Every Other RUclips Channel , IDK, but he might be circulated Breathing(I think that is what it is called) but I also seen him jerking backwards every once in a while, so idk
With circulated breathing it works best with trills cause with the trills knocks out the noise when circular breathing. But simce there really is no trills, then he either did it and we didnt hear it or he can hold his breath for a long time.
@@wayynnee , yeah and he's breathing through his nose. You can tell when he breathes by when his throat flexes and momentarily when his embouchure moves
Josue Palomares yea i’ve heard horns are really hard. they have a beautiful sound though especially when they play loud. but yea i was thinking either trumpet or trombone
It will take almost 4 years to be able to learn the technique and play something like this if you work hard and play daily. Trust me that is not a lot of time. When you begin playing music is the most fun time. You should enjoy it.
Kyle, great playing as always :) My favorite part of this (other than the obvious great technical playing), is how your attention to dynamics makes it so musical. Really, nice! Thanks for posting these :)
I was in Kentucky's all state band. I never had to do any of this elite shit to get into that. As a matter of fact, if I did have to do that, I wouldn't have stood a chance.
TMEA (this is like tmea's little brother, loved, but not *as* respected) is a really big deal here in Texas and I'm learning university level repertoire just to make it region level. Our directors really push us to the max in order for us to have the Slightest chance of making all-state.
thank you so much 😩 this is my second year auditioning for lions band and I am so thankful to have a HELPFUL reference video! No way I will sound as good as this guy though
I wish that something as useful as these vids had been around 40 years ago when I was playing. I was fortunate enough to be in a first class program and to have the benefit of really great teachers, but there were a lot of kids with talent and desire who did not, and who would have benefitted mightily from something like this. Bravo!
Not gonna lie, the bad example he shows sounds exactly like someone in my band. It’s kind of bad because he wants to be a music performance major too. 🥶🥶
Aaron Orloff We try. He just doesn’t get any better. We’ve been trying for 5 years. Genuinely 5 years that he hasn’t gotten better and still sounds awful.
Mariachi Entertainment System what do you mean by “swinging” the figures? If you mean the slight unevenness whenever he leans on the accents, I think it helps them speak clearly and sets them apart from the rest of the technique; it also makes for a more interesting musical statement than just playing it metronomically, like an arban study. And the reason he suggests double tonguing is because that’s how you differentiate between the regular 6/8 phrase and the hemiola, where it turns into 4 groups of triplets.
You really have something against the Met don’t you? I saw you say the same thing on the other video even though nothing was wrong with the way he played.
John is a fantastic player and colleague- he chose to use a different articulation pattern and tempo than I did. If either of us had realized we had the same etude, we’d probably have talked about a strategy here, but I think we just both had a lot going on around these recording dates and I know for my part, I learned what he was doing for the first time when I saw it on RUclips! I decided to use a double tongue pattern to achieve the 6/8 feel I wanted, because otherwise you end up with a duple feel. The tradeoff there for me was tempo- I wasn’t willing to spend the hours I might have needed to do that at top tempo. John’s approach utilizes a triple tongue technique, which can work better if you want to achieve the top tempo, but at the expense of the feeling of 6/8. You feel like you’ve got 4 beats to the bar instead of of 6, or two sets of 3. While it might have been good if John and I had got on the same page here, I think it’s cool that you have two takes to choose from. John sounds great, and I think there’s a lot to learn from his approach. I think both of our vids show how you can go after this etude. I saw Johns and thought, “ok I should have done top tempo, now I look like a dumb”
@@kylesherman2793 thanks for this comment! Y'alls videos are very helpful for students auditioning for all state. I mean my comments to be interpreted as harmless fun. Question for pros. I've always been taught to keep my bell straight and out to the audience. His bell angle clearly doesn't keep him from playing greatly. Just curious on how much horn angle matters.
You can get fine airflow with the bell pointed low and it also helps you play more relaxed. Certainly putting the bell up will make you louder to the audience.
He probably learned it that way. I know many trumpet players who play with a low angle. I'm not one of them, since playing low is uncomfortable for me.
This music seems easy to an all state French horn player. We move our hands much more, and our mouthpieces are smaller, making it harder for us to have good range, so of course they put 4 octaves in a piece for us. Its also harder to stay in tune. One more thing, we don't get the luxury of a tutorial made simple as this. We do however have the luxury of a good iq. This is something I could find out how to play myself. Without sheet music. Just the audio..
People in the comments fr acting like this is hard and he's tounging to fast. Anyone who has been practicing double tounging for like a month can do this etude. Only thing hard about it is being able to go through the etude without being tired and DYNAMICS (oh how I hate you)

You can be smooth and graceful while triple tonguing. Also it would help if this guy played with even timing instead swinging the figures so much.
