Pat Quilter told me in an email that he recommends using a dummy plug in the FX Send when plugging directly into the Return, as it lets you bypass a pad that you’ll run into otherwise. I use a 1/8 to 1/4 inch plug adapter in the Send jack so I don’t have a cable just dangling there looking like it’s not plugged in.
Great video! I have the original G4 and that mid bark is exactly what I love about it. So, to my ears, the original G4 still sounds better. I'd be curious to hear the differences for the G2 as well though as it's the other Revv pedal I have and I would like a bit more gain on it.
WHATS UP KYLE! I just dropped in to let you know I just followed your suggestion and ordered the quilter to make life easier just yesterday evening. This following week i will pick an amp pedal for the floor. . Thanx doggie -johne Scümbari
I gotta say based on this video I'm liking the original versions better. The G4 anniversary is lacking a bit too much in the mids and the G3 anniversary sounds a bit too nasally compared to the original.
Dude I thought the same thing. I've been waiting for someone to compare these properly. On 60 Cycle Hum, he compared the G2 and the G2 Anniversary....I didn't like the G2 Anniversary as much. And every time Revv showed the differences, it just sounded more scooped.
ia have a sort of kncok off of the normale g4. i am with you they are mode distortion pedeals than preamp, i need a little more highs fro being a proper preamp without post eq or as you said a presence control.
I have both the original pedals. I like the sound of the G3 Anniversary. But looks like the original has more that it can push. You had the vol dimed out on the new pedals, where the originals were only at 2:00. So I wonder what differences there would be on the exact same settings. 🤘
G3+10 bands eq in the loop = The clean cha. of my Jcm800 20w🔥sometimes i boost the G3 by SD1 but the aggression toggle switch should be in the middle (off)!! I love it!
more people should try putting preamp pedals in the actual loop of their clean channel, for real, especially on hybrid or tube amps with a transparent clean channel, or in the case of single channel amps, that sound relatively transparent if you turn the gain down (Orange Micro Dark, Dark Terror 15, etc). There is a marked difference, and IMO I think it's better. I have an Orange Super Crush, and a Joyo Bantamp Meteor, and my Zoom multi FX and my Joyo Oxford Sound preamp pedal both sound so much better in the loop behind the clean channel, with the overdrive in front of the amp's front input, as opposed to just going direct into the FX return.
@@needsLITHIUM Yes, i tired it this way with few dist. pedals and sounded good. But i still prefer it in front of the amp, as one of the reasons i run other pedals in the loop!
@@omarheavy2009 you can just put them after the preamp pedal. Put the 10 band EQ after the preamp. Your 4 cable noise gate? the actual gate goes after the EQ. Time based effects? after the noise gate. 🤷
@@omarheavy2009 it all goes on your pedal board, anyway. If you have a separate board for the loop, even better lol. If you like using it the way you currently use it, go for it. I just like to share new ways of doing things. I still run my preamp in front of the amp sometimes, because I can make it act as a boost for the clean channel, while my overdrive acts as a boost for the preamp pedal. People just need to remember that the difference between a preamp and a distortion is usually the tone stack and overall frequency response. One can make any pedal do almost anything, if you are stubborn and persistent enough 😜
Since your channel is dedicated to boutique amps, you should go have one of your amps modified by an amp builder to show what the process of modding an amp is like.
They definitely seem a little bit brighter. Where as the old ones were too dark, flat and hollow sounding. Still think that there’s something lacking for me though. Still seems saggy and too amp like. If that makes sense. I prefer tight immediate attack from a more solid state sounding pedal like the mt2w
Nice, finally someone smart enough to compare the new versions to the old ones!
I've had the G3 pedal on my board for a few years. It's the best pedal I've ever tried for that tight, modern, high gain metal sound.
hi. but many people says g3 is muddy and etc. so how put g3 sounds good? use boost/od like precision drive?

Cool pedals, I think Revv makes good stuff!
The G3 has been a main stay on my pedal board ever since I got it on day one. Many pedals and amps have come and gone, but the G3 will always remain.
Got my G4 two weeks ago . Love it .
Awesome you are using the Quilter. I have an old Pro Block 200. So good driving my KSR preamp🤘

Og's looks so much cooler and sound basically identical. Happily will buy those used once again
Nice work, KB... I own a Blackout G4 (original) and I never see them anywhere.
Have G3 , and G4 love them .
But Ksr Ceres is whole another level.
This are my best pedals i own.
Hail.
I just picked up the G3 to run with my PowerStage 170 for a compact practice rig and man it absolutely rips!
Improved sounding for sure. They also look better. Thx for the review
love u videos bro! G4 sounds badass!!!
It feels weird to be early to a Kyle Bull video. Good stuff, keep it up bro 🤘

At first the original G4 but overall the anniversary G3. BTW any videos comparing Generator channels against the pedals?

I appreciate tips! 😉
But indeed, my pedalboards, all of them I built, splitted the patchbay this way!
Why not using the same settings that would be a true comparison between the old and newer versions...
Can you post me a link to the Cool guitar you are playing here please?? 🙏
Still no mid sweep.
That’s all they really needed.
I liked the OG's better without an OD and the new ones with an OD
I almost got one of these. Then dave friedman invented the IRX answering my prayers for a pedal with a full voltage tube preamp
REVV and Kyle. Winnipeg meets Eerie.

OG3 !
New ones look way better. Old ones look kinda corny. I had the red G4 it was a beast. Looked wack on my pedalboard though. Sold that shit.
Ooh mmaaaannn! 🎸🔥

wheeeeee
I've had most of these pedals and concluded that Amp distortion / tone was still way better than what these or any other distortion pedals offer.
cool beans
@@belligerentamateur I prefer my beans HOT.
@KaddysJamKave ever the contrarian
@@belligerentamateur Don't agree with that 😉
Nope! Lol!
