- This is NOT by me! All credit goes to David J. Smith for this cover of Jim Steinman's The Graveyard Shift; the original version was supposed to be for the unfinished Batman Musical. For more info on it, go to www.freewebs.co... to check out the demo tracks and tribute songs.

3:37 that change in tempo and those lyrics make the song. "God doesn't answer many prayers around here, he just sits back and lets it all be."
Thanks very much from the composer! I'm gonna be doing another version of this demo shortly. Dark & moody with just piano, cello & vocal. Also new lyrics for the coda.
Please complete this musical I've got faith in you I'm sure you can do it!
Best movie never made
I'd say it is the perfect time to do it now. To produce that movie, in honour of Adam West's passing and start one more campy Batman :P.
Musical*
brilliant cover in fact if this project ever went ahead i could imagine Nightwing, Robin and RedHood singing this
Very nice. I like how he's rewritten the lyrics to fit the new style, while still keeping their meaning.
It really gives me the revised vibe for the end of the musical.
ufff - what a song, what a feel. this Jim steinman just makes breathtaking music. unbelievable. phenomenal ! I wish he had given more Songs to bonnie tyler. These two were a dreamteam.
I would honestly love to sing along to that one and be the batman for that role in this musical
@doortolight123 Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I was trying to do with the lyrics. Some are Steinman's from his (great) original demo and some I've written to try and keep the same vibe.

@dsmith7000 One of those rare examples where I prefer a cover to the original. :) Absolutely awesome, thanks so much for doing this, addicted to this song now!
Amazing version
thats awesome
This is NOT a Jim Steinman's song, also is NOT a cover. This is an original song composed by David J. Smith (Scaramouche)...obviously Steinman inspired by.
There is another different "The graveyard shift" song demo written, played and sung by Steinman itself, but not this one.
Anyway thank you for the upload, it's always a pleasure to hear Scaramouche on youtube
Alister Crowley how is it not a cover if they largely have the same lyrics?
Were they both given the same lyrics and composed 2 different songs around them?
Sounds like he stole from Steinman's "No Where Fast"
I'm starting to like this David J. Smith guy
...I liked it , new but just as good as the original, added an energetic beat, but kept a slight orchestral flair.
+MrVictorClark "At least there aren't any Ice puns."
You get a prize for that comment. Thank you.
At least there aren't any Ice puns.
"You hate me, don't you?"
Dynaman21 I found this because of the Batman Beyond video
Dynaman21 f
Yeah, why did he feel the need to give it such a cold reception?
I want to find David J. Smith and hear more of his work, but Google gives me.. waaaaaaaaaaay too many results. Can anyone help me?
Search for "Ribbons of Blood" and "Dark Entwined With Darkness".... they are both on youtube. unlike this one that's a cover, those are both ones he wrote to SOUND like Steinman.....He does a good job doesn't he :-)
It was a joke...he just stood there vocalizing while someone died.
Go to the link in the description. You can find song downloads in Demos and Tributes.
...Actually, I have considered a parody style musical. With Rorschach singing his version of "Javert's suicide" But I don't have the resources or focus to pull off more than just one song.
This is cute, but I prefer the slower paced original demo version.
I'll kill everyone for mp3 in the best quality
Somebody please give me lyrics to that version of this song it sounds so beautiful
Is sheet music available for this version?? Much appreciated!
Any other covers of Batman the musical songs?
Me bro
Yet.
I like the original song much better.
Word !
Its half cover/half his own song
Not true. He sang about it.
where can i find this cd or see it
While Batman sang a woman died. And he did nothing. NOTHING!
Pretty sure that it’d be far from Batman to do anything like two blocks from where he would be at.
surprisingly not schwarbage.
I agree. Not because "it would make him lame" or something but because he is such a broken man. And not the kind of broken man who would want to express the hurt. He locks it away. Batman always avoids confronting himself with the pain of the past. It would simply not fit his character to sing at all.
Well he has a motherfucking dance called Batutsi, so the fuck he can't sing.
actully its shwei :V
Not that I know of. Sorry.
I like the idea of a Batman musical... but, seriously, I think that the Batman himself should NEVER EVER sing.
At least they didn't turn "Watchmen" into a musical
Worse. They've turned Watchmen into TV series.
Hear the screams of the mad and desperate - true. That would be the ones who listened to this after hearing the original demos produced by Steinman/Rinkoff. It's like the person who made this never ever never heard the original, nor any other Jim song. This is so bland and devoid of any of the passion that Steinman produces in his works. It's so very...pop-ish.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone shouldn't like it. Besides this one gives me more the sense of it's a reprise a variation of the song sung later in the play in this case the end
+jacob burt Nope, it's Batman's introductory song. However, where it's placed in the show is irrelevant to the bland production, passionless vocals and uninspired arrangements. Again, as if the person singing, producing and programming the awful synthesized music has never heard Steinman's actual work, heard of Steinman or even Batman. And apparently is only vaguely aware of what a graveyard shift is.
Again that's one man's opinion and if you look around you're in the minority here
+jacob burt If it didn't matter so much, why do you keep responding?
I'm bored
a batman musical.... A BATMAN MUSICAL. THIS IS WORSE THAT THE BAT CREDIT CARD
YugiPoke1197 I'm guessing you've never seen the musical episode of batman the Brave and the bold
