Very cool indeed! I regret greatly ever selling my 66 Bassman head. It was the best amp I ever owned going back to when I first started playing in 1965.
I never thought I’d say this, but, I have a fender Bassman black panel with the AB 165 circuit. I was seriously considering ditching my HX stomp so I could get something to profile my amp but, now that this has released I think I will hold off and give it a go with the update.
@@1loStuoh jeez someone is obviously jealous and from the looks of your comment feed all you are doing is trying to shit on the creator? Why does your life suck so much that this is your go to? 😂
The Mark I Boogie was a Princeton (compact) with circuitry from a Bassman. When Santana first played through one he said, “This thing boogies!”…thus the name. I know this because I almost bought one in the ‘70s. Read up a lot on it. Out of my price range, though…so I stuck with my Twin. I ended up getting a Mark IIB in 1980, which was my main amp for more than two decades.
I had a Peavey Artist In between the Twin and Mark IIB. It was a lower cost alternative to the Boogie and almost as heavy. You lose some weight minus the 12” EVM speaker. Excellent amp!
Very nice playing! I too love this amp model. So much, that today I captured it off my helix to put it on my quad cortex. Sounds great there too. I especially like to put the xotic boost (kinky boost) in front
I A/B'd this with my 69 bassman and couldn't get it to match up super well. Totally makes sense if it is a 67 AB165, the ac568's didn't come in until late 68 and are a bit darker and more compressed that the ab165. Either way, killer amp model, easily my favorite in the helix.
This is my new favorite amp in the Helix! It’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to SRV / Philip Sayce tones. Nothing else ever hit the mark for me until they released this amp and the 2x15 cab model.
John missed a Golden opportunity here, and no one else has Explored on ytube YET those Legendary JBL d130 15 inch Speakers, those are GREAT SPEAKERS. Was really hoping Johnny would put it to it.
@@ksharpe10: I tried to find the JBL 15 speaker that you are referencing here but can't locate it. I'm on the newest V3.7 Helix Native. Any thoughts on this. You guys sounded excited so I wanted to check it out.
@@lyricbread This is helpful. Thankyou. Do you know if there is a specific IR that is also used or is the cab basically doing the same thing? Sorry, I'm a little new to this.
Good God I can't wait to get my Helix out and dial this bad boy in! I know it wasn't made for it specifically, but this is a great Praise and Worship patch and with all of the variables that could be added, this may become my new "Kitchen Sink" patch which I basically use for everything on a Sunday morning (hence the name haha). Such a fantastic player as well. Wish I could rent you for a day to just come to my house and fix all of my patches haha.
My favorite amp is my 1967 silver AB165 head with 2x15 cab. Nice tones here. Were we seeing and hearing Helix Native, or a computer editor changing parameters in a hardware modeler in real time? And if the latter, was it a big Helix floor, HX Stomp, or HX Stomp XL? I’d be interested in knowing about the signal chain.
John has been on record as saying “When she loved me” is his favourite song in the world, and is considered by some indigenous tribes of the Amazon to be the personification of N’Kolaltis, the bringer of death, and to others a benign spiritual guide for adolescent tribesmen
John, what's the optimal input level on Helix Native to match the input level on the HX Stomp?, I see here you have peaks at -12dB, One of the biggest problems creating presets on HX Native is having them sound the same on HX Stomp or viceversa because just a little difference on input levels between them will make the preset sound totally different and sadly HX stomp doesn't have input level monitor
Learned about trufire from your channel, and just bought a few of their black Friday courses to try them out. Hopefully you have a couse on there someday!
Great video. As side from the original amps in 3.70, this amp and the new 2203 got me most excited. Have you tried the low input of the 2203. You have to crank the drive and master (much like the real amp) but I really like it, perhaps more full sounding than the high input
Yeah John missed the Boat on that one. the 2 15 JBL D130 speakers, those are Legendary, they were the upscale speaker to go into Fenders that and the 12 inch models.
Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead used an array of silverface and blackface bassmans. The lead guitarist for Big Something and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong also used a bassman. A bassman has enough power that a lead can cut through a live mix, no matter the venue. They are very powerful amps.
No idea if they had changed the circuit by then, but I wish I never sold my 1969 Bassman Export Amp head. Mostly because in my later years I could have actually gigged it as a bass amp!
interesting, I am new about this whole helix kemper fractal tonex things, my question is, can I use helix or tonex etc straight to my cabinet and my stompbox?

I hope Line 6 will offer some of these amps as options for the Catalyst amps. I have no need for abigh gain, but another clean/boutique option would be nice
Would it be possible for you to upload favorite versions of amps and effects to the Google drive that we can use? That would provide a great starting point when building our own presets. Everybody here agrees that you have a great taste for sounds, and it would be great to not have to think about what setting the sag-knob has to be on on a certain amp.
Do you find a big difference between hicut at 4k in the cab/IR vs hicut at 4k in the global eq? I don't use cabs/IRs as I play throuigh a power amp and guitar cabinet, so my choices would be global eq OR use an additional block for a stand-alone eq (which I'd prefer to avoid).
The hicut in the cab EQ is known to have a rather shallow curve. I think I’ve gone down to as far as 3k with it for different cabs. Dunno about the IR one, personally.
@Glensully there are very few times I'm am genuinely impressed with someone's tone. I am mostly happy with what I've got. I actually only allow myself 20 minutes per 2 hrs practice session to fiddle with knobs. At the END.
I agree, but they do make for a really great bass tone as well. Maybe line 6 put it under the bass section because guitar players are more willing to try bass amps but not the other way around?
Nice sounding Amp. There is some weird high frequency noise when not playing. Is that coming from Amp or your guitar/pickups? It can be clearly heard at 11:02.
Most likely computer introduced noise. I have a computer that sounds exactly like that with phones plugged in and nothing playing. I think it's a grounding issue.
I have a 69 Bassman that I got from my brother when he died. I've never played guitar through it. It hasn't worked in like 20 years and needs servicing. My brother and I played his Rick 4001 through it a lot in the 80's. It was not a good bass amp. Not enough headroom. What makes them great guitar amps makes them bad bass amps.
Ah treasure that thing! Exactly - for a bass amp - given that it is breaking up on 3 with a guitar, I can't imagine it doing particularly pretty things for the average bassist?
@@johnnathancordy Oh for sure. I'll never sell it. I look forward to getting it serviced. I'm sure it won't be cheap. I'm wary of trusting anyone with it. I might have to ship it to Psionic Audio in Memphis but I'm afraid to ship it and that's a long drive from Houston where I live.
For me personally, I hear artifacts in the generation Kemper, Helix and up to Axe III. Quad cortex has slightly less, and tonex even less. It also shows in the negative tests, there are less "dirty reflections" in the harmonics. I feel and hear in high quality plugins once the bit rate is at highest, these artifacts disappear. In the new UA stuff I dont hear them as much, if at all. They can be heard especially when doing double or triple sting bends a la country playing and blues bends. Helix have a lot of these artifacts unfortunately, i also heard them in Fender tone master pro. The digital chirp. For me the UA stuff feels the best as as neural dsp in high quality settings at louder volumes to get get rid of low volume compression
