I bought this watch before actually visually comparing it to the Monochrome Tudor. When I took this Shellbaclk from its packaging, the similarities were immediately apparent to me. I have only had the Shellback for about a day now. I hope that it holds up. Because of the Selitta SW200-1 inside the watch, I will avoid hand winding it. The Shellback is a very attractive watch and I have not found any cosmetic flaws on my example. Thanks for your review, it was nicely done.

Great review, this watch has been on my buy list for while. I also normally prefer no date watches but the date integration on this watch can only be described as brilliant. For me I like the Tudor as well but it is definitely a hefty price tag when compared to this watch. The only parts missing with this watch in comparison for me is "small details" the in house master chronometer movement with anti-magnetism, the Jubilee bracelet, and the brand recognition are the biggest improvements with the Tudor. The question is if these things are worth the money. For some I'm sure it is, for me I see the value here and there are some parts I like more with this watch. The shorter crystal and slightly smaller overall dimensions, the bezel thickness which is thicker and easier to grip based on videos compared to the Tudor while also allowing for a thinner mid-case, and the lower price without sacrificing massive amounts of the quality of fit and finish. I've heard some challenges people have had with sellita movements but I haven't experienced any issues with them myself

Great review Toni as always! Amazing brand and the Shellback looks like another winner from the brand. Fantastic looking bracelet as well 😎 I saw on their website that the no date version was already sold out 😱

I could be wrong but I think when they reopened the pre-order today, only the date version was made available. I know I logged on their website right at 9:00 when the pre-order opened and only the date version was available for the white dial.

@@Andrew-ec9ir, that's interesting - it could mean that the date version dramatically outperforms the no date.

I understand that, generally, for every watch, more people prefer a date option to a no date option. That being said, I think those who prefer no date REALLY prefer no date. I also think the date option here is so well done and preserves the symmetry of the watch so well that even those who generally would prefer a no date option would be more inclined to accept a date function with this watch.

I love the Black Monochrome look. I am waiting for the Black no date which will likely arrive around the 1st week in August. I like the date or no date, they both look very nice.

One question: while I see the arguments that could favour Sellita, what was actually wrong with the Ronda movement? Personally, I would have stuck with only date options and the slimmer movement. Also, the change highlights that shaving a bit of height off the design would have been possible with a Ronda. For me that is always a noticeable advantage.
Once again your review highlights some crucial considerations and in this instance I especially appreciated the diverse wrist shots. Since before the V2 and perhaps with more conviction, I think the Shellback is 'a' watch I want, but with every review I also confirm for myself that it is probably not a watch that will suit me. So why would I want it? Well, because of all the reasons you laid out. Design originality, excellent execution, very decent price with a strong brand reputation with a growing attractive repertoire to match. The funny thing is, to some extent I concluded the same about their Windseeker. When seen on wrist, and especially in this more utilitarian black colour, the overall impression it leaves for me is still arguably too similar to other well-respected, sometimes dressy, divers, and like you, while I appreciate some of their designs, wearing a diver generally doesn't seem to suit me that much. So a diver that draws attention to the elements that make it a diver with a stark glossy black bezel and dial and large highlighted markers somehow ends up shouting from the wrist: look at my luxury diver! Probably exactly that is responsible for its success and appeal for many others. For me though, while I profoundly enjoy the look of the bracelet, it actually calmed me down when you put it on the rubber. Except for the clasp, it is so well done that it is hard not to want one, but I think it would be smart to let rationality prevail. Tusenö has made something desirable, but not everything desirable is also the right match.

I hear you loud and clear! ❤️
Not a diver guy myself, but this one is the equivalent of the “little black dress”. Damn it, why didn’t I think of incorporating this in the review! 😆 This, unfortunately, is the price guys like us have to pay for not being able to afford even bargains like this one…

Sorry, man, I just realized I haven't answered your question. Despite being just as accurate as the SW200, even thinner and with a couple of hours of extra power reserve, the R150 was, for some reason, considered inferior to the Sellita by a majority of clueless customers. On the other hand, only a handful of brands used it, which makes me wonder hoe much of their downfall was of their own doing. Anyway, last year the caliber has officially been discontinued...

@@themicrobrandexpert disappointing to hear they even discontinued it. As far as I'm concerned there is little claim any manufacturer can make above and beyond another. For me, it seemed, that the Ronda had a few minor advantages with the only disadvantage of being less known. Ultimately the choice is either super cheap and bulky with Seiko, premium with one of the ones that can be sold as Swiss Made, going with arguably dubious Chinese copies and complications, or sailing steady on the very affordable and versatile Miyota (ideally 9 series), with the apparently resolvable downside of the one directional rotor (which the considered premium LJP G100 also has, so how much of an issue is that really?). So far I'm cautious with Chinese, I've embraced the Miyota (arguably my loudest watch has an ETA, so there's that), and have thankfully good, slightly smoother feeling experiences with Sellita, where the SW300 pulls off looking quite attractive and feeling arguably still more smooth and solid.

@@themicrobrandexpert I must say, it has been a long time that I have not worn a black dress, and probably since forever that I do not have sufficient or correct capital to associate me with those wearing such a little black number! Yes,it would be so nice to be able to feel one can afford to buy everything that is undeniably good, interesting, and genuine. Still, even in that situation I might feel morally challenged for owning things that arguably don't truly suit me.

I've had this on my Buy list for a while... one day :) The design and nuances IMHO are on the level of timeless appeal of Tudor and Rolex. It's super hard to build a distinctive and elegant diver - seems like all has been already done and offered. But this is the example that there is still room for something new.
