A lovely film on a very important topic and very professionally made. I have one tiny criticism, however: the voice/music balance was out of whack. I could only hear what was being said by having the volume set so high that the music was enough to wake everyone else in the house - and, I fear, the house next door as well!

Thanks for the feedback! Mixing sound on headphones and then speakers is fine but until the vid is played on phones etc then it's hard to know what to expect. I'll bear that in mind for the next one and mix the music down lower and drop it altogether when there's the sound of steam trains as an alternative. Chris

So true about train travel being calming. I had a heart attack 10 years ago and had massive anxiety afterwards. I have an exceptionally clear memory a year or so after the event, on a train from Leeds to London where for the first time since the heart attack I felt calm and happy. It was the catalyst that kicked off an eventual recovery from anxiety. To this day I still take 'pointless' train journeys whe I feel the need to feel grounded. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

A train a day keeps boredom away..... on behalf of Master 3 who is watching this....
I had 10 years on the WRPS (NZ) Waitara railway Preservation Soc before we moved.. 7.5km branch line in its day..from main line to former port and freezing works, now a heritage line.. I haven't seen the famous line here, but been on the Spa Valley and the line based at Matlock.

Snodland! Love a local shout out, I met Geoff a few weeks ago and heard that story, that made by day, and made it again hearing it in this video :D
The railways mean the world to me, my life wouldn't be the same without them, and the RHDR was instrumental in that in my early childhood when my grandparents would bring me. When things get tough, there are always trains; mainline, modern, miniature, model, steam, simulated, scenic, spectacular! Just keep playing trains!

The RHDR is 100% my happy place. The bench on the Romney Sands platform is where I used to sit as a child watching locos enter / depart, then heading back off to my caravan in the holiday park to tell me parents what engines I had seen. Sitting on that bench now brings back that same feeling of excitement and comfort, it really is my happy place.

I get a bit of ribbing for being a railway buff, but I'm thick-skinned enough to not let it get to me. However, I do realise that some people are a lot more sensitive than me. So congratulations on such a great video, with a positive message.

A very enjoyable video with an excellent message. You do make friends on the railways, and keep the memories too. Playing trains IS great fun. I have visited this wonderful line quite a few times since the 1960s and think that it is probably the best attraction in the area.
(My only quibble with this video is the overbearing music. Let the trains and people provide the sounds.)

What a fantastic production! This just proves that if you are wanting to be involved in a railway don't hold back, do it. Everyone who volunteers will quickly realise everyone who is there is there for the same reason. The feeling of being involved, appreciated and valued helps everyone's self-esteem. The RHDR is a happy place to be and indeed the many other heritage railways are, you will always have friends. So many other heritage railways produce films that are about engines and yes, they are important, but it's not all about locomotives. Heritage railways are run in general by people giving up their free time to be be with other like-minded folk from all different areas of the community and different life experiences, trains are secondary. Well done guys a brilliant film.

Great video!! I was looking to buy a house in the area and as a naturist was always careful to check round the gardens for privacy from the neighbour's windows etc. I had found a lovely house and the garden privacy check was going well - then a RHDR train passed the end of the garden!! Oh well, on to the next possible property...

My wife and I had a wonderful experience over the summer of taking a fairly train oriented trip (there were a few ferries, planes, buses, and one car involved too), and I loved the experience. I met so many staff who were quite willing to share and express their pride and excitement about trains. Most passengers I met were quite friendly and outgoing. I cannot think of any other mode of travel where I have had so many wonderful conversations with such a broad range of people. Then there is the joy of seeing so many beautiful parts of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland (sorry Wales, you're next!). Before this trip I had been on one train trip outside of London (to Brighton in the 80's), but the whole trip was an incredible, happy experience.
For those that are interested, I will list the things we saw:
    Caledonian Sleeper to Inverness
    Far North Line to Thurso
Inverness to Edinburgh (not on the Sleeper)
Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway (my artist wife didn't realize how fascinating rail liveries are until we went to the museum)
    Edinburgh to Glasgow
The Enterprise train from Belfast to Dublin
    The Lartigue Monorail
The Elizabeth Line from Woolwich to Paddington
Heathrow Express (which I never take, but we were pinched for time)

Thank you! I haven’t been so unexpectedly teary-eyed since the Queen died (and before that the emotional postscript to Geoff’s last video during the opening week of the Elizabeth Line). I do feel that something has changed in the attitude of the general public towards railways and railway enthusiasts in the past few years - maybe Covid has helped people understand and identify the things that are really important to them.

Such an important message put over so clearly in a fun way. Getting out and doing something different, with a bunch of like minded folks, really can make a difference.
For me it's also so rewarding, when you get to see the faces of children who have a steam train ride, some for their first time... how so enthralled they are with the sights, sounds and smells etc. Without volunteers- it simply wouldn't be possible.
