      Once it's decluttered.... it's so nice to just wipe down a surface without having to remove twenty pounds of items to get down to the surface you'd like to clean.... I prefer less is more...saves ALOT of Time when you don't have the extra time consuming steps of carrying Countertop stuff to dining table to clean counter and then have to carry it back and reorganize... not to mention more stuff set out on surfaces means EACH And EVERY one of those items ALSO has to be cleaned...when I scan a room and don't see clutter and know it's safe to set a snack down for a second to free up my hands to answer phone ETC.ahhhhhhhh....i can stare at empty surfaces and watch the light reflect like an astronomer enjoys looking at The stars... I'm easily pleased and entertained...but when The clutter is THERE I stress out..get anxious and frustrated....if I clear a spot someone else decides it's the perfect territory for them to take over And keep THEIR Stuff handy... OH my.... Wait a minute. THEY so lazy// tired they can't put it in the cupboard, pantry, drawer,purse... idk I prefer everything has a home... THEY say I have OCD... NOPE NOPE NOPE.. .I AM LEGALLY BLIND AND WHEN THINGS GET PUT BACK WHERE THEY BELONG-- meaning the place I have assigned for them.... everything is at face height that I need to run things smoothly.....if I have to empty the PANTRY to find the oregano.....it takes an hour to make dinner... if it's on the shelf I have labeled and near the front I can whip up dinner in twenty minutes or less. From start to serving table ... it's so frustrating....to me it's disrespectful .. so MANY times I take a mental health break and refuse to cook etc until they wanna play by my rules ☺️

    I am so very happy to have found your YT channel. I found you this morning as I've been a subscriber of The Minimal Mom for a year or more...and just finished watching the playlist for "My Organized House Tours/Mega March Motivation". Somehow I watched that playlist before this one. I watched your video and subscribed right away! I'm so glad I did. This video is one I needed to see so much. My husband and I have lived in this small house for 52 years! Raised our 4 children in it. Won't even tell you how much de-cluttering I need to do! But I've been working at it for a couple of months now. Your video has inspired me to stay the course. I've already done my kitchen and I'm so proud of it. I have to say...I own the exact same glass rectangular serving plates you have up there on that top shelf. I have a set of 12 along with little squared bottom glass cups that fit in the little "wells" of the plates. My daughter was given the set as a gift about 20 years ago and didn't want them...so gifted them to me. I will probably die with them here! Lol. I've used them for serving the ladies that have come over for Bible studies, sandwich luncheons, etc. Two summers ago my son's three daughters (ages 8-15) were visiting and I used them to serve our lunch on a beautiful little table under the tree in our back yard. We had a little "tea party" and they loved it. Those plates are def keepers! Sorry I'm rambling! I look forward not only to watching your new videos, but watching lots of others as well. I also watched the video you did (today, I believe) of redoing your freezer. Thanks for sharing your talents. Even though I'm an older woman of 75, it's never too late to learn. Especially when I really need to do this de-cluttering thing NOW!!!

    • @margocaldwell8109
      @margocaldwell8109 3 года назад +1

      Lol I am Imagining My Stuff GOING into the super size trash can OUTSIDE.... I had a roommate that used to wash and keep every cool whip, margarine,yogurt,etc container for LEFTOVERS...I don't have a problem with people that are thrifty... it's just not necessary for anyone to go broke to have matching typperware when it's OUTTA sight OUTTA mind in cupboard or refrigerator. BUT in My case.. I personally owned matching, stackable storage containers. NUTHIN worse than opening a cupboard and mix matched containers and lids roll out like they're gathering on The dance floor.... then you can NEVER find the matching lid when you want it .. don't get me WRONG....I think being frugal is wise...a smart way to save for necessities... but when you already have access to stuff WHY would you overcrowd an otherwise tidy space???? Frustrating 🙂

      Jennifer...I’m so glad you can relate to my home. Sometimes I think it’s too old. It’s not spread out like these modern homes some of the younger women have with walk in closets and bathrooms the size of bedrooms but then think, there are people with older homes like mine who have too much stuff. They need to see what I have or don’t have. Thank you for validating my thoughts. This video was fun to shoot.

    Thank you for your inspiration and soothing voice. I am trying to tackle an overwhelming project of decluttering, sorting, and organizing paper photos that have been stored in a large bin . Do you have any recommendations or suggestions or a video?

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  3 года назад +2

      Deb, I do have a suggestion and will plan a video but not soon. You have to one...decide how you want photos saved...chronologically, by family, or individuals. Next, determine how or what you plan to store them in to make them accessible. Photo albums, photo boxes, digitally, on video...hmmmm. There might be more storage solutions than I know about but...decide what to keep them in and then sort them according to the plan you made. Oh...before you start sorting, decide how many of each category you will keep. Let’s say 12 of Ben as a baby (made up name) when you reach 12, the other baby phots go into a Ben giveaway box. Maybe three or four from each grade of school. The rest go in the Ben give away box. Then five of college, 10 from wedding, then Ben and wife and kids. You get the drift but just decide on how and how many. The ones you don’t keep, set aside. Just like we order products to help us organize our pantries. Order something for your photos. I like albums because one can flip through them then put them away. It feels guilty disposing of photos but they are not people...they are memories of the people. Now here’s the fun part...and you can do this once the sorting is done....because the assembling and storing will take longer...invite family over for tea or coffee and have a photo giveaway. Let them go through the collection of photos you are not keeping. They may want pictures of the people they also love, they are connected to Ben and his imaginary family just in different ways. Birthday parties and family reunions will hold special memories for them so share them. Now this last piece will seem hard and I only know about this because of the work my son does. Give the photos you don’t keep to someone that needs stock photos. If you like, I can send you his address. He’s always calling different people looking for family photos. He works in film and TV and he has to find pictures to use on sets. If you saw the movie Selma, there’s a picture on the wall in a restaurant that is me and my sister when we were little and our mom. It’s kind of cool knowing tat picture is there. You don’t know it’s us but we do. So, that’s just a thought. If you decide to send him the “unreserved” photos, notice I didn’t say discarded, just not reserved because you couldn’t keep them all, he will need a photo release saying you give him permission to use the photos. How will he use them? Well, if you’re watching a TV show or a movie, and there’s a picture on the table of a family from the 60s, that’s a way. If the movie is set in the 40s and there’s a picture of a couple on the table, that’s a picture somebody shared and allowed them to use. He calls us all the time and I’m searching for pictures of my grandparents or me when I was ten. Now, this is more than you asked for but as I wrote to you. I came up with more solutions. So...decide chronological, by family, by occasion...like one book with just weddings or some such...sort first. Order supplies. Host giveaway party. And then, the unreserved photos, don’t toss in the trash. Offer to someone that can use them nicely and the photos remain active on there own. I’ll bet you didn’t bargain on all this. Let me know if these comments were helpful. Oh...and here’s another important piece...don’t work for more than 30 minutes at a time and certainly no loner than one hour. You’ll go down a rabbit hole emotionally and never get through it. Give yourself a time frame to have photos sorted. Say start on March 1...photos sorted by March 15. Storage solutions determined and ordered by March 21. Photo giveaway party on March 28. Stack 1...our young family assembled in assembled and stored. Ben photos assembled and stored. Ben and family. Give yourself a realistic time line to handle each group that you create. I’m needing to do this myself. My mom died in August and I get handed three boxes of old family photos. My son will get some of these because I can’t keep them all. I didn’t even think about that piece until writing to you, so keep in mind that option with your unreserved photos. If this was too much, just take from it what’s helpful and leave the rest.

    Guilty clutter, that was my problem. I have two good friends that came over and helped me work through that so I was able to give a lot of it to family before donating it. That took a lot of guilt away. It feels so freeing once things have settled down after getting rid of it.

      Karen, I know. Getting some of this clutter out just made me. Relax. I just said, “ahhhh.” And get this...my sister saw one of the pieces I was decluttering and he left me a comment about giving me the side eye. She gave me that set of seasonal notepads and saw me decluttering it on video. Oh my goodness. I like our idea about offering to family some of the goodies. I’m going to take pictures and put them. In the family chat to see if someone was nuts anything. Guilty clutter is real.

    OMG! I have the same serving tray with the diamond pattern and my sister has the rectangular glass dishes. I use the tray for holidays and gatherings. To each his own.

      You know the serving trays are old...I’ve had them for years, most of them. And seasonal entertaining is fine. We do need to save things for times when we gather...even more important now. And trust me, I’ve got a few rays in the dining room buffet. I’ll be looking at some of that stuff soon. It’s a journey. Oh...how did you like the little luncheon plates?

    What? Absolutely that Naked 2 palette must come to my house. You know I use those neutral colors. I knew I should've come over to your house while you decluttered.

      Hi Michelle, I’m not sure what was wrong with the link. Micky Blues Skies did a bitly thing and got it working. I love this video style. I plan to do more. I’ve slowed down because I’ve been working on Apron Diva but I’ve got things on the drawing board. Thank you for supporting me in this.

CUZ I'm done and Now it's easier to move AROUND and find what i need and when I do get to sit and relax I'm Not Looking at what needs to be done and dreading it... something to consider...I Hope that helps motivate you.... now I have to TAKE my OWN advice... 😂

    Denise, i made a purchase request of your Susie book from the book cover you showed in this video. I requested the ebook from Seattle Public Library. The Douglas Truth branch has a large black hiStory section. But they didn't have a physical copy.
    Was this a adult book or YA? Amazon didn't say.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  3 года назад

      Oh my goodness. lt was a YA, actually a middle grade reader. I don't know if there is an ebook. It was quite a while ago. But thank you for looking into this. IF they are trying to buy one, they should be able to get one from the Book Depository or some such. Libraries know how to find things. I searched myself on Amazon and here's a link: mazon.com/Susie-King-Taylor-Destined-Free/dp/0940975505/ref=sr_1_56?dchild=1&keywords=denise+m+jordan&qid=1614898883&sr=8-56. You know, I don't usually talk about these anymore. I was surprised when I searched my name on Amazon how many actually came up. Thank you for this pleasant reminder.

    No I pretty much know where mine is but Lee won't let me get rid of it. Daniel doesn't play with most of his toys but Lee doesn't like when I purge them. Daniel cut ripped up some of my year books I had in the custom carved Filipino nightstand (has pictures of Filipino life carved in the front design) so I had to store them in totes and leave the nightstand empty of all but things he's allowed to use.
