My thoughts exactly! And the only reason why I would think they wouldn't do this is so that camera manufacturers are wanting to give some of the business to those who make memory cards.
As Tony likes to point out: memory fails. And if internal memory is the only option and it fails then you've suddenly got a brick. Also, you can never upgrade to memory that's faster than what you already have. Having it modular has its drawbacks, sure, but it also has a huge advantage that can't be worked around. However, if the camera was capable of transmitting that data wirelessly (and RELIABLY...there are applications but they're clunky as hell) then you'd have the best of both worlds. I don't think any manufacturer has created a system that reliably transmits your photos to a laptop or desktop.
@@swistedfilms Agreed. Additionally, memory fills up. I shoot in the wilderness all the time and need to have extra memory with me for when I fill my high capacity cards. Shooting with dual cards gives me two backups every time I fill up and swap out cards. I couldn't shoot the way I do with only internal memory.

this folding screen dicussion drives me crazy. Sure all youtubers will tell you that a camera MUST have a fully articulated screen but only because THEY need it because THEY make videos of themselfes. The truth is that 99% of all camera buyers will never do even 1 vlog. For normal Video and Foto work fold out screens are much faster and more ergonomic to use. Why is nobody talking about that?
I don't do video, but I don't think I would get any camera that doesn't have a fully articulated screen. I don't use it much, but I see it as way to useful not to have available.
You are right, x1000. I can't even think about buying a camera without a foldable screen. This "fully articulated" screen is the worst fad in the camera industry. And it's done by negating the historical way of taking pictures in favour of a selfie accessory. I can't understand this.

$780 for crippled camera like that? Good luck with finding clients Canon! large RF mount will look huge on small body. Canon still doesn't want to upgrade small M50 to the standard we expect in 2022! I have just bought a mobile with 8k for £320
Totally agree ..I wanted one camera for travel at this price I will spend some money on a second hand m6 or m50 buy some third part lense and call it a day lol ...I feel bad for not going with Sony 2 years ago haha
Some internal memory should be in all cameras these days. It wouldn't have to be huge but it could deal with the frustration of grabbing your camera to take a quick shot and missing the moment because you forgot to put the card back in. With how miniature memory cards are these days, it shouldn't be that difficult to place memory chips inside a modern camera. Gosh I have a couple old early 2000's Kodak point and shoots that have internal memory built in enough for 24 images or a few minutes of video. If they could do it then, they can do it now.
8:28 Or you could get a Olympus EM5 Mark 3 with FABULOUS IBIS image stabilisation, High-Res Mode, view finder, weather sealed, focus stacking, focus bracketing and so on...with a light and awesome 9mm f1.7 Panasonic-Leica lens 130g
I have the M6-MK2. It is a great compromise camera. 33 mp sensor AND small, compact and lightweight lenses. [no IBIS] This R100 looks like the same camera. BUT, with a lower rez sensor and requires the bigger/heavier R mount lenses. The R100 is little more than a profit center for Canon ... to sell a camera that requires their overpriced RF, market restricted lenses. They need to bring back the M mount system and support it. But, that, of course, would be counter to profit greedism. I happen to love Canon color tech. Canon, however, only likes one color for those of us in the US - Greedy Green.
Yeah man. The M6II is going to weather for a long time as a great camera - even with just the few prime lenses available. I shoot execs and BODs with it and the sigma 56 1.4 with a dark CPL. The image quality is superb. Crisp and perfect, really. I travel with the M200 and I save most of my other "demanding" work for the R5. The death of innovation for the M line is a tragedy
Tony you should consult for canon. Your points were spot on. Knowing canon they will take the efm lens and covert them to the R aps-c. I hope the learn from the sigma m mount.
@@amrishrajkomar2744 still not as small of a combination as an EOS M camera with the EF-M 22mm F/2. I don’t think you’ve seen this combo to appreciate its size.
Wrong wrong wrong. I have an m100 just so I can sneak into those locations that say no professional photographers allowed. Also not be a target for thieves. The 22mm lens is a must, for sharpness, speed and size. I was hoping for a full frame sensor, but alas, the m100 may stick around longer. How many more years will Canon recycle the 80D sensor?
Hope it will have microphone covered by windsock just like sony ZV, it keeps camera really compact. And hm, what APS-C L lenses do we have? None. How about at least Sigma 30 1.4 lenses? Illegal! Stay legal, stay Sony. But yep, Canon need new vlogging camera in its lineup, it may take time to make L-egal lenses for it.
Seems like the viewfinder is the one real advantage that cameras will always have over smartphones. So really manufacturers should make them bigger and better and reviewers should stress them more.
I'm somehow confused about your thoughts about the card slots. An internal memory (128GB or more) is a nice add on, but should not replace the option of a swap out memory card as primary storage target. Maybe memory cards once will be replaced by internal memory only, but not today.
For me I really want a compact full frame sensor camera, Sony's A7C comes to mind. But I have Canon lenses and want to stay in that ecosystem. The R100 could be a good option, but again lenses are an issue too. No pancake RF lenses for a compact setup to always have with me. Is it too much to as for Canon to combine the Fuji rangefinder sizes, with a full frame sensor and lenses like the range finder days?
I say just invest in sony..I have the same problem..I have the r5 w/ rf 24-70 and 85 1.2..both lenses that's way too heavy for vlogging..I'm going to just bite the bullet and get the sony
Your comment about livestream kits being useless because few people will ever hook their camera up to their computer as a webcam seems really silly. Ever since Sodapoppin and Reckful used an ILC as their webcam back in the end of 2017, basically every single professional streamer will use an ILC instead of a normal webcam. It's the de facto standard for most midsize streamers.
Canon execs... "Let's hope this distracts from us killing third party lenses and screwing over our users like we also did with M lenses. This looks amatuerish compared to Fuji. But nice try Canon.
Great video as always but, until Canon allows 3rd party RF lenses, stop withholding technology, and just becomes more like Sony I personally am not going down that rabbit hole again. I purchased the M50 Markii and wish I purchased the A6400 instead for portrait and video. IJS
About built-in memory: as you often point out, *MEMORY FAILS.* If that internal memory fails then Canon will either be replacing it all the time or people are going to be cursing them for making a bad camera, even though it was just the memory that failed, or both. And as for your story about Uncle Jeff that's EXACTLY right! How many kids said offhand, "I think I'm going to learn photography." and Uncle Jeff was at Costco and got them a Canon T6. I've bought, like, 4 Canon Rebels dirt cheap on Facebook Marketplace from people who had used the camera a handful of times. So I totally feel that! And as for his ingrate nephews and nieces, well, they didn't want to learn how to use a proper camera. They want an iPhone because it just works. Ingrates.
The last thing I want is to pay an extra $100 to get more storage on my camera like on my phone. Storage full? That's downtime offloading gigabytes of photos and videos versus just popping in another SD card. Don't want the "hassle" pulling a card out? Just use the USB-C port to read straight from the camera if you want.
Honestly, don't see the point of this camera at all...regardless of the body, without any good affordable third-party rf lens or better Canon apsc lens that are fast. No one should get this. And another important point is that this is just not competitive in terms of image quality to convenience ratio to a phone...if Canon are trying to target the creator segment, this is not how they should do it
PEOPLE! Get out and buy any used m6ii available! Canon did a mistake when they released this great camara at too low price and they will not repeat this error again.
This is just the M50 with more expensive lens. Canon is trying to do higher profit margin projects as they lose market share and have to deal with chip shortages.
Tony, please stop asking for built-in storage for cameras. I don't want to pay camera makers marked up storage cost added to the cameras. Also I would really hate for camera manufacturers forcing me to buy whatever massive build-it storage if I don't want it as you've asked before like a 1TB storage but I use 32-64GB cards. It would turn into the problem phones have now that even finding a 64GB phone is a struggle because most phones have min 128GB storage but I don't need it and don't want to pay for that storage MODULARITY is the key!!!
I greatly disagree. I want my cameras to have some build in storage, even if I don't usually use it. I was a little upset that my M50 didn't have build in storage but my point and shoot camera did. I always want to be able to take pictures over the rare chance of me forgetting the memory card/card is full/corrupted and then not being able to take pictures.
@@arthurmarshall6825 Then what you want isn't necessarily built-in storage but a way to access files without removing anything. And that could be possible but no manufacturer has created a system that quickly and reliably allows that. You may want the peace of mind that built-in storage provides but what if that memory fails?
@@swistedfilms Um no, I want built-in storage as backup for memory cards. And I don't see your point about what if built-in memory fails? Are you trying to say if there is a chance backups could go bad they are not worth having? Do you also think having dual memory cards are pointless because the second card could also go bad? Ultimately if your built-in storage fails you send it to the manufacturer to get it replace or go without it.
@@arthurmarshall6825 Let's establish that I'm talking about a camera that ONLY has internal memory, not a camera that has internal memory AND card slots. If the camera has both then that's fine. I'm not opposed to that. But why would a manufacturer include both? I think what everybody really wants is a way of offloading the files without removing the cards at all. And that's fine, I'm on board with that. But here's the thing: if you can offload the files without removing the cards then you have no reason to remove the cards and you have de facto built in memory that, if it fails, can easily be replaced. So to answer your question: I'm not thinking about internal memory as backup memory but as primary memory. In fact, the ONLY memory. If that's not the case then what the manufacturer should offer is a way of offloading the files without removing the cards and therefore the scenario about forgetting them becomes a non-issue, because the cards will never be removed. So there are two ways to satisfy everyone here: either have internal memory in addition to card slots OR provide a way of offloading the files without removing the cards and the cards become de facto internal memory that can be replaced if it fails. And no, I don't think that dual memory cards are pointless. I just think that we're not thinking about what the real issue is, which is memory in the camera at all times and how to achieve that goal.
@@swistedfilms I very rarely take out my sd cards from my a7iv, I transfer raws, jpegs and videos to my phone (with the app) for casual editing and sharing, and when I want to archive or do a heavier edit I connect my camera by usb c to my laptop and both sd cards appear. This is very convenient as I don’t have a usb c card reader that’s very fast, and the ones in the Sony are full speed obviously. Though I don’t think they should remove removable storage from cameras.
I never understand your obsession with "APSC cams are only allowed to use APSC lenses". you can easily put any RF mount lens on it and be happy. especially for live streaming stuff there is 0 issues to slap a f1.4 lens on there O_o. i know it crops in and doesnt show the quality of the lens like on a fullframe body. but its still 100times better than these kitlenses. the current RF 16mm f2.8, 35mm f1.8, 50mm f1.8 would be a great combo with a APSC cam like that. Even a sigma 18-35mm f1.8 works great adapted on a Canon Mirrorless cam(i know this lens is famous for focus issues. but that only applies for DSLR contrast based focus systems. with DPAF the lens focuses really well). So your example with "uncle jeff" at the end is kinda silly. just put ANY of these lenses on a R100 and it will blow your phone out of the water as a "streaming setup".
What really galls me with APS-C lenses is that they're never what they claim to be. If an APS-C lens says it's 18-35 f/1.8 then that NEVER takes into consideration the crop factor. The lens is in fact a 29-56 f/2.9. Which is still pretty good but isn't what it claims to be. You still have to multiply by the crop factor in spite of the lens being SPECIFICALLY made for APS-C!
As someone who spends most of its time on zoom meetings, a live stream setup sounds pretty great. Kids who just use their phone are not going to buy any of these cameras. These are for content creators who have a RUclips channel or a entry level photographer.
what! people definitely would live stream using the camera setup, people who play games on pc and consoles and want a high quality face cam etc, we use phones for other things while streaming such as chat and to also check on the stream! so its not ideal to have it as the camera!
You really need to stop pushing for more convenience features at the expense of everything else! Want to know what a huge mistake really is? No SD card but rather fixed built in memory that the manufacturer can lock and charge you hundreds of dollars to upgrade in tiers, like what apple started with the phones back in the day and other manufacturers followed suit. Plus, you know these things have limited write cycles and will fail relatively quickly on a video camera, generating E-Waste. The way you talk about content creators is like they are idiots who can't do shit with technology unless it's from an app on their phone! They are not! And that's coming from me, someone who dislikes the very words: content creator. If you want the workflow to all go through the phone, then freaking use the phone to film the thing and skip the camera all together, your workflow will be simplified even more and most expensive smartphones have good video features. The whole point of getting an expensive camera is to have more professional grade control.
And another suggestion to Canon. Curious, will it be able to power-on over USB-C? Any smartphone can do it. And i really hope vlogging camera wont have useless pop up flash, chances are slim, more likely it will )))
Do you know what other Canon camera does not have evf? The M100. It is going to be a very basic camera without many dials priced at around the same price as the M200

What courage it takes to say to the world that you have the sniffles. You are to be admired.
Canon should revive the EF-M 22mm F2 for R-mount APS-C. Such a great lense.
That is an underrated lens.
"Its now just camera to phone"
???? Uhhhhhh, no its not. Maybe for some strictly youtubers and similar content creators, but most people arent just content creators. We still process etc., and so will most beginners eventually. Camera to computer will still be the majority and its not even close
Just make both workflows fast and easy, it’s that simple
If it has a 24MP sensor and does not have a flip up screen, it's not an M6 Mark II replacement, it's an M50 Mark II replacement at best. To be an M6 Mark II replacement, it needs to at least match its specs. A Z30 competitor is not an M6 Mark II replacement.
Zv-e10 from canon with nobthird party lenses ... And no lenses for apsc rf... Yeah that's the best idea!)
Actually the M6II has 14fps mechanical and 30 in Raw Burst (Cropped). Anyways, thanks for the info :-)
Thx guys...great presentation.
Suggestion for one of your upcoming videos:
Please do a presentation for shooting astrophotography... comparing the Canon Ra to other cameras for astro.
Please also include cons for using the Canon Ra for non-astrophotographic purposes or situations.
Thx.
Umm the m6mkii shoots 14 fps and 30 fps at I believe 18 mega pixels burst.
this folding screen dicussion drives me crazy.
I still love my Nikon. All the bells and whistles do not make the photographer. Photography is all about Subject, Light, Composition, and IMPACT!
Sony ZV-e10 has 24 megapixels Tony ! Same sensor as the 6400 😎
I came here to say this lol

I'm 74 and learned to shoot on a Rollie so I use a digital camera's monitor looking down on it. I still have the Rollie but never use it, and I hate shooting on a phone, even though the pictures from them have gotten so good.
Why you young whippersnapper! In my day we made immigrants pedal bikes to power the Zoetrope! We would've killed for a Rollei! And oh to have an iPhone picture of Clara Bow! Old Warren G. would've loved to have a print of her in the White House! Harding always was fond of the gadgets.
Where was I? Oh yeah! I was giving you what for over being behind the times!
Just kidding, of course. Much respect to you. We see farther from standing on your shoulders!
Would have been nice if this could do 4K 60fps. The 2017 iPhone 8 and the Yi 4K Plus action camera had a 4K 60fps video recording mode and they were released 5 years ago.
The new replacement for eos 100d ?
7:20 - During the lockdowns and remote working, I'm pretty they were in demand those stream kits.
Hello I am an amateur photographer I have a few eos lens. I was using them with my eos M6 mark I planning to upgrade it to M6 mark ii but I saw r 10 so now I don't know what to buy. I do some car photography and personal hobby photos and videos with family. According to you what should I go for ?
Which camera cannot upload photo or video directly to a phone? Very slow but it's there.
Was about to say mine can't and google to double check. To my shock, yeah my camera can upload directly to my computer (don't care about the phone but it can do that too). My work flow just got so much easier.
So I acquired an Uncle Jeff when I got married a couple months ago. His name is actually Jeff too. He is awesome lol i totally get it
$780 for crippled camera like that? Good luck with finding clients Canon! large RF mount will look huge on small body. Canon still doesn't want to upgrade small M50 to the standard we expect in 2022! I have just bought a mobile with 8k for £320
Comparing with the m6 Mark II or even m50, this is not so much of an upgrade. It seems to be just an entry into RF mount.
I love the EF-M 22mm F/2. I'd be happy if Canon came out with a RF mount version.
Yes! Absolutely! 🥳
It's called the RF 35mm f1.8
@@amrishrajkomar2744 That does not appear to be a pancake lens.
@@imjooboy still a very small form factor with way superior optics and image stabilisation. Literally the perfect travel lens.
I love the story you told about the uncle.
It's exactly what I see when I am in an electronic shop abd people buy stuff making me cry
We all know how reliable internal memory is on laptops.
Just buy a Sony A7C or new version. Why stay in Canon the brand that hates off brand lenses where there are lots of tiny autofocus lenses for Sony
@@Chris-ey7zy Yah, maybe you are right. I just have so many Canon lenses already, it's just a mess all around.
I say just invest in sony..I have the same problem..I have the r5 w/ rf 24-70 and 85 1.2..both lenses that's way too heavy for vlogging..I'm going to just bite the bullet and get the sony
How many people do you have in your head Tony? (Say hi to Jeff for me.)
The ZV-E10 has a 24 megapixel sensor.
Canon execs... "Let's hope this distracts from us killing third party lenses and screwing over our users like we also did with M lenses.
This looks amatuerish compared to Fuji. But nice try Canon.
Hey Tony, has that new iPhone arrived yet? Is it as disappointing as you thought after the Apple keynote?
Keen to see a full camera review.. 🎉
Ingrates.
Poor Uncle Jeff 🤣
The last thing I want is to pay an extra $100 to get more storage on my camera like on my phone. Storage full? That's downtime offloading gigabytes of photos and videos versus just popping in another SD card.
Don't want the "hassle" pulling a card out? Just use the USB-C port to read straight from the camera if you want.
Thank you for sharing this very useful and useful video.. greetings from traditional Indonesian gold seekers ❤️🇲🇨⚒️⛏️🌺🌻🌷✋👍👍
lol.... Loved the uncle rant, Tony.
It's posible to go around the computer and edit raw photos on your phone with an OTG adapter and a SD reader
Or just transfer the photos through the app, unless canon doesn’t do that
This is just the M50 with more expensive lens. Canon is trying to do higher profit margin projects as they lose market share and have to deal with chip shortages.
I wish they'd hury up with the R2 or RP2. And get well soon Tony.
I love the Jeff narrative!
It would turn into the problem phones have now that even finding a 64GB phone is a struggle because most phones have min 128GB storage but I don't need it and don't want to pay for that storage
MODULARITY is the key!!!
HA! "No young photographers use the viewfinder". I'm 24 and every photographer my age uses a viewfinder. How much younger are we talking about??
Uncle Jeff - heart of gold, brain of mush
As someone who spends most of its time on zoom meetings, a live stream setup sounds pretty great. Kids who just use their phone are not going to buy any of these cameras. These are for content creators who have a RUclips channel or a entry level photographer.
I have an r6 but I want a smaller camera to travel with and using the sane rf lenses will be great ..but man canon needs to step in with better specs
Haha Jeff. These cameras are also for pro Canon shooters who like to take a smaller camera on holiday.
Just 1 question: 8 bit or 10 bit? Overall I am not impressed. It really as nothing over the Sony ZV E10.
ZV E10 has 24 megapixel sensor btw
Hi Tony. Thanks for the video. Fuji Rumors next please: "The Fujifilm X-T5 dominates our dreams and desires." Hope to watch it soon. 🙂
what! people definitely would live stream using the camera setup, people who play games on pc and consoles and want a high quality face cam etc, we use phones for other things while streaming such as chat and to also check on the stream! so its not ideal to have it as the camera!
Uncle Jeff who buys it in Target also doesn't know that the kids can't put third party lenses on it. Oh dear
Canon kills M system. Canon kills off camera brand lenses. Canon kills itself
Without viewfinder and IBIS sos build to be a cheap APS-C mirrorless camera and that is not bad at all.
And another suggestion to Canon. Curious, will it be able to power-on over USB-C? Any smartphone can do it. And i really hope vlogging camera wont have useless pop up flash, chances are slim, more likely it will )))
Why wouldn't people get the M6ii instead to use the Sigma 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm if Canon doesn't want the third party manufacturers using its mount?
Or would that make me an Uncle Jeff?
Do you know what other Canon camera does not have evf? The M100. It is going to be a very basic camera without many dials priced at around the same price as the M200
The Sony has a 24 MP sensor
That rant was hilarious and totally explained my life as an uncle 😂. Absolutely not buying my nieces this. 1 they wont use it. And 2 they will break it in days
