  • This is NOT by me! All credit goes to David J. Smith for this cover of Jim Steinman's The Graveyard Shift; the original version was supposed to be for the unfinished Batman Musical. For more info on it, go to www.freewebs.co... to check out the demo tracks and tribute songs.

    3:37 that change in tempo and those lyrics make the song. "God doesn't answer many prayers around here, he just sits back and lets it all be."

    Thanks very much from the composer! I'm gonna be doing another version of this demo shortly. Dark & moody with just piano, cello & vocal. Also new lyrics for the coda.

      I'd say it is the perfect time to do it now. To produce that movie, in honour of Adam West's passing and start one more campy Batman :P.

    Very nice. I like how he's rewritten the lyrics to fit the new style, while still keeping their meaning.

    @doortolight123 Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I was trying to do with the lyrics. Some are Steinman's from his (great) original demo and some I've written to try and keep the same vibe.

    This is NOT a Jim Steinman's song, also is NOT a cover. This is an original song composed by David J. Smith (Scaramouche)...obviously Steinman inspired by.
    There is another different "The graveyard shift" song demo written, played and sung by Steinman itself, but not this one.
    Anyway thank you for the upload, it's always a pleasure to hear Scaramouche on youtube

      Alister Crowley how is it not a cover if they largely have the same lyrics?
      Were they both given the same lyrics and composed 2 different songs around them?

      Search for "Ribbons of Blood" and "Dark Entwined With Darkness".... they are both on youtube. unlike this one that's a cover, those are both ones he wrote to SOUND like Steinman.....He does a good job doesn't he :-)

    ...Actually, I have considered a parody style musical. With Rorschach singing his version of "Javert's suicide" But I don't have the resources or focus to pull off more than just one song.

    I agree. Not because "it would make him lame" or something but because he is such a broken man. And not the kind of broken man who would want to express the hurt. He locks it away. Batman always avoids confronting himself with the pain of the past. It would simply not fit his character to sing at all.

    Hear the screams of the mad and desperate - true. That would be the ones who listened to this after hearing the original demos produced by Steinman/Rinkoff. It's like the person who made this never ever never heard the original, nor any other Jim song. This is so bland and devoid of any of the passion that Steinman produces in his works. It's so very...pop-ish.

    • @jacobburt1523
      @jacobburt1523 8 лет назад +4

      Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone shouldn't like it. Besides this one gives me more the sense of it's a reprise a variation of the song sung later in the play in this case the end

    • @RPhillip
      @RPhillip 8 лет назад

      +jacob burt Nope, it's Batman's introductory song. However, where it's placed in the show is irrelevant to the bland production, passionless vocals and uninspired arrangements. Again, as if the person singing, producing and programming the awful synthesized music has never heard Steinman's actual work, heard of Steinman or even Batman. And apparently is only vaguely aware of what a graveyard shift is.

    • @jacobburt1523
