1987 was the first year I really saw packs of cards "everywhere", candy stores, drug stores, supermarkets, etc., so that's where I say Junk Wax Era started, then it started to snowball after that with Score and Upper Deck coming online
The condition of these cards seems to good to be true. Wonder if some "trimming" was involved. If not kudos to this company for the condition.
Yeah. These guys deff spent a lot of time trimming 100,000’s of $1-2cards. Not hard to find cards in the 70’s and 80’s in great condition.
Also. The company can spend money on cards in great shape for this product. There making a ton of money in sales to do it. It’s simple math.
@@nunzi83 so they have the time to source 100,000s of card and evaluate their condition, but not just trim instead.. got it
One thing I will say about this product is that aside from any monetary value obtained, is that this product is way more fun to open than the average new box at the same price point. I will be looking for one of these to buy.
Junk wax started in 1987, the year after the introduction to Michael Jordan's Fleer rookie card. Card companies knew kids wanted to get their hands on the latest Jordan, Bo Jackson, Jose Canseco, and all of the other major ball players at the time. The height of it was 1989 with Griffey Jr, of course. Junk wax ended in 1995 with card companies including very rare inserts and serial numbering becoming more prevalent in those cards.
That was very informative thank you :)
So basically the entire time I was collecting cards as a kid. Awesome.
@@thomaskreke4635 me too
Technically you could say ‘52 Topps was junk wax, but they just dumped the bill into the ocean lol
I agree; I was 9 at the time and was had been collecting only about two years at the time. 1987 was in my opinion as well the start of the Junk wax area.
One of the best repacks I have seen in a while. Definitely some cards that would grade out nicely. As far as the junk wax era, 86 or 87 seems to be the time when they started to crank up the presses on production.
Beautiful vintage cards! Can't believe it! Those 60's and 70's cards were mint. Tony Gwynn, Mark McGwire, and that 74' Brock, and 68' Killiebrew.
definitely my favorite rip you've done. Gorgeous cards.
I love that Lou Brock 74 Topps. The matching colors with the St. Louis uni. Gorgeous card!
This box is so much fun to watch you rip. I love the older stuff and the chance for a huge hit
Pretty damn nice cards !! Nice variety and cool George Brett jersey card !!
Jeez...it was really crazy to see all those old cards in just prestine condition! Total 👍!!! Makes me wish I would of bought theses boxes when they were available!
Wish I knew...
Love all the Nolan Ryan cards as well as the hoF hits - what quality of cards 👍👍
Someone at the company had a sense of humor, putting the Pete Rose and Ray Fosse cards right next to each other.
Rollie Fingers mustache had a faster pitch than his arm! 😅
The beginning of the junk wax era was 1981. The number of set manufacturers tripled with donruss and fleer coming into the market. Also topps was producing more product then they could sell with the black X out program where they would buy back unsold products from distributors and dealers.
Great video. Love the vintage cards. I think the junk wax started in 86. Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing.
Jabs, can you please buy up all the boxes and we do the biggest MBM in the history of MBMs? We NEED to see who gets the Mantle! The cards are in amazing condition!
Fun to watch, cards seem to be in great condition. Thank you!
Have to agree 1986's about the beginning of the junk wax era.
I’m impressed by the condition of the cards. Many appear to be in 8-9 condition. Fun rip.
Thanks for showing us these products
Great video....loved these packs. Thanks Jabs
Some real cool stuff in this box, I’d buy one if it was in the 150 range 👍. Thanks for opening Jabs!
Joe Charboneau 1981 Topps RC
Those cards are in unbelievable condition!
That was a great box. Fun for me to see those cards, especially from the 70s, my old turf.
with so many of those boxes produced (most of which will never be opened) it is next to impossible to prove that they actually inserted those mantle cards into any of them
I watch people pull mantle cards from these all the time just look it up on youtube.....
Amazing condition on these cards. They should put a sticker on it saying “Save for Retirement - Do Not Re-sell until necessary”
Love the vintage rips!!
$300 X 25,000 = $7,500,000 ... Well I think I'll do this too... Wow, cool idea for sure
I really enjoy these. Thanks for the video sir, always appreciated! 🙏
Loved this box
Gwynn my fav card
That was a great product. Thanks for the vid.
Great video man!
Your videos always cheer my me up
That Henderson is a Tiffany. This was a decent box, not 300 decent though. I think a fair price would be 115-130.00, but I do understand it's Mantle chase series so they have to recoup quite a bit of cash. A lot of those cards are in very good condition, but even those great looking older cards generally don't grade out 9 or 10. Absolutely light-years better than the last Universal Treasures.
Awesome cards best repack I’ve ever seen
Pretty satisfying video to watch! Great condition on the vintage 👏
Ya very nice, I'm a have to check a box out myself, if their still available! Something different for a change, the cards r looking pretty good! Good luck ur still 1 of the of knowledgeable I listen too!
Ray Fosse and Pete Rose back to back.... they knew ahat they were doing lol
The condition of these cards is amazing...I wonder what their sources are?? 9s and 10s all over the place. Corners, centering, gloss.
Love the cards!
Pretty awesome rip! Those cards and the quality they are in was amazing to see. Thanks!
That was an awesome box of cards. Great Brock and Ryan cards. Thanks Erik, keep up the great work.
Great video. I can't even afford a box of 1987 Topps that's flooding the market, so I have to vicariously live through your pack rips.
What why can't you afford a 20 dollar box of cards bum's make more than that on the side of the road every minute...
@@johnsmith-oh2xo I have 3 young Autistic sons, and it takes a good amount of money to make sure they get what they need. It's not like raising normal kids.
That was a nice box. I would consider 1987 to be the beginning of the junk wax era, when Topps really let the printing presses run overtime. There's a reason why 1987 Topps boxes were so cheap for such a long time, because there are so many of them.
I would actually say it was 1986. I remember buying alot of those boxes.
@@tommydinatale2819 Possibly, but there was definitely a lot more printed of '87 Topps than there was of '86 Topps.
@@montrealsports29
Yes. There definitely was alot of them around. It seems like after 1985 the prices of Topps Wax Boxes really dropped.
1988 Because that's when I went all in on this hobby. But as life happens i became a collector. So now I open packs to build sets and enjoy the possibilities of profit.
You could easily resell those cards individually for over the $300.oo cost of the box. Very nice pulls. I would pay $300.oo for those cards. I would be proud to add them to my personal collection.
There’s some awesome cards in there in great shape too!
This Was Really Great Enjoyed This A Lot
Great video jabs!
These cards were in amazing condition. It was a fun rip
Love your videos absolutely awesome
Great cards, trip down memory lane
I like older baseball and newer baseball cards they are awesome.
Awesome box!
Anyone know if 2022 topps chrome retail will release same day as hobby ?
Psa 9 on that killebrew is 250 from what I've seen so far.
Great video
I feel like junk wax started in 1986, based on card values in the 80’s, there’s a pretty steep drop off from 1980-1985 and then from 86 forward.
Junk Wax started in 1987. I remember as a kid going to Costco & get Topps for $12 or $13 box. Every 2 week going to buy a box. Now today I have 10 5K boxes of that set year
I think there’s a good reason nobody has found the mantle yet….. it was never in the product. The only Mantles I have seen were from their own sponsored rips… oh what a surprise they had Mantles…
Same thing I was thinking as soon as I seen the video, anit letting no mantle go to peasants
One of my favorite opens. Would have bought one of these if I'd known about them.
I have about 2-3 of those Mark McGwire cards.
Love the videos
Guessing these were pulled out of sets? very nice.
Nice idea!! If I were that rich dude. . .
Love this
Love this channel
Where can I buy 1 of these boxes?
Great vid Jabs! Mattingly is my favorite player all time. Hoisting a brew to your dad.✌️
Joe charboneau rookie card is a sneaky cool find lol. That dude could absolutely smash the ball and he was wild as hell.
Joltin' Joe Charboneau was his nickname
Good rip. Got some solid cards.
That's a great box! IMHO, I feel the start of the junk wax era was 1987.
got your money back w the gwynn by itself. good box.
awesome break
Where can I get a box of these from?
Can NOT believe the quality of this box for the money you paid for it! Love the breaks you do, but I've seen you pull many a Larry Hisle card over the years and I need to finally point out that it isn't pronounced "Heil", it's "HI-sul". Also, I can't believe you've never heard of Biff Pocoroba! A great young catcher overtaken by injuries. His '78 card is one of my favorites in that set. And his name is "Po-co-RO-bah".
I think junk wax area started in 86, I remember buying 86 donruss packs at Jack and Jill grocery store
AWesome video!!!
Nice looking cards
If they sell all 25,000 at $300 that comes to $7,500,000
some decent results in there. definitely nice to see that mcgwire rc. gwynn and maddux were nice too.
good stuff
Those cards were in great shape. This may be worth the 300 depending on what those grade out to
Whats the website even? Looked for a box.
Thx!!
Erik, you should create a dimensional no-go gauge for verifying the proper dimensions on these older cards..identifying trimmed cards.
They sell the guid and/or gage. It looks like a map protractor. That would be a good idea for the show to see the centering and if they are trimmed!
What site can I get one on? Buddy
Any chance some of those are reprints? The condition is insane on some of those cards
No, the company that makes those boxes always includes cards that are in really nice condition.
All original cards as I am pretty sure it says it on the box and possibly on the wrappers as well. Reputable company. First time I have seen a "Tiffany" card pulled though. (Dave Henderson)
Where can we buy these boxes Erik???
Jabs ur the man
I'm trying to get back in baseball and would like to know some cheap set's to try and get good hits in. I passed on a 2022 Bowman mega box for $44. Did I make a mistake? What years should I look for for good hits? Thanks for sharing! Hope you respond.
Mr. Jabs I now 300.00 dollars is alot of money you need too do another one
Just got my auction pick ups thanks erik
You’re welcome!
@@JabsFamily I was at my girls friends house so forgot most if what I bought I was pleasantly surprised lol
Where can you get these?
Brought back alot of childhood memories. What a coincidence to have Ray Fosse and Pete Rose back to back.
100% that was intentional, surprised Jabs didn’t notice that.
@@andrewreid895
Yeah me too. Maybe because Fosse was in an Indians uniform and not Oakland. Might of threw him off a little.
Didn’t that incident happen while he was still on the Indians? In an all star game even? Something ridiculous, I remember.
@@josephdill3776 Fosse was never the same after that. That was the way Pete played.
@@randyworden5232 my dad was a massive Indians fan his whole life and he disliked Pete Rose, solely for spiking fosse.
I'd go with 1986 for Topps junk wax. 1988 for the other companies.
Those cards look like reprints since the condition is flawless
Depend on who you ask. Junk I feel was 87, but I have been advised 88 to 91 or 92.
Hey all good luck
I think 87 was the start but Greg Jeffries (1988-1989) started the real baseball card craze- junk wax
Hey jabs! Have you shipped the universal treasures box from last week yet?
Not yet, working on other packages at the moment. Thanks for your patience!
