  • On June 19, 1865, Union troops appeared in Galveston, Texas, and decreed that all slaves in that state were free. This day became known as Juneteenth. After much struggle, in 2021 Juneteenth was declared a national holiday. This presentation will explore the origins of Juneteenth, how it is celebrated today, as well as how we can spread the spirit of Juneteenth to future generations.
