered when I set out to learn cuff down involved a lot of stuff I didn’t like or feel comfortable with when it came to gussets and heels, like moving stitches. The key for me was I wanted to think less when learning to make them. I found wendyknits.com and her toe up socks books. Her basic toe up sock with gusset heel is the only pattern I use. I’ve turned it into a recipe so I only need to know two numbers and have to look at one row to start the heel. That’s how little thinking there is, but it was just done thru research. Now there are a whole bunch of knitting sock videos on RUclips. You can just follow along. There’s even a few online zoom classes that are affordable and will teach you construction you can find thru google. Just start googling and finding information. And you too will knit a pair in no time and can replace your husband’s beloved socks. You can also look up how to patch them up!
