@wreckanchor The bobber is to keep the crab suspended in the water column, so it doesn't dart to the bottom making it easier for the tarpon to eat it.

@RealMonsterD There is no better line than FINS. I made a mistake and didn't put the right tensile strength on the reel. 20 lb test is not heavy enough for 100+ fish.

How did you guys rig the bobber? Did you use some kind of bobber stop? I live in Va. and we are at the northern most point of the tarpons territory. We get them here in the real hot days of July, August. I can just about always find them but cant seem to get them to eat. Its frustrating watching them roll by and not get bit. Need help. Thanks

Blair, can you tell me what model is the rod? i didn't get it. Do you think I can fight a 100 pounder bluefin with that rod? here in Venice (italy) we have many of those little bluefin and in this period you can catch them only with a spinning lure, no way to convince them to eat a tasty live mackerel.
    Thank you anyway,

I agree 20# isn't strong enough, but 30# is. In Nicaragua/Pearl Lagoon we boated multiple 200+ fish using a 30# mono mainline/80# leader. See Saltwater Sportsman/June 2009 edition...nice fish and video production guys.

Honestly net some large mullet at cut a large chunk. Use a large circle hook and throw it out there. A lot of people don't realize that tarpon like to scavenge for food. This was an accidental way to hook up my dad and I found by sheer accident. Some will say the head works best but I find a middle section of the mullet is best. If there's sharks around best to stick to plugs and crabs though. Morning you can use a large top water (5 1/2 inch rapala is great). Night there's a ton of plugs that work. Good old mirror lures are tried and true. Swap the treble hooks for circle hooks though.
