Aditi is a neglected housewife since Shree, her new husband travels extensively. Her only respite seems to be her music lessons. A mutual attraction springs up between her and Malhar Kamath, her music teacher. On one of Shree’s long trips abroad, Aditi gives in to her feelings of loneliness and in her desire for comfort, sleeps with Malhar. She subsequently gets pregnant, but in unable to tell her husband who the father is. However, twenty-five years later, it dawns on Shree that he may not be the father of the child after all and he confronts his wife about their son. Aditi chooses to confess the truth and finally walks out on him making herself a priority in her life.

Mujhe to vishwas hi nahi ho raha hai ki aj se 22 saal pahle bollywood me itni matured aur sensetive film ban chuki hai aur mujhe aj dekhne ko mil rahi hai.
Guys mai un sabhi se bas itna kahna chahti hu ki jo bhi comments padhne ke bad film dekhne ka plan bana rahe hai vo ek pal bhi na soche, film is very engagging aur ap ek minute ke liye bhi bore nahi ho sakte.

O my god 😳👏👏.Uss time par aisa character play karne ki Shayad kisi Actress ki himmat nahi hoti.But Tabbu mam 🙏❤️ Just Amazing.This Movie deserves to be a Blockbuster .But I don't know uss time logo me ise dekhne ki himmat bhi thi ya nahi.Kuch log to aaj bhi nahi dekh sakte honge.
Bahot sari actress ne same role kiye hain us time.. dipti naval, Smita Patil.. Shabana. Many.. Tabu also did great job

Yes Madhuri Made big mistake of rejecting Damini and this movie….Even she was first offered Deewana ,Aina ,1942 love story ,Darr,Pardes ,Khamoshi ,Ishq,Hum Sath Sath hai but Damini and Astitva she should have done….i am Ardent fan of Madhuri Dixit…May be Astitva she couldn’t do bcz of her wedding in 1999 and movie released in 2000…

Remember watching this movie when it first came out and I was blown away. After watching my husband and I had a strong conversation which showed his chauvinistic opinion and 20 years later we got divorced.

Great movie. Wonderful topic. Tabbu looks beautiful and intelligent. Her role is very sensitive but she plays it smartly. Sachin Khedekar in husband role looks as ordinary male dominant and selfish treating women as secondary. Sunil Barve looks handsome and beautiful. Ravindra Mankani looks great in supporting role. Smita Jaykar was beautiful and smart. Namrata Shirodkar looks dashing beautiful. Mohnish Bhel looked romantic. Great movie by Mahesh Manjrekar. Good music good job.

And then so many restrictions like husband has to permit, parents should permit, allow like.

If she get physically involved with anyone means society calls her slut.
Same time when a man is having an affair it is just normal to them. Even after knowing the matter first they scold the man but finally convincing the women to forgive him.
We need a master piece women who are ready to marry a person whose height is shorter than her, who less educated or has less income than her. Who is ready to marry a unemployed person ready to stay in her house and ready to look after her home.
