Yeah the Helix "brightness" would actually cut better and sound better in a mix. They knocked it out of the park with this one.
Never had any issues cutting through with my KOT.. personally, while the line6 version really actually does sound impressively close, that 'brightness' for me sounded a bit sterile and more like a digital lack of warmth.
I closed my eyes and I can't even distinguish when they changed from KoT to Helix, amazing!
Presence knob on the KOT is on the inside. Great job, dudes! This was sweet.

Line6 if you are watching; Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me the KOT!!!! It's been on my hardware boards ever since it came out originally (The real deal Bluesbreaker), my mainboard has 2!! Big piece of the puzzle. The Timmy has done OK as a substitute, but now it's there! Again. thank you soo much. God bless you and your future work. The extra features incl. more gain that the KOT has versus the BB1 is just awesome!
For what i've heard, i think the presence on the helix is making most of the difference. It brings more highs, a bit mor of a bite on the sound.

It's true! David Ryan Harris has set #1, Brian has set #2, and Bradford has set #3. ToneJunkies has set #4, and Curt Henderson has set #5. It gets crazy after that, haha. Tones sound HUGE guys, nice work dialing in that pedal!!
There are trem pots inside the KOT I think that’s why Line 6 included the presence control. They did great! Love this pedal. The 18v option is my favorite!!!
I have the hx effects and it’s like line 6 just gifted me a king of tone. How awesome is that in fairness? I’ve never played a KOT but the model sounds incredible to me. Sounds great with my blues cube artist. Keep up the great work guys and hi from Ireland 🇮🇪!
Helix does it again! The pedal that keeps on giving.
There is an EQ inside the KOT for each side. I use it to give a tiny bit more sparkle on the clean boost. I'm assuming that’s what the presence control is. Thank you for the video!

I was gonna question why you hadn’t done this comparison yet, since 2.80 had been out for 48hrs. But you guys are on top of your game! I thought the KoT sounded great when I first tried it. Now I know it’s because it’s a spot on clone.

It was so bad he took it down. He was nice to do that. The guitars were a mess. Chapman’s Crew holds a grudge. He literally took over TGU. Another man’s creation. Great guy. Yep. He also took his crappy guitars from shitty cheap store riff city. That guy opened 3 stores thinking he’s going to be making money off you followers. Rob gets a deal with GC which I’ve said I don’t blame him but all 3 riff city stores are now closing. Hmmm great guy. It’s all about the ego and money. I feel like line 6 did a great job with the tone sovereign. It’s really close to the original and in a band mix I don’t think you would be able to tell the difference!

AMAZINGLY close. Nice video guys. Bradford has an amazing ear. He and Jason Sadites should be exchanging ideas. Jason also has an incredibly ear for nuances.
You should have set up snapshots to switch your models/effects loop rather than tap dance! ;)
Cool, guess I got some downloading to get to. But backup first, right. I like how seamless the KOT pedal was going to the effects loop. The Helix family is so much bang for the buck. I have the LT and it's been great so far. Kind of wish I had the full Helix but I really haven't needed more than what I have.

Great job guys, wow! The yellow side is almost indistinguishable; the HX there has a tad more brightness, but I actually prefer the HX variant, ha ha! The red one is virtually identical (just a tad more compression/mid-range on the KoT), but that was so close! The bot-sides-on tone feels more articulate on the HX... Wow, Line 6 have nailed it... It's HELIX time!
And to think I was going to get on the waiting list....
It would be interesting to hear them both into the front of one of your tube amps.
I personally don’t think the Minotaur from the Helix sounds like a Klon, but this NAILS the KoT tone in my opinion.

I was able to hear the difference, as the Helix had way more high end, and the KOT had more low end. The Helix did sound great though!
KoT is a 3 year wait now. i've been on the waiting list for more than 2 years and i've got about another 6 months to go based on today's rate

The Helix sounded a tad brighter, which might have to do with it's buffer. Otherwise, it's pretty spot on.
yea, the point is that the models might be extremely spot on, but there is always something in the analog to digital conversion that modifies just slightly the signal, but damn this is so fucking close

By default the KoT internal treble trim pot is set fully ccw. Try 0 presence for a closer match.
FYI, you can buy a PoT directly from the Chinese subcontractor that sell them under the XinSound Sky Overdrive (RM-20) name on AliExpress and such for 30 bucks, or on Amazon for 60 bucks. I got one and it sounds fantastic. I’m not affiliated to AnalogMan, nor XinSound, and don’t sell any products, I’m just telling you this because not everyone randomly discovered (like I did) that CinSound was actually the Chinese sub-contractor for AnalogMan (something you won’t read anywhere on their website, you even have to dig into some posts somewhere on forums to finally say them say that only the KoT is made in the US and the PoT is made overseas (a.k.a China)).

I really thought the scribble on the yellow switch said "KOT-YOLO" for like a good minute. :D. Really enjoyed the excellent playing, too! (NTM that Suhr!). Seems like more depth on the real thing vs. more sizzle on the helix version. I'm so torn.
When KOT kicks in is the reason I prefer an HX Effects with analogic drives
The Newest Generation amp modelers have come a full circle...Helix sounds excellent along with Kemper......
After Pod XT live Helix is most important progression for Line 6....
The pleasant surprise is Boss GT-1000, Hotone mp-100 & GE300 all of which can generate pro tones....while lacking HX's open lows and convenience.
Yet somehow Fractal AX8 & AXE FX III has more low end and Mid range clarity....
Most interesting fact is Boss GT-10 & GT-100 along with Pod HD can come up with usable pro grade tones with proper tweaking..... so Fractal has the solution for near perfect modeling

I thought the red sounded identical. The yellow was fine, but the Hx version was a bit more 3d, but not in a better way. I prefered the real thing in yellow. And with both, prefered the Hx. : P
Ok...both presets.needed a toych of drive the tone cranked a little and that presence down a little...

In the heir apparent vs 1 side of the KOT I preferred the KOT for the low end sound, but for the both sides vs both sides I liked the helix better for the clarity.

Chad11491 I may not have been clear enough but I meant the KOT is made by hand whereas the POT is “printed”. Sure, same circuit but like I believe we said, people can hear a difference 🤷🏻♂️ that’s all we meant :)
@@bmitchellmusic not trying to be argumentative but they both use printed circuit boards with through hole components. exact same construction method. and the clipping sections are the same components too.
If you insert the KOT pedal in the Helix you're not comparing with the sound of the KOT in an amp. To be reliable a comparison should be the Helix into an actual amp vs the KOT into the same actual amp.
Not really. If we did that then there'd be way too many factors to take into consideration. It'd be a digital cab v a real cab. A digital mic v a real mic. A digital amp v a real amp. This may not be how you'd like to see it done but it served our purposes 100%. I use the KOT as my main drive and it feels and sounds pretty much the same being ran this way as it does with my rig.
Line6 Really nailed KOT, probably the most highly regarded od's yet didn't nail the OCB that well

the only difference is really a little bit less mid and more top end in the helix. Honestly though, with the addition of the presence, i'm sure you can bring that down and adjust the tone slightly and match it up even closer.

Exactly, same as PoT. Just saying. It all sounds great. this is the first time that one of these modeling deals has gotten my interest. Absolutely no way that I'm about to sell all of my pedals for a big computer though! :)

sounds almost the same but the helix produces almost with everything that harsh mid high ...which piss me off ..even on the video it's very noticible at 6:14 when they compared both with the same chord....and it's due most likely to the amp simulation...
so here's the trick....put the Xotic EP booster (called kinky Boost on the Helix) between the head amp and the cab and you'll get rid of this harshness...and everything sounds like real amps etc...the drive at 0 and allow boost....add brightness if you need by turning on the bright button....you're welcome..lol...

Thanks for purchasing! We max out the DSP in most of the patches we make, so if you want to add a wah you’ll need to remove something else to do it. Thanks again!
Nice one guys! Hearing some popping noises during the playing for some reason, but with headphones you can hear the low mids difference, helix sounds brighter with less congested mids. Prefer the Helix but I'd be interested to see if the Helix could get closer to the KOT or not.
Noticed your volume control on the Helix is maxed out...do you guys recommend running it this way in the house?

A lot of people disable to volume knob entirely that way it can't be bumped by accident!
Matt Edwards, it depends on if he is running 1/4” out at instrument level or XLR out at line level. The volume difference is dramatic. If I run 1/4” out to FOH at instrument level, I have to max out the volume. If I run XLR out to front of house at line level, I only turn up the volume to 10 o’clock to get the same signal strength.

Ok so should You buy digital copy pedal (Helix) which will be worth half its value in 5 years time or the original which could be worth more than You paid for it when the parts run out. That plus the feel from analog pedals and it’s still no contest for me.

Shouldn’t the KOT hit the amp 1st? Nobody I know puts a distortion pedal in their effects loop.
Effects loop in the Helix can be put anywhere. We put it before the amp :)
Just curious to know if there were any upgrades done to Brad’s KOT and how he sets his dipswitches, I come up on the list soon so any and all information would be really appreciated, thank you 🙏🏽
As far as I know he just got the high gain mod on the right side.
1st test....helix needs a touch more gain...and a touch less hi on the tone...
