Honorable mention to Mist Valley Thunderbird. Before duel overload came out, there were combos surfacing involving Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty, Union Carrier, Mist Valley Thunderbird, and Mist Valley apex avian. In theory, this provided INFINITE NEGATES as long as nobody ran over Thunderbird after it summoned itself. Card went from .25 to $5 for the Hidden Arsenal copy and $7 for the Duel Terminal copy. On release of Duel Overload, this combo NEVER saw real play because 1) COVID-19 was in full force 2) no in person play was allowed with remote duels not really set up yet and 3) it was pretty easy to out.
Source: I bought 76 copies of Mist Valley Thunderbird, didn't get to sell them, then sold them to a shop before they tanked. Great learning experience because I would get cards from sellers that were NOT the correct printing or condition. Seriously, it's not near mint if there is pen ink on it.

I really hate the buyout market. In my opinion they make the game just as inaccessible as Konami’s greed. Every single time anything has potential and can be relatively hard to get is bought out for STONKS reasons. I wish they would just buy out the higher rarity versions of cards that already have printings and have lower rarity versions (ex. Go ahead and make Secret Rare Toad $100 if you want but why Gold Rare bulk Toad).

    • @KristopherCharles
      @KristopherCharles 2 года назад +2

To be fair I bought a hell of a lot of Maximum Gold and only got two copies.
TA was pretty clearly short printed in it.
It's one of only a handful of cards in the set that I still don't have 4+ copies of because I never find them in stock anywhere.
I even pulled more copies of Apollousa than TA which was also incredibly rare to see.
Print rarity and power level is generally more important than the designated rarity.
That's why, say, a lot of the cards - even secrets - in BROL are pretty cheap but ones like Souls' are not.
It may have the same rarity but they're not actually the same rarity because Konami doesn't know how to use rarities correctly.
If they wanted it (and the three others in its print rarity category) to be pretty rare they could have just made it starlight or stuck a couple ghosts or something in there if they wanted to and just saved the secret rare for LDS3.
Or just make all secrets legitimately as possible meaning you would have seen a playset of everything secret in about 2 boxes but they had to be stupid about it instead causing Souls' to remain relatively expensive.

The problem with gambling with this kind of "an old & almost broken" card is that there's only 2 options:
1). Konami already noticed the existence of this card and so will never make an archetype or support cards that will be busted with this particular card. For example, they won't ever make an archetype that will be busted by banishing 5 spells from deck.
2). Or, if Konami had an oversight and make the card super broken, they'll ban that card immediately, since it's an old card so it won't matter for them (Konami doesn't gain anything from the secondary market). Like what happened to Phoenixian Amaryllis.
Both of these options have happened a lot of time in the past, too many that you would be ignorant to still try to invest in these kind of things lol

So going back in time a little bit but during the dragon ruler and spellbook format a random deck called the Psychic earth bending deck top a YCS it didn't win frist but people went nuts over it. One card in that deck (for the life of me I can't remember the name of it) it was like banish two earth types to special summon it from the hand or something like that. Went from penny's to $40/$50 sold out everywhere and the deck died before people even got there copies in the mail.

7:01 Actually, people were considering this for Lyrilusc Tribrigade during BODE format to be Nibiru-proof, essentially playing this alongside 2 copies of E-Tele. Needless to say, it never caught on and made no showings in the topping lists of said deck. Builds running oath were fairly prominent at the time and the combo line that would make Oath in grave live would take up all your monster zones since you’d need to leave Kerass on board, thus giving this inferior tech no room to be played alongside Oath. Also, when you think about it, Draco Future has been the Nibiru safety net at the time since it forces the rock + the rest of your entire combo could be performed without a problem after being hit with Nib on say Utopic Future. I like the theory behind Ghost Fairy a lot, I even bought a copy of this card at the time, it just wasn’t good enough for what it’s worth - inconsistent as a non-engine card, a brick if you hard-drew it and of course a hard-going-first tech that would do nothing if you lose the die roll.

Well, you most likely reveal a lvl 1 so it is almost a Mystic Mine for your opponent that makes them give up MP1/BP so it guarantees you'll see another turn. Being a lingering effect makes this even more challenging to deal with.
If this were a tuner as well it would have way more value, because they would go for a very early Herald and would have probably had some meta relevancy.

Has anyone heard of a card called Sphere of Chaos? It’s a secret rare from Raging Battle that has only had one printing in the TCG. And it has spent over a decade in complete obscurity and worthlessness until it was featured in an Edison deck by E3 Yugioh’s channel, at which point the card was completely bought out on TCGPLAYER. There was a point where literally zero copies were available to sell. And any that did pop up went for anywhere between 50 and 90 dollars. The price has since dropped to between 15-30, as I think people realize it is extremely cope in the deck it was featured in, but it’s still a wild story.
