  • Anterior knee pain, or discomfort that arises around the front of our knee can often get in the way of daily activities or doing the things we love. You may feel pain and discomfort in areas around the kneecap, and find movements such as bending or squatting, walking up and down stairs and hills, and walking for long periods of time uncomfortable.
This pain can arise from a number of things including a history of knee injury, weak or overused muscles surrounding the knee, instability of the ligaments, excessive muscle tightness and osteoarthritis. It is commonly seen in people who do lots of repetitive squatting or climbing, or people who overload their knee joints without the required strength or biomechanics.
Even though knee pain is common, it is treatable and able to be managed without surgery or invasive treatments. A progressive exercise program is the gold-standard treatment for knee pain and will allow for the structures within your knee joint to adapt to the loads required. Reducing excess body weight can also be recommended in some cases to alleviate any extra pressure on the knee joint.
