Would you still recommend swapping to Wailing Ward vs La Peste? Or just keep Phoenix Crest on?

Wailing Ward makes a big difference with him. Can be done Phoenix Crest too but less Yolo playstyle then :) have to play more careful on toxic clouds specially on the level 14 one that will spawn next week. I'd say do the swap for Wailing Ward when fighting lvl 14 if have very aggressive playstyle close range and take crew attacks.

Out of interest, what would you say is the best ship currently to upgrade? I have the barque, junk, sambuk all fully upgraded. But now I'm not sure which is best next

All are worth to upgrade for different playstyles but if ask me as my favorite after the ones you mentioned would be Brigantine or Brig.

@BlackHeart86TV yeah see I was thinking brigantine, but the build seems a bit limited to just flooding damage. So in 2 minds really. What about smaller ships?

Braced Gunwales why? Being anchored a lot?

Braced Gunwales since my early test on season start reduces damage more than suppose to and is still apply now but they will eventually fix. I played it and recommended on most my builds as is probably the most optimal defensive minor furniture for PVP in most builds and PVE against certain bosses. No, it does not need to adapt to an anchor playstyle, with the increased Deceleration you reduce speed ~2 seconds and brace before a burst from Bosses or Players.
