Looking for clues why my 2007 1.3 cdti combo van wouldnt start the next morning. Money light was on and code P0400 EGR flow. Was sceptical until I watched both your videos. 1. because like yours, it sounded like it wanted to go and I'm thinking fuel prob. 2. I would also never have imagined a stuck open egr valve would cause a no run. Anyway took it all off, valve stuck open. Cleaned egr (good as new literally, with oven cleaner gel), solenoid tested good, cleaned the recirculation pipe that bolts to inlet manifold (pretty bad, only one hole open), reassembled - start first turn. Brilliant videos Matt youve saved me a small fortune. Thanks, Martin.
Super impressive methodology. Your clarity of mind and tenacity is a rare quality. I have very little time in the Diesel realm but that was interesting. Cheers Matt
Thanks for that, I think also the availability of diagnostic tools at affordable prices ( if you don't using the cheaper stuff) helps take the guessing out of it. Thanks for watching.
That is what I was thinking too, I was thinking until it was running it wasn't really exhaust gases so it would run for a second until it choked it's self. I think injecting fuel also on the exhaust stroke when cranking, like it seems to do, didn't help it get the required oxygen to run. Thanks for your help it's really appreciated
I was surprised it would cause a no start too, was thinking a start then cut out. I noticed during cranking that it injects 1&4, 2&3 at the same time, so the injectors are firing on the exhaust stroke cranking, I think with the glow plugs being on it may be like four vaporisers that are filling the inlet manifold with diesel vapour. Thanks for your help Dave
@@mechanicmatt871 yeah could be, i put the 1.9dci one down to the inlet manifold filled with inert gas and no oxygen. I just pulled the whole egr valve out of the manifold and it started right away
Wow! well done and thanks! I know its a while since you posted this but we have the same problem but despite trying to convince my other there is a problem that is not because its cold and damp and not going on long enough runs, I was not heard!! However, after deciding to do some investigating myself, I found 2 of your posts! Result! We now agree there is a problem other than the battery needs constant charging! Booked into the garage in couple of days so fingers crossed...(with all the info seems a shame not to do the work at home but will leave it to the experts or we will end up with 3 screws and a plastic item left over!) He is great in other ways but vehicle upkeep not being one of them! Many thanks
got the same combo recently, and found out that it needs a good battery to start, below 12.4V mine had difficult starting. (startermotor good as new) might try a new maf as wel, mine was 3.2Kohm engine off
Thanks Toyo, having a diesel not start at all due to an open egr is new to me, usually it will start then run badly and cut out. I enjoyed the case study. Thanks for watching
Am really baffled. Am replacing turbo on my 2007 1.3 cdti combo van, and it suddenly struck me there is no O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold, the cat or Pipework. Am I missing something. Autodoc have a pretty good cross referencing system on their website for parts and they dont list one for my van!! I've done a lot of searching online and am very reluctant to contact you this way with my issue, but as I say I'm baffled. Martin.

It caused a bit of head scratching, with the engine not starting from an open egr, I think most people including myself were thinking that would cause a start then cut out problem. I think the injectors and glow plugs were like four vaporisers with the smoke going straight back into the intake manifold I still have an intermittent problem with the MAF sensor loosing it's 12 volt supply. Thanks for watching and your help.
shame you you didnt show removing the alen key bolts at the back of the EGR Im trying now and cant get any bloody tool back there to try and open it, wifes car has exact same symptoms som im hoping its this, Hate newer cars all my own are old and always work, modern tech aint all its cracked up to be in all senses
Yes, try cleaning first, it it works, that's fine otherwise replace it. In this case the customer decided to blank the egr, and it worked ok. Cheers Matt
Is your car cranking? I usually start with a battery check, and a full system scan. I look at any fault codes to help point me in a direction, if it doesn't have any fault codes I look for something mechanical. The diesel corsa has an intake valve Thad the combo didn't have and if it is stuck closed the engine won't get the air it needs to run, this one is easy enough to check it's at the start of the intake manifold.
Yes that would stop the engine starting if it's stuck open. The other thing worth checking is the ECU it's self that is known to get corrosion from water damage. It's located under the wipers.
That's not good, what made you change the sensors, were they faulty. If there is no fault codes, check the live data on the scan tool. See if the fuel rail pressure is at least 250 bar. Check if it is fitted with a valve in the intake manifold that it is not stuck closed, also check the egr is not stuck open.
@@mechanicmatt871 Trying to get to the intake and EGR got the diesl filter housing right in the way and an absolute nightmare to get at the torx bolts, I am going after those next, I had codes that said crank sensor communication issue, cant find my ready anymore more either to rescan and clear, its been at least 5 months the bastard engine wont start.
HELP PLEASE. Any of you guys here's my problem. Park my vauxhall combo on the flat overnight. It will start in the morning but will only run for 25 secs before running out of fuel and cuts out. However if I back the van up on to a high point so the van is raised at the rear it starts and runs without a problem. Also if the tank is over Three quarters full it starts on the flat no problem. Any ideas please.
Hi there, the combo can has an electric pump on the tank so it should manage to provide fuel. I'm wondering if it's an electric wiring fault, at a certain angle the bump stops working.. maybe check fuel pressure with the car parked flat.

Good one Matt but highly unusual, stuck open egr 'usually' start then stall immediately once the diesel is actually burned! Good find cheers sandy
