- Vin Scully and John Madden call the game for CBS Sports. Satellite feed keeps running without commercials. It's a unique prospective of what goes on behind the network scenes.
Superb recording Richard . Thanks for preserving so many examples of authentic football. History has never been more valuable to know than now.
That's for sure.
Vin Scully and John Madden: Two absolute legends of their crafts.
That Redskins/Giants rivalry was one of the greatest in sports - now it's just part of the history books
The golden age
Thank you so much Rich, will enjoy this one after work time)
Cool. Thanks for posting this Richard. I haven't seen Scully and Madden together before I don't think.
they have.weekends pat summerall either did us open or golf vin scully would fill in.tom brooksheir summerall fmr partner would do games with scully partner fmr chiefs coach hank stram
What a great video. I was born in 81 so this is absolutely amazing for me
Such crisp clean recording.
RIP Washington Redskins
RIP pro sports, cucking to marxism
i agree rip
Scully and Madden...how rare was that broadcast pairing. Summerall must of been broadcasting The US Open (Tennis)
RIP Both Madden and Summerall
Sat. feeds are always really cool. You really get a sense of if the announcers like each other and the inner workings of the whole production. I wish there was a truck feed of a recent vintage game floating around. I'm sure it's a lot different. Even so, they've cut out the mics. I have a MNF game from the late '80s which is also a truck feed but they cut the mics.
This was also still in the earliest part of John Madden's broadcasting career. He'd gone into sportscasting in 1979 but didn't have a permanent on-air partner until Pat Summerall. CBS had decided to do a series of tests and they had John alternate between Vin Scully and Pat Summerall to see which play-by-play broadcaster seemed to blend with Madden on-air. I think Vern Lundquist was also one of the broadcasters that alternated with Vin and Pat. Eventually CBS decided to pair Pat Summerall with John Madden and they remained a broadcasting partnership on CBS through the 1993 NFL season and then they joined FOX and stayed there until the end of the 2001 NFL season. From 2002 until 2009 John and Al Michaels were paired up, first on ABC and then on NBC.
This is awesome, Richard. Thank you.
You're welcome Jimmie!
Excellent quality!
"Big John!"
Thank you!!
Hard to believe how bad Phil Simms looked before Parcells and co arrived. Granted, he didn’t have any weapons.
i can imagine that you have more Giants-Redskins matchups from the Giants 1986, 1990, 2007 and 2011 Super Bowl seasons and the Redskins 1982, 1987 and 1991 Super Bowl seasons.
Just before Madden got paired with Summerall. Great to see the satellite feed with their comments between commercials. Also great to see the National Anthem be respected and observed at the beginning. We had de-segregation and now re-segregation.
Summerall was covering the U.S. Tennis Open that week. It used to be on CBS, now on ESPN/ABC.
@@donaldcasalone4243 oh great to know that. Scully's last NFL season broadcasting. The Catch was his last game. He and Hank Stram.
Thanks to Black Lives Matter, Antifa and The Liberals.
@@mrg8581 exactly. Glad you're tuned in to truth.
Thanks again for another great upload. I've got the entire 1982-83 super bowl tournament for the redskins, but I can't find the Redskins - Lions first round game (Jan 8, 1983 at RFK). Have you seen/found that one?

@@survivor5044 Amazing. Thank you sir.
@@survivor5044Thanks Richard.
At 40 minutes in, John Madden takes about firing Joe Gibbs when the coaches together at San Diego state. Love these little stories from these old games.
This looks as good as my 2 DVD...very nice looking...thanks ma man! GOt lots and lots of Saints games in the last years....any you are looking for?
Hey ramsareit! Good to hear from you! I'm still looking for Saints at Rams 1981 week 10. Or Rams at Saints 1980 MNF week 12. Glad you like the quality of this game. Whoever recorded it did a great job.
you don't think that this announcer called big john will amount to much
I don't think I've ever watched a more entertaining scoreless half. Clearly the Giants' offense sucked but their defense was turning into the destructive force they were for most of the decade. Washington had two scoring chances and failed them both. Giants had more turnovers than first downs. Love those games you could pull off the satellite dish before the networks learned to scramble them (those wild west days when guys got the satellite coordinates and tuned in out of town games at the bar pre-Sunday Ticket). Vin says at halftime taking off his headset "What a whole bunch of nothin!". Madden complaining about his monitor, a defensive end playing the gunner on punt coverage and a punt returner with a heavy cast on one hand. Great entertainment.
Yes sir
Rich, do you have any game between Giants and Eagles 81-84 seasons. Want to see it so bad, hope we will get any of that game soon. Thank you as usual
I have Eagles vs Giants 1981 week 1 at Giants Stadium. Will post later today.
Richard Waldrup That would be mind-blowing) Awesome, just awesome
@@jenyakostak7639 Richard is a really cool dude!!
TheStoneOfSisyphus Do you have the 83 game against Houston or the 85 game against Indianapolis?
TheStoneOfSisyphus Thanks for taking the time to respond. The Indianapolis Tampa Bay game that you might be thinking about is from 1991. That was missing for a long time but emerged somehow from an Indianapolis source. A 2-13 team versus a 1-14 team fighting for the first round draft choice in week 16. Repus Bowl!!
back then pat summerall was on golf the same weekends. vin scully made a great replacement even though before leaving to nbc scully called 2 nfc championship games on cbs including dallas.
This pairing was part of a “competition” to see who would work with John Madden. John Madden was made the #1 color man in 1981 but CBS had to decide to would work with him full time. So it was decided to have Scully and Pat Summerall do four game each before. Making a decision after wee eight.
I want a highlight video of Dexter Manley playing special teams.
LT was Superman
Defense and specials-both sides❤
LT was so great he could beat Bird, Johnson, and Jordan in a handicapped basketball game.
Vin Scully and John Madden
Wow
Scully was the Dodger play by play
I wonder if this was a good commentator duo
I liked them
Thanks rich football classics .had a question have u been to canton hof yet? Im planning a trip after all the c word stuff is over. Lt. Was a crazy hitman never will u c it again the 80s my favorite era of football
LT cost a lot of offensive coordinators their job.
Vin singing the National Anthem!!
Lol yeah I heard that. Those days are over.
Do you have 49ers vs Redskins 81? If not i would understand.
I guess it's a lost game
You can see Gibbs started out with a totally different Offense than he ended up with. Riggings and Washington together in the pro set... not for long.
Riggins gets 6 carries in this game. The same amount as Wilbur Jackson. By 1982 they transformed their identity.
What about that incomplete pass, when LT probably forced the fumble (strip-sack on qb)
Is Madden micromanaging the director ("Tony, let's get a shot of...."), or is this kind of involvement in production decisions typical of announcers?
Do you have the Championship game with the Redskins vs Giants in Jan 1987
That's is on the NFL do not post ist
@@crawford371
Really that is ridiculous also was trying to find my first NFL GM that I went to with my uncle back in October of 1981 it was the 49ers vs Redskins.
@@erichagan8992 a few posters tried to do it only to get it blocked every Time also includes the nfl championship the following season
@@erichagan8992 that's a tough one to find
Madden tried to fire Joe Gibbs when they both coached under Don Coryell. And watching these games you can tell how much he dislikes him
I would like to hear more information on this subject.
I didn't get that vibe watching Madden do a lot of Redskins games back then. Maybe there was an issue and they patched it up.
Know one kneeling!! When football was football and Americans were Americans!!
That's for sure.
Mark May at left tackle, bad idea... great RT and even RG, not LT material
"Big John" Madden. Haha.

No black national anthem? Asian?
No
47:52 a young, spry Dave Butz...
45:00 Manley and Gouveia father...
42:09 Gibbs right hand man seemed like it was Don Breaux for years on end...
58:38 pretty dope for a two yard return...
An hour in and I don't think Thiesmann or Simms has completed a forward pass...
48:50 Lavender lol..
Longest half of football EVER...
7:30 Manley on teams, bottom of the screen lol...
