I love Z Nation, and I TRIED to watch Black Summer, but I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. It felt like a chore trying to finish just one episode because it doesn’t feel the same as Z Nation. I was looking forward to comic relief, and ridiculous characters, but instead it’s all more or less serious; too serious...
I liked black summer. I personally prefer seriousness over comic relief. It had a nice walking dead feel to it. I loved Z nation at first but it really started to get too dumb and wacky for me. Still a great show and concept though. 💯
ditto... ( if i am allowed to use such archaic slang ) black summer was so serious, and then the episode with drug mafia fortress and pretty gratuitous sex just all seemed over done to me and not original and certainly not funny.. i stopped there, i shall miss z nation
I was the exact opposite. I couldn’t finish episode 2 of Z Nation because it just felt too silly and goofy. I love the 28 Days Later/ Dawn of the Dead feeling of Black Summer so much more, even if the characters were pretty stupid sometimes.
To me, it's not just the fact zombies are other people that are rotting and that desire nothing more than your demise, but who they used to be. Loved ones are forced to kill or abandon the victims, which is bountiful ground for the chaos that is PTSD. Even as the victim dies/ turns, being turned on or abandoned by those they love is among the worst things to feel in their mind.
I think one of the scariest things about the black summer zombies is that it could take someone who is weak, helpless or can't walk but as soon as they become infected they're like a super soldier.
What I love about Black Summer in the personalities of the zombies. When the girl that got hit by a car turned and began chasing people you could see and feel her frustration. I also enjoy that they have some hardcore problem solving skills like when she was in the backyard and immediately started looking for a way over the wall. I hope Black Summer never ends. I dig it way to much.
Agreed. It was a nice departure from the bleek of the Walking Dead, for me. If Zombieland had made a better effort as a tv pilot, I may have went with that over Z Nation, as some of Z's stuff was too much at times. Z had a good run and a couple more seasons more than I'd expect from skiddish SyFy.
I loved Z nation cause it wasn’t so serious..if anyone never seen z nation I recommend watching season 2 episode 2 if you want to see a great episode even before season 1 episode 1
I actually really enjoyed z nation as it is prob one of or my favorite zombie shows of all time just from how funny an dramatic it is. My favorite character is proabably 10k just from how much hatred he has towards the zombies and his drive to move on. The only sign z nation and black summer are connected is from when Doc said something about how bad black summer was.
I’m watching this on Netflix right now and it’s one hell of a show just like walking dead so far walking dead and Z nation are my favorite zombie movies hope they make more episodes
I love the action in black summer. it feels more natural, more realistic. Plus I love the fact it shows different people's point of views and it explains how it death occurs or the aftershock.
Crazy how two shows under the same umbrella can be SO tonally different. " Z-Nation " got SO campy and goofy that it ruined itself. Wheras " Black Summer " is straight up horror/Thriller and kept me into it the whole way and looking forward to another season.

I have always loved Murphy. He was so much fun. Doc, 10K, Warren and Addy are good too. But Murphy always cracked me up. Curious to see how season 2 of Black Summer goes.
I think the Haitian man was a reference to the traditional Haitian voodoo zombie. I the original lore it was believed that a witch doctor could create a potion that would put someone in a trance like state causing them to be completely obedient. The fear stemmed from the thought that a person couldn't find rest even in death.
Sadly black summer was ridiculously cringey. Like how do ALL of these people survive this long without being able to fight at all? Even when they had weapons!
@@benjaminchristman2712 Yeah I mean you would think they would go for headshots all the time especially with melee weapons. It also took them forever to get a notable amount of guns and ammo. It feels hit or miss sometimes but definitely had some enjoyable episodes.
I didn't even know that Black Summer was a prequel to Z-Nation. I saw both shows and love them both, but I found Black Summer more intense, and Z-Nation slightly more comical. Both shows like I said are great and I don't know why they would cancel Z-Nation, there was so much more that could have been explored, explained and more tons of content that could have been added. The show could have easily been ended in it's 7th or 8th season.
*Black Summer* was shot here in Calgary. I was watching it and I kept thinking, "That looks SO familiar!" It took me several episodes to figure out it was shot in my home town! ▪︎▪︎▪︎ I had no idea the two shows were connected though. Thank-you. 💜
one thing i found weird was in z-nation, when roberta had a flashback to when she encountered her first zombie right at the beginning of the apocalypse, she knew exactly what it was and even said “zombies”, implying that the concept of zombies did already exist in their universe. i find it hard to believe that literally no one in black summer had ever seen a zombie movie or something
Roberta was in the national guard. Making her levels above normal civilians. Just keeps her level headed. If I saw a bloodied screaming humanoid coming after me. More thank likely I’ll be in shock and end up being a zombie as well. Lol
Their universe is almost 1:1 with ours, if you watch the Zombie Collector episode he shows off his memorabilia of zombie movie posters and merch. If you watch the flashback episode many of the others in the group didn't assume zombies at first, just Doc and Roberta iirc. It's mentioned by many one off characters that their first kill was ineffective and took hours because no one knew to go for the head, as they didn't know it was a zombie virus. Addy's confrontation with her mother and brother after they turned is a good example.
I loved Z nation. Its funny and entertaining but still has that thriller to it plus the storyline its smart and incredible with all different type of zombies evolving from different type of mutations. I also really like "the murphy" plot its interesting and different but it fits well. Every episode was so fascinating that i stayed clue and never skip. That much enjoyable.😊🖤
I loved both shows for different reasons. Black Summer was just brutal and their lives were expendable, no matter what character it was lmao Z Nation was great. It took itself seriously when it needed to, but it also very self aware with the goofiness, so it didn’t ruin it. Murphy was such a great character. I was rooting for him from the start.
Look at his previous videos and then ask yourself, Do you think he'll do a video about a very small part of a video game? He's be better of look at Genichiro or Isshin.
@@Max-dx4gm yeah but I would think that the Guardian Ape would be more interesting, but I could see him doing something bigger like the Mortal Blade or something
I really enjoyed the dichotomy between the two series, Z NATION is humorous and was thriving in the Sci-Fi channels edgy and low budget flicks. While BLACK SUMMER is a serious, scary and morbid one that suits neflix. Its cool to see two different show types fit into one world.
When ever I'm forced to wait for the next episode of the Walking dead I resort to this show. And if i Can say one thing all I have to say is... 🎵HAVE MERCY🎵 🎵OOOOOOH, HAVE MERCY🎵 likely an amazing intro for me

Matthew Walters yup. Without language barriers, black summer was just a cash grab
Buddy actually think about that shit If we wouldn't have all these Zombie movies / Infected movies how the would we firstly react we would get it after a time but they are dumb for the purpose of (entertainment) "Yes cash grab but everyone wants to do that" , it's a shame you don't get that. Same as fucking Dead set they want to grab some money and make us laugh about their actions. (Yes my english is bad but you can understand what I want to say somehow).
I Hate lmao see they wanted black summer to be realistic so then they would have zombie movies and shows so if a shot to the chest does not put them down the very next logical step is shoot them in the head

It's not a film....and how?
@@kelsey2333 I meant series
@@Willtabixx answer the question susan
@@youtubestudiosucks978 Ah yes, my bad. The virus itself isn't as accurate. But I more meant in the realism. People not knowing how to take out the zombies, pure chaos and the ensuing anarchy
@@Willtabixx Not really realistic as you talk about it’s realism applied to our real world. We have so many zombie films to the point that even kids nowadays would know how to kill a zombie(which is to shoot the head). Moreover, it was mentioned that in Z-Nation that they also had films that talked about shooting the zombie’s brain to kill them released from the 1930-40’s. So in conclusion, the people in the black summer should have known how to deal with them.

That would be amazing. I love Kingdom. The combination of zombies and the Joseon Era really made me happy. Kinda mad we got left with that cliffhanger though.
Love Znation I really hope Netflix gives it a proper conclusion!. 😭
Like what? The last season wasn't even about zombies anymore, they were just side-dressing to the main plot about politics and rebuilding. They've already wrapped up pretty much all of the relevant threads and even brought Addy back towards the end. There isn't really anything to wrap up.

Same I read the bio to the show and it said it took place in the znation universe but it felt nothing like it :(
I liked black summer.

Znation logic: zombie apocalypse starts 2015 season 5: 11ish years later

Znation is a time paradox prove me wrong
To me, it's not just the fact zombies are other people that are rotting and that desire nothing more than your demise, but who they used to be. Loved ones are forced to kill or abandon the victims, which is bountiful ground for the chaos that is PTSD. Even as the victim dies/ turns, being turned on or abandoned by those they love is among the worst things to feel in their mind.
Then you'll love how z-nation says the zombies are conscious just lacking self control.

I think one of the scariest things about the black summer zombies is that it could take someone who is weak, helpless or can't walk but as soon as they become infected they're like a super soldier.
Syfy doesn't like good ratings they cancel as soon as it's positive.(edit) Alphas, stargate sgu and now this show are proof

It took me a year to realise that Z Nation was over at season 5 I didn't know about the prequel until I saw this video thanks

Additionally it should be a known fact that when in doubt go for the head considering your brain controls literally EVERYTHING?

one thing i found weird was in z-nation, when roberta had a flashback to when she encountered her first zombie right at the beginning of the apocalypse, she knew exactly what it was and even said “zombies”, implying that the concept of zombies did already exist in their universe. i find it hard to believe that literally no one in black summer had ever seen a zombie movie or something
