  • Living in Canada, we have about 5-6 months of ever year that we have below zero temperatures. This can limit the truck camping season to only half the year UNLESS you have a heating solution. I’ve been seeing these diesel heaters over the past year and have decided to give it a try this winter. Since I want to keep the system portable for ice fishing and other adventures, I’ve had to rig up a custom system for my truck camping setup!!

You should build a hitch carrier for it and install it on that for using it

Only problem I have is that it’s way too hot even on the low setting… well when you turn it off to cool off then it pulls too much power to start it up again.

alot of people who do the case builds set up a return duct so you can recirculate the air instead of having to heat the cold air as much. have you considered doing something similar since? first video of yours ive seen, keep up the solid work.

Thank you! And a lot have people have mentioned this. Or setting it up inside and venting the exhaust instead. I may try it just to see what the difference is like.

I have a ARE shell on my truck with the side doors, I also am looking for a good way to breach a hole through the same area as you did. I'd be curious to see how the ABS works out without off gassing. I have a diesel heater like yours, considering buying a smaller footprint 2k heater and installing in a metal box under the bed of the truck and just running the vent into the back of the truck from the bottom. Depending on the hill I am parked on, I some time park on rocks to level out the truck. In this case it would change the final height from the ground to the hole in the side of your truck. Something to think about when you have the unit sitting on the ground. One big negative to just running just the hot vent hose into the back of the truck (besides being less efficient because you are heating colder air from outside) is that when the heater is off, you need to block the hot air vent on the inside of your shell otherwise it will draft cold air in from outside when the heater is off. Life is the journey have fun and please post a followup video after your first overnight, I will subscribe

Hopefully going to test it tonight and see how the abs holds up. And that’s why I liked the abs pipe because I can put the cap on to close it up when I’m not using it. I switched up the design a bit so I have an extra foot of pipe if the ground is off. May buy another one later and build it in. Just wanted to test it out first and I really want it for the ice hut ahah thanks for the sub. Hope to have video coming soon!!

@@castawaytv If you left the tailgate down and instead made a sort of semi permanent tailgate out of plywood, do you think you could rest the heater on the tailgate, pull the canopy lid down and run the heater that way instead of having a long pipe going to the cab and instead of drilling through the side wall of the canopy? I figured then when you're done you can fold the tailgate in as the semi permanent gate is inside of the box a little bit.
