What do you think about this Reolink Video Doorbell and the Home Assistant automations? Let me know in the comments! NOTE: since the new Home Assistant release 2023.2 there's an official Reolink integration now that supports this doorbell as well, so you do not need the HACS variant anymore!
This looks amazing! Fed up of slow response and frequent charge requirements of my original Ring. Was thinking I’d have to spend loads of money on the Ring Elite to get POE, but glad I hesitated this option is much better and cheaper!
My wishlist for this doorbell: 1: Allow activating the “quick replies” from Home Assistant 1: If you want that as well please ask Reolink to enable it in their API. This has many uses. e.g. when you can configure home asistant to send you a notification with a picture when someone presses the doorbell (or even when it detects a person) and the notification can have several options that you can click on for what the speaker should say (e.g. leave the package at the door). face recognition: When the camera sees a person I have Home Assistant send me a notification with a screenshot. I’d like to be able to not send me those screenshots when it’s my wife etc. Not sure how to do that. 2: Allow activating the alarm sound from Home Assistant: 3: 2-way audio: would be great to have this working in Home Assistant and Synology Surveillance Station 4: Full integration with Synology Surveillance Station: (play custom sounds trough the doorbell, detect person, detect doorbell press, 2-way audio) (There's a form your can fill in to request Synology). Weird things about the doorbell: 1: Important information to make the Reolink work remotely with a VPN if you’ve blocked it from accessing the internet: by default the Reolink app adds the doorbell based on the ‘UID’ rather than it’s IP address and then it only works using the cloud once you have excited the app and open it again. To make sure you add the doorbell based on it’s IP address you need to delete the device if you already added it. Then disable wifi on your smartphone so that you are on mobile data. Then activate the VPN. Then add the doorbell using the option ‘input UID/IP’ then choose the IP option and enter the camera’s IP address. 2: This night the doorbell gave lots of person detection events (false as there was no-one) and no motion detection events. I don’t understand that as I thought a person detection event would always be preceded by a motion detected event. 3: When the doorbell switched to Infrared mode and vice-versa it seems to be falsely reported as a motion detected event. That’s a bit amateuristic.
@lifewithrob512 and am assuming all are integrated with home assistant, or else you would have to deal with 3 different apps when someone walks through all those areas ? ;)
This is the second home in which ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
I'm not sure you really understand the point of Home Assistant which is to make everything local. Ring depends on the cloud and is basically what I call subscription "bait'. Buy it, you want some feature and you have to subscribe to get it. It fits a large section of the market, it's just not for me.
I think the Falls cam dbw5 is better all around. It supports PoE and both 2.4 and 5G plus it has a genuine hardwired network video output through the RJ45 adapter.
Good things to know before you buy: when someone presses on the button, you get a push notification on your phone. Not a call like other doorbells. I find that a major annoyance. Also if you have bright lights in front of your house, the camera on the doorbell will compensate for that and you will barely see the faces of visitors. Otherwise it's a pretty solid device.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Yes. I recently tested tts in my mobile which sends voice based alerts for the texts we enter. This works currently in android only provided we have the companion app installed
Is it because you very well know that ring video doorbell is still one of the best out there why it was mentioned, rings is one of the best out there if not the best, I am using ring from its very insertion they have come a long way, people do your own research and make your own decisions
Nope, it's because I used the Ring Pro for over 4 years and the fact that's is not local and terribly slow makes it absolutely less good than the Reolink imo.
Thanks for this great tutorial Ed got it all setup and running without breaking a sweat :) One question though, how to avoid double notifications? After setting this up I get notified by both HA and the Reolink app when a person is detected. In the Reolink app I see no way to only disable the notification for person detection. Fully disabling notifications for the Reolink app also disables the option to talk when someone rings the doorbell, which I'd still like to use. How did you handle this?

You can control the volume of the Chime by pressing its button. Initially the volume goes up when you press the button. After the volume reaches the highest, it goes down if you keep pressing the button. Please note that the settings of the Chime can only be done locally; you can NOT control the Chime via App or Client. [from the website]
Hi ed. Have you tried hooking up the doorbell camera through NVR? mine is RNL8 410 which I updated firmware to latest version but still cannot make sensors to work in home assistant reolink official integration. It sees them but don't get "activated" in home assistant. I can see them in reolink app but not in home assistant. It seems to me there is an issue with video doorbell (poe version) when integrated through NVR
Great video- thank you! Does the Reolink Doorbell connect to a Reolink NPVR with Ethernet and POE? Meaning, can this act as another Reolink Camera on a Reolink NPVR where I have 4 other Reolink cameras connected?
Can the Reolink Video Doorbell PoE be connected to Alexa and the live stream video be viewed with two-way audio on an Echo Show 8 or the Samsung Family Hub 6.0??
I just received my new POE version of this doorbell. How did you manage to solve your reply, 2-way audio. Or do you accept the call by the the official app?
Bought this reolink doorbell based on this review. But i am very disappointed. The camera doesnt do a videocall in the app, just a notification when someone is ringing the bell. Second the videostream works only on wifi in the app, not on the data.
It says you can access footage with rtsp and onviv. Home assistant now supports these natively. You can add a camera from the integrations page. Setting a permanent ip to the camera in your router. Then access it with an onviv video stream. You should be able to access from anywhere with nabu casa
Hi, since the Update 23.4.6 Update i get the Error Message : Reolink webhook url unrechaeble and the ringing Event is no longer transmitted. Do you know how this can be fixed
I pre-ordered this product and received it recently. I got the wifi version. Works quite well. I was concerned about the view because my doorbell was mounted very low, like 3 feet off the ground. It turned out, the view was quite good and is wired angle to cover all the front entrance.
I was wondering, if there is audio when you integrate it with home assistant? ANd an option to have the audio 2 way? (found some old threads that say HA does not have those abilities, cause ther app is unable to process mic input, but now with Year of the Voice almost over, that seems to have changed).
Merry Christmas and thank you for your video. Question: I am interested in setting up the notifications with image to my phone based on person detection of a reolink 810a camera on an reolink NVR using HA. I tried to apply your instructions in this video for the doorbell but could not get it to work. Do you have a video for this? Is what I am describing possible just using HA? I am new to HA and have been trying to figure this out for some time. Cheers.
Hi! If you can trigger HA based on motion of your Camera, this should work in the exact same manner for your camera. You can test the action in the automation that sends the image to see if that works at least.
I pre-ordered and just got my POE one in the mail. I'm SO happy with it. I ran cat 6 to my door when I redid the entry and built a nice enclosure with plans to get the unifi poe doorbell but ultimately decided to wait. Good thing too! I love relinks other cameras and use blue iris for everything. All my cameras are poe and my switch is connected to a battery back so my doorbell will keep recording even if the power goes out
Just received my Reolink poa. Haven't yet thought about battery back up but do wonder how you arrranged the back-up of the TP-LINK 53,5V 70W power brick?
Well, you could always try doing it while standing on your head for a change! Just kidding. There's an official Reolink integration nowadays, but the stream view still works better with the generic camera integration.
screen layout changed too...stupid me not reading the comments before starting to execute the instructions. any how thumbs up for your efforts. groeten uit België
We bought the Reolink Wi-Fi doorbell camera to add to our other seven Reolink cameras. Oddly, it would record to the micro SD (128GB) but it would not present the Storage option on either Windows client. If we clicked Playback, it would warn us it had no playback...but once we confirmed the message, it would playback. We presumed it was defective and bought another one...with the same effects. All of our other cameras had the Storage option. After multiple days, we emailed support. The day that they replied, it suddenly had a Storage option and it now had the Talk, Audio Alarm, etc., buttons on the live video. I suspect something auto-updated, but I have no idea what resolved the issue.
One more feature I would like to see is a 2-way audio with the doorbell with button to turn on the microphone. Did anyone try setting this up? I have done some testing with Frigate and my other Reolink camera (not the Reolink doorbell). I tried setting up momentary microphone button for 2-way audio, but the results are poor. Sometimes it works, most of times it does not show the mic button, Frigate takes too much CPU as well... The doorbell should have Onvif profile T though and should support this better than my current cam...
In NL we have these stupid Golmar intercoms that have terrible documentation. By any chance, do you know if I can just install Reolink doorbell it with the existing wiring from Golmar going to an old button?

The link works it self, I can see the snapshot. But when sending it to my Samsung the snapshot-picture wont show up in the notice. What could be wrong?
@@SmartHomeJunkie Hm ok. I do work fine if I put the link in my browser.. its just that it wont show up in the notice! I did however instead used the link to the snapshot in the button in the notice and that worked =)
I may have missed this in the video but does it work with the existing hardwired chime? and will the video come up if you have a vpn on your device? That’s pretty much why I’m about to drop Ring. They don’t function with vpn’s anymore.
Can the Reolink Phone App connect locally to the doorbell? I have a Google Nest Hello; been a while since I installed it but it uses the existing chime (from memory I think it sends a signal down the power cable) so that is not an issue, but the ability to talk to the doorbell is variable. Most of the time I can but about 1 in 4 times the latency is too bad. It’s normally like a TV presenter talking to someone over a satellite link (if I am on wifi). The Home Assistant part was a pain too. I had to pretend to be a Google Developer. Think this is supposed to be getting better. Would consider this if the reolink video is local. Or maybe you can send the video from doorbell to home assistant and from HA to the phone HA App and this is quick enough? The other thing that annoys me with the Nest Hello is the wifi antenna sucks and it disconnects for a few minutes every few days even though I can stand there with my phone and the signal is fine. Is the wifi signal good? I also have a Reolink Wifi outdoor camera and the wifi sucks at 2.4GHz, but works well at 5GHz, so the opposite of my expectation and something it took me ages to discover. Also have they said it will be matter/thread compatible? The Nest Hello I have talks to other Nest things without wifi, so I think over their private thread/weave network but it can’t do Matter.
According to this article the reolink cameras connect to the app even if you do not have an internet connection: support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007170094-Can-Reolink-WiFi-Cameras-Work-Without-WiFi-or-Internet-Connection In my house, the WiFi connection is reliable and the response speed is very fast. I must say that the doorbell is close to my router.
Hmmm im not convinced how this is better than ring apart from subscription? Can you tell me some examples of things this can do better than rings? Couldnt an intruder just take the sd card and leave this flawed? Where is the sd card stored?
Do I understand that right that the with SD card the video is stored on the doorbell OUTSIDE of the house? Why would anyone want that. Your doorbell can be stolen with all the video without entering the house.
I have small house with 3 separate appartments, how can I use this, so caller on front door can choose which appartment to choose? Or i need 3x devices (with 3x PoE cables) in same LAN network, heh :/
I have the POE version. No wifi delay ! If I want to be picky, a fast login via fingerprint sensor would be quicker than punching in a 4 digit code . But in all other respects, it definitely ticks all the boxes. It is very easy to set up. The app works great. On the first day , I was able to talk to my postie to arrange a parcel redelivery, as I was away from home. Good price 👍
Thank you for this tutorial, but no matter what I try I can't get my doorbell linked in Home Assistant, what am I doing wrong? I can connect via the IP address of the Reolink doorbell with my username and password. I use the same data to log in to Home Assistant, I have adjusted all the server settings as indicated in the tutorial, but I keep getting the error message "Failed to connect, check the IP address of the camera". Who can help me with this, thanks in advance?
It would have been ultimate if it had POE and WIFI in one. The WIFI version has a NIC so why then not just make it POE as well, that would have been ultimate all in one solution.
Hi 👋, Very interesting tutorial on the doorbell, I’m not very good with electronics and setting things up, I have been trying to find out whether you can link to these doorbells together as I have two doors that I need to cover with appropriate doorbell can I purchase two doorbells kits and have it set as one device, I’m looking for a monitor screen that I can see what is going on outside if my device is activated especially as I live in rural part of the French countryside, I’ve had problems with being burgled in 2019 losing over €15,000 worth equipment and tools and ride on lawnmower et cetera, And I have had people snooping around at night time and in the early hours in the morning, So the big question is can I activate two doorbells with one device and have a monitor screen so I can see what is going on outside do you recommend this device that you are reviewing or do you think I should go along a different route. PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN.
What you can do is send the footage of both doorbells to a local drive, NVR or survailance software on for instance a Synology NAS. You can also hook up two doorbells to Home Assistant and let Home Assistant handle the doorbells. For instance send a message to your phone.

Yes, a straight forward replacement for Ring, Reolink even have a replacement for the floodlight cam. Sick of not getting motion notifications from Ring until well after the event, if I get them at all. And the monthly fee.
Finally a doorbell that almost works. The plugin chime is a bit annoying. I'm still on the Ring doorbell and the Reolink is almost the thing that I was looking for in the first place. The video doorbell market is filled with devices that don't quite work.

@@SmartHomeJunkie Awesome thanks. Signed up to be notified of availability. Any word from Reolink on when they will be stocking regularly?
I have connected it to an RLN8-410 Recorder, you need to update the firmware so the NVR recognizes the camera, but it works great
@@ManfredRotgers THanks for the info. I will be getting one but looks like I have to keep looking for things to be restocked.
Can the Reolink Video Doorbell PoE be connected to Alexa and the live stream video be viewed with two-way audio on an Echo Show 8 or the Samsung Family Hub 6.0??
Would it support a horizontal mounting instead of this vertical type?
The mount kit supports horizontal mounting, but you cannot rotate the screen on your app or in HA as far as I can see.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Thanks for having looked into this. Regardless, it still looks like a great device for good value.
Hi 👋, Yes it’s me again not a question these devices compatible with iPhones and iPads et cetera.
PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE
Yes they are!
i think i will ditch me ring doorbell soon, no more cloud and subscription 🥳
I just received my new POE version of this doorbell. How did you manage to solve your reply, 2-way audio. Or do you accept the call by the the official app?
I accept the call with the official app.
Did anybody else lose IR light control in the latest update?
How fast does it connect from smartphone to doorbell? I’m thinking of switching but this is my main interest.
Just tested it. At my side it's 2-3 seconds, but I guess it depends on your network setup as well.
@@SmartHomeJunkie many thanks!
Quick question: you mention the WiFi version has UTP as well, but does it also support PoE? Thanks! :D
Nope, no POE on the WiFi version.
Would have been the ultimate Doorbell if it was a dual camera doorbell with a camera facing downwards that could actually show packages on the ground.
Yeah that 98 degree vertical view is a bit underwhelming, especially compared to the ring pro 2's 150 degree vertical, and 150 degree horizontal
I find it strange that a post company leaves a package at the front door.
Not ideal but mount a mirror somewhere when needed?
UNIFI doorbell does, also has HA intergration
I wish it would work with existing chime
this was just what i have been looking for. Im buying my first house and i have been looking for the right door bell. thanks!
That's great to hear. I hope you enjoy it just as much as I do! 👍🏻
hi, cannot get a working stream :( i got the error on generic cam - time limit
Interesting! I haven't seen that error before.
Forget about the doorbell, nice guitar collection i am jealous.
Thank you. Subscribed and liked!
I was wondering, if there is audio when you integrate it with home assistant? ANd an option to have the audio 2 way? (found some old threads that say HA does not have those abilities, cause ther app is unable to process mic input, but now with Year of the Voice almost over, that seems to have changed).
I didn't try it yet, but I think the Reolink integration supports two way audio now. Not sure how this should work tbh.
Please, explain a bit about that battery pack, thanks
This one vs dahua VTO2202F-P-S2? Reolink have a better design, for sure, but the rest?
the custom repo link no longer works
Is this still the way to do it ? or is there a update way ?
Well, you could always try doing it while standing on your head for a change! Just kidding. There's an official Reolink integration nowadays, but the stream view still works better with the generic camera integration.
Where in the hell can I buy one?
🤣😂🤣
yes ...
I need this reolink doorbell to scar my mother in law !!!
I believe you should do a review on the new ULTRALOQ Latch 5 NFC and come up with a way to integrated it into Home Assistant.
screen layout changed too...stupid me not reading the comments before starting to execute the instructions. any how thumbs up for your efforts. groeten uit België
Not interested. How stupid it doesn't ring my existing chimes in my house.
Bought one recently, in the process of getting it fitted. I’m new to home automation and gonna be getting a Home Assistant Green.
Nest and Ring a big time rip off products
In NL we have these stupid Golmar intercoms that have terrible documentation.
By any chance, do you know if I can just install Reolink doorbell it with the existing wiring from Golmar going to an old button?
What is your opinion on an entity state change triggered by a doorbell press? I am thinking to incorporate something like a Wi-Fi sonoff momentary switch to trigger a traditional 24 V mechanical doorbell chime.

There are similar options like Foscam VD1 since 2020. Also perfect HA integration.
The link works it self, I can see the snapshot. But when sending it to my Samsung the snapshot-picture wont show up in the notice. What could be wrong?
I had that at first too. In my case it turned out that used a wrong password in the link.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Hm ok. I do work fine if I put the link in my browser.. its just that it wont show up in the notice! I did however instead used the link to the snapshot in the button in the notice and that worked =)
@@SmartHomeJunkie btw, I noticed this wont work outside your home-wifi, right? Is there a guide to get it work even when not home?
@@Gladers. I think there are some guides on how to save the snapshot to the www folder so that you can show it even when you are away from home.
My Reolink doorbell occasionally gets unresponsive. Is anyone else facing similar problems?
What about sending the image instantly to a device such as an echo show when the doorbell is pressed?
Looks good, thanks. But no 2way audio?
Yes, of course!
I may have missed this in the video but does it work with the existing hardwired chime? and will the video come up if you have a vpn on your device?
That’s pretty much why I’m about to drop Ring. They don’t function with vpn’s anymore.
I don't think it works with an existing hardwired chime.
According to this article the reolink cameras connect to the app even if you do not have an internet connection: support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007170094-Can-Reolink-WiFi-Cameras-Work-Without-WiFi-or-Internet-Connection
In my house, the WiFi connection is reliable and the response speed is very fast. I must say that the doorbell is close to my router.
Blink is a better door bell battery last longer . Better quality .
Hmmm im not convinced how this is better than ring apart from subscription? Can you tell me some examples of things this can do better than rings? Couldnt an intruder just take the sd card and leave this flawed? Where is the sd card stored?
Did you watch the video? Everything is local. This is a BIG PLUS. Ring does not have that.
Do I understand that right that the with SD card the video is stored on the doorbell OUTSIDE of the house? Why would anyone want that. Your doorbell can be stolen with all the video without entering the house.
I get your point. The camera can also send the footage to your NAS using FTP or Onvif.
Look, these kinds of instructions are very instructive. People can do a lot with this. thank you for the time in this video!
I have small house with 3 separate appartments, how can I use this, so caller on front door can choose which appartment to choose? Or i need 3x devices (with 3x PoE cables) in same LAN network, heh :/
I guess you need three doorbells for this... :\
Create video. Only the snapshot sending to my phone, when someone is on the frontdoor, is not working jet. Can't find the problem.
The way I show it only works of you are on your local network. I might create a video on the future to show how you can make it work remotely too.
Great video tutorial, did you manage to get a full screen image on tablet? If yes can you make a video tutorial? Thanks!
I will create a video about that shortly.
When I see you have to use a browser to do the configuration, I stopped the video there.
As an ultimate video door bell… you overrated it.
You can do the config using the app too.
Does it work with Apple "HomeKit?"
Excellent video!
Thank you very much.
No, unfortunately not. See this: support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000628746-Does-Reolink-Supports-Apple-Homekit
Added my camera via ONVIF integration and tried your method and I get flickering. Seems other users are having the same problem
I didn't correct it via Onvif, but RTSP. I see sometimes slight flickering once every x minutes, but nothing that worries me.
I've had same issue. Got it working by unchecking the RTSP in Reolink network setting, save, then check it again and save.
@@woodcat7180 I'm going to try this, thank you.
@@woodcat7180 Unfortunately, I can't connect the Reolink doorbell in home assistant with your solution either
@@alexw1371 Did you try to update the firmware?
@@woodcat7180 Yes, I have the latest version: DB_566128M5MP_P
It would have been ultimate if it had POE and WIFI in one. The WIFI version has a NIC so why then not just make it POE as well, that would have been ultimate all in one solution.
I don't know. I guess Reolink has a good technical reason for this.
Hi 👋, Very interesting tutorial on the doorbell, I’m not very good with electronics and setting things up, I have been trying to find out whether you can link to these doorbells together as I have two doors that I need to cover with appropriate doorbell can I purchase two doorbells kits and have it set as one device, I’m looking for a monitor screen that I can see what is going on outside if my device is activated especially as I live in rural part of the French countryside, I’ve had problems with being burgled in 2019 losing over €15,000 worth equipment and tools and ride on lawnmower et cetera, And I have had people snooping around at night time and in the early hours in the morning,
So the big question is can I activate two doorbells with one device and have a monitor screen so I can see what is going on outside do you recommend this device that you are reviewing or do you think I should go along a different route.

Q did you find a way to integrate Microfon, Speaker and Relay with the Reolink Doorbell?
No, I didn't look into it.
Yes, a straight forward replacement for Ring, Reolink even have a replacement for the floodlight cam.
Sick of not getting motion notifications from Ring until well after the event, if I get them at all. And the monthly fee.
This is looking perfect for that spare camera license I have on the nas. Our maybe , just being able to store it in my nas is perfect
Finally a doorbell that almost works. The plugin chime is a bit annoying. I'm still on the Ring doorbell and the Reolink is almost the thing that I was looking for in the first place. The video doorbell market is filled with devices that don't quite work.
I used a Ring doorbell too (and still have one at my backdoor), but I like the Reolink more!
