But is she remotely intelligent enough to appreciate British comedy? I mean she probably likes Benny Hill because all of the sexual harassment humor reminds her of her orange god, but I can’t see her getting Red Dwarf or Blackadder.
How come, despite the fact they don’t get along, Lister always tries to comfort Rimmer when he’s really upset? Like when they were planning the fishing trip, or when celebrating his death day? He really is the most decent human being.
In the Red Dwarf book Better Than Life, Lister's perfect existence (achieved through a brain attachment of some kind) is like Jimmy Stewart's in It's A Wonderful Life, whereas Rimmer's is as a ridiculously powerful billionaire type. Arnold comes to realise how much more mature than him Lister is - the fact that his idea of happiness is so grounded and more modest than his own. Rimmer just HAS to fuck it all up for him, of course . . .
In the novels there's even a moment where Rimmer realises he's become a slightly nicer person thanks to Lister's good influence (he apologises to his double after their huge fight and the double sneers that the old him would never have done that).
Because Lister’s a great guy in general, he’s not a dickhead. There are people who drive me up the feckin’ wall, but I’d still comfort them if they were upset.
So this is the dimension where a semi-literate pro-dictator US elected official introduced me to an excellent British sci-fi comedy from well over 30 years ago.
He said in the opening episode that if Lister hadn’t smuggled the cat aboard and gone into stasis, Rimmer would have had help fixing the drive plate. I’d argue it’s Hollister’s fault for not ordering someone to help him or bringing Lister out of stasis temporarily to help him.
In real life, anyone who laughed at someone with gazpacho heated up would be considered a weirdo instead because its not unusual for people to prefer heated soup. For example, tea is usually served hot, but there is also plenty of people who prefer it cold, known as iced tea.
I know what you mean. I’m Australian and my roommate at Uni was English. We went out to the pub one night and he ordered a warm beer. I’d never seen it before, but apparently it’s quite common in England
I'm here for the Gazpacho police.. lol

You're not the only one who came here because of that.
Great minds.
Also red dwarf rocks.
Same.

@@StarShipGray She IS the comedy.
Congratulations on making old British comedy political. Here is your gold star 🌟 for being an internet twat.
This is funnier in the book, where they go into a lot more detail about the worst night of Rimmer's life, and is well worth reading.
The books are really well written. They have the space to be less funny, which works.
I’ve finished the first one (on audible), and it is really good, especially with Chris Barrie reading it!
Which book is it from? I’ve read a few of the books but I can’t remember.

Because there’s nobody else to. Cats’s a narcissist who only cares about himself and as a robot Kryten’s emotionally void

I'm rewatching because I'm eating gazpacho soup and before bringing it to me my partner asked if I wanted it cold or not.

This is also the dimension where that doesn't really narrow it down to which politician you could be talking about.
How the FUCK did the cast not shit themselves laughing while watching him deliver this?! xD
Gazpacho police!
Bruce Wayne had the right nobby parents, the right nobby butler and even he didn't know Vichyssoise is served cold until Alfred told him.
Ben Affleck’s Batman definitely eats Gazpacho Soup piping hot
Souper.
Haunted by hot soup but no thought for the fact he was to blame for the death of the entire crew save Lister.

It's not really that funny. Some people like it hot, I probably would prefer it hot.
