That’s neat. For folks only running homeassistant, another great alternative is frigate. It’s designed to run as a container and to be integrated with home assistant, it can add any camera that has an RTSP stream. And it got updated recently to support TensorFlow on nVidia GPUs for super fast and local object detection.
Hey, what if only use motioneye with 5 raspberry pi’s & cams? I’ve found that due to the different cameras I use and different raspbian versions (buster, bullseye), I can’t use the integrated function within motioneye to see all cams on one page, it can’t find other devices, so I thought this scrypted might be an alternative…(I’ll have to setup home assistant now though, which I’ve never done.) Hope you can give any suggestions 👍
@@seethruhead7119 I guess there is nothing preventing that. You could use frigate for object detection and use frigatés restream fuctionality to feed the video into scrypted

Dude, thank you for this video! I never would have come across this normally, but this is incredibly handy. I have a mix of cameras on different services and had no idea I could consolidate them all into HomeKit like this. Super solid info and channel, subbed!
This is amazing! It also works really well as a Home Assistant addon, if you’re already running it. And the developer was also heavily involved with CyanogenMod in the past. What a legend.
Scrypted is Awesome. I was using tapo hacs addon in home assistant and that never worked properly. Scrypted works perfectly, I integrated with homekit with two way audio, recording on icloud. It’s just amazing. Thank you
Thanks for the video! I’ve been running Scrypted on my home network for about a year to put my cheap cameras into Apple's Secure Video. It has been solid! Highly recommended. FWIW I have been running it in Docker.
I found out about Scrypted last year when I was trying to integrate my TP Link Kasa doorbell into HomeAssistant. I ended up changing to a Reolink video doorbell (which is already supported in HA) but still use Scrypted via a Proxmox container for my Arlo wireless cameras and outside of the occasional need to restart the plugin it’s been great.
@@l0gic23 Not sure if it's Scrypted or due to Arlo requiring some sort of re-auth but I tend to need to request a new 2FA code every couple of weeks. Otherwise it pulls in all the features you see in the app and has been pretty reliable for the last few months that I've had arlo cams in there.
This is what I've been waiting for a looooong time.. I tried so many times to get my unifi protectin to my homekit setup, but I always failed. Now thanks to Tim, I finally got it to work. THANKS AGAIN TIM! I just have one question. Since scrypted knows the local login credentials does it mean, that it can be used by the developer of scrypted? Just concerning about privacy..
Thank you!!! 2 things 1) it’s open source so unlikely that code could sneak in. To be sure pin your container to a tag or better yet the SHA 2) it’s a local only account so they would have to have local access to your UniFi device
Great video Tim- all setup and working great with Homebridge/Scrypted/Homekit/Synology 1618+ //// Trying to figure out how to get the notifications working on the Apple TV 4K's in the house - Ai360 camera is the only slow to respond camera out of all the Unifi cameras- No doorbell Unifi cam- just G4 Pros and Ai360 -12 total. ANy hints on the notifications and pop ups/ PIP on Apple TV's would be appreciated.
Thank you for this. I’ve been trying to find a solution to get my camera into HomeKit so my partner can see them and feel safer. Home Assistant wasn’t bridging them but got them setup with this! Very easy to do thank you again. Love your videos.
Can’t wait to try Scrypted. I had 2 ring doorbells hooked up to HomeKit through HOOBs and it worked well for a long time until it started to repeatedly send alerts when someone rang the doorbell. It was like one alert every two seconds for a few minutes. I disconnected HOOBs and added then through home assistant - now I don’t get any notifications and if I ever do, the video snapshot is from a past event. So… can’t wait to try Scrypted. Thanks!
I have a ~15 year old axis network camera next to my front door. It’s so old, it only supports MJPEG as a streaming format. I wonder if I could get it to work with scripted…
Thanks for the video Tim. I have been running Scypted to connect a Wyze camera via RTSP to HomeKit for over a month on an old r.pi 3. The device always had some stability issues, so I did reload of the OS on the device. That didn't help with the low power issue, so I decided to try a VirtualBox install. I have two working, one with Ubuntu 22 and one with Debian 12. I wanted run this by you. When setting up the camera now in Homekit, the advanced features of recording, recognizing objects, etc. are not available on all 3 solutions - updated r.pi, Ubuntu, and Debian. In Homekit, the message for the added camera says "This accessory has not been certified to work with Homekit so some features may not be available." Do you think Apple has done a recent update to block adding cameras through a method like this? Have to you gotten this message before?
Looks great! Unfortunately, doesn't seem to support Eufy security cams or their HomeBase local AI/ML storage solution. I VLAN these off from Internet access and from each other, but Scrypted isn't quite there yet. I'll keep looking into it as the project matures, hoping that it will support the Eufy cams some day. I have 10 tocal cameras, homelab, outside and inside as well.
Unifi protect is setup in my home assistant. So all my cams work and act as sensors. I can get package/person/vehicle/smoke detection and fire alerts via home assistant. I cant even set camera peramiters via HA. It works amazing. And my unifi network integrates perfect too!! HA is amazing. I use my g4 pro door bell to sent notification to all my devices with a pic IN the drop down notification when a person is detected in a certain zone and my door is locked. This way i dont get false alarms constant when unloading groceries. And my front door locks automatically after 2 minutes being shut.
Thanks Tim for the tutorial. I tried it with my unifi g4 pro (I have 3) on a synlogy to connect them to HomeKit and it works wonderful. Not issues, been running for days now. I used homebridge before and it was a nightmare needing lots of reboots because it HomeKit secure video stops working.
I installed scripted on windows via power shell. I was trying to get my nest and google cameras on there.. can’t seem to find tutorials for it. Any ideas? I know google shut down their api but some how sterling home hub can get it to work so I assume it’s still possible..
This really isn't an application for all Home Hubs as described in the video. This is specifically designed for Home Assistant, Google Home, and Alexa. There is no apparent support for SmartThings or Hubitat. Also, the installation script that the author provides for docker-compose ends in "Error response from daemon: error gathering device information while adding custom device "/dev/dri": no such file or directory". So the simple installation script fails even on an Ubuntu Server 22.04 with docker installed.
Thanks for the beaut' video! I've been looking for something more to tinker with and adding my cameras. I have a few (ahem 10), like yourself. Very impressed by how easy it is to get them into homekit and alexa! I've got a whole lot of ONVIF setups for things here and there but I think this will put them all in one place. It's great to be able to see the carport camera from the shed echo show, for example!
Going to give this a shot! Is there anyway tk control the snapshot refresh image for battery ring cameras? My issue I found with HomeBridge (hence the look to move to this) was the 10 sec refresh causing my ring battery to drain! Anyway to control this better with this?
