In a world with dragons, zombies, gods, angels, and avatars, the thing that dealt the most damage being a fucking rug is both hilarious and very on brand for mtg lmao.
In a world with storms and combos, those puny beings are all swept under the rug.
Rug of smothering is one of my favorite cards because of this. It's always dealing 60+ damage lol
I never knew aetherflux reservoir had a counter, it pulled the rug out from under me
Shaun here pointing out a small narration error that doesn't really affect anything. On my final turn Toothy got 1 counter (correctly) but in the narration it was mentioned that 2 were placed.
Proof?? Good win if this was really you
@@kylemattox2080bahaha you are asking for proof rn? that’s shaun
It happened a few times, and I went back just to make sure there wasn't a misplay with the number of counters added (there wasn't)
I've never seen the life totals be 1-1-1-0 at some point in the game, what a finish
and it ended with a "win the game" effect xD
I work at a card shop and got laughed off for going bonkers over the Rug for cedh. The validation is real!
WHAT A GAME! The rug tech was crazy!
Glad to see Toothy got do his thing! I love this deck but Bowmasters makes it tough to play
lmaoooo threw down that wheel of fortune
That was not the way i expected the game to end based on the decks at the table or the rug doing as much work as it did. Good job.
What a game! I love rug in casual, I never thought I'd see it put in so much work in a cEDH game
where is ryan's playmat from, looks super cool. Great game as always!
10:30 why did Alex block toothy with his archaic? Doesn’t he have protection from everything and can’t take damage?
No, since the one ring entered the battlefield from transmute artifact
the one ring was brought out through transmute artifact so it didnt get the protection trigger
Question, would you not have to put two age counters on the Mystic Remora because of Pir's ability? Don't think it would effect the game, just kinda curious.
Yes, Pir will double the cumulative upkeep by putting an extra age counter.
Take a shot every time "rug triggers" is said
At 8:10, Wouldn't Pir cause additional age counters to be placed onto Mystic Remora, increasing the effective cumulative upkeep?
Yes it would. We missed it. Magic is hard.
Nice game! Great finish! ❤❤❤
Wow that rug is pretty sweet
Very cool win!
Ok that was an incredible match, GGs!
@09:12 why cast lotus gamble before tymna draws?
8:08 - should Remora get 2 counters through Pir here?
Thisssss game was so sick!!!
So im building a Toothy and Pir deck?? Oh okay. Wow im in love.
I made mine a merfolk tribal for some added flavor, very fun deck to pilot :)
What a finish! Very cool game to watch even if the narrator is a puntmaster
Ive always loved Rug of Smothering, glad to see it get a spotlight! Heavily underrated card that can put in serious work
The Elvish Mystic just refused to die to Bowmasters 😂
Why didn't Ryan Pyroblast Toothy instead of Rift? With all the Bowmaster triggers he'd get from Shaun's drawing, he would've won on the spot.
Hindsight is 20/20
Also Ryan should have probably attacked before casting Gamble as it would have decreased the chance of discarding Wheel
Rug or damping sphere 🤔🤔🤔
Holy crap everyone at 1 life. What an ending
amazing win wuth Toothy!!
Dammm very nice. And what a win
Why copy Chrome Mox with Metamorph? I thought that Rug would've been the better choice there.
Did alex using march of swirling mist in drannith give the game to shaun here
I don't think so. I needed to save my life because ryan kept swinging out at me. It was pretty bad luck that it also meant that the next player would play both their commander and drannith too. RIP.
10:18 why did alex die when he had the one ring protection ? The one ring still enter the battlefield even if it was a transmute artifact
Didn't have protection. I have to cast the one ring.
@@LateKnightsMTG oh yeah make sense
That game was incredible
Wasnt Alex protected by The One Ring etb? He blocked and also died for no reason 😅
Protection trigger is only from hand cast. He played it with transmute artifact
Luckily our game errors arent immortalized on camera for thousands to see. I once cast Yasharn, triggered Kodama and dropped a Necropotence on the field. Got laughed at as my opponents protected my Yasharn from my own removal lol
@@kylelinn6971 that's true! I don't know why I thought it was casted but you only pay the difference in cost, you don't actually cast it.
what a wild game
Simic wins (but not how you're expecting) and I'm NOT salty about it🤣
Rug was brutal. Really considering it for control/stax builds...
Okay, so it seems Rug of Smothering is a power house of a card, wow it did some work this game
Man, life totals.
9:19 Ryan casts red entomb then gets mad when it goes to graveyard? I don’t get it.
Why didn’t Alex take Esper over Tynma early?
Let's go Toothy!!
This game proves once and for all that life totals aren't everything in a game of Magic
Fun thing about rug too is that the triggers count spells cast when they resolve. So if there's a stack battle and someone casts say 5 spells, you can respond on top of the rug triggers so they end up taking 25 damage rather than 5+4+3+2+1
Rug keeps track of per player not total
@@horribleville The idea is to make them respond with earlier Rug triggers on the stack. Suppose they cast some random spell, get a Rug trigger, and on top of that trigger you counter it, then they cast another counterspell, and on top of that second Rug trigger you cast Deflecting Swat on the counter, which they also counter and get another Rug trigger. Since none of the Rug triggers has resolved yet, they'll take 3 damage for each one of them, not 1, 2 and 3.
still holding out for a new budget episode soon
At 10:35 Alex had protection from everything from the one ring so he didn't need to block
I didn't because I didn't cast the one ring. Thats the only way I can get protection.
@LateKnightsMTG oh damn, yeah I missed the transmute before it
Rug of Smothering's flavor text fits perfectly with how the game went
So, If Ryan had pyroblasted toothy, when he had orcish, he would have won. Toothy isn't a may trigger.
What a game
what a game hahah
*spoiler for game*
Imagine being at a table where everyone left is at 1 and winning via lab man combo
RUG MVP lol
Cancer drannith win the game
I never understand why on this channel people actually let others live lol i will yeet a player with no blockers with no remorse. And do the same to everyone else
Ryan is too salty for cedh. Oh you took my commander let me target you for the rest of the game instead of playing my deck in a way that actually makes sense.
🤡
So glad Ryan lost that game with those whiteboard proxies
What a game
