    It’s louder than all get out. Plenty of headroom. I used it for a long time to power my Axe FX II instead of using the power section of my ‘94 5150. My biggest complaint is that I feel there is some bass roll off in the preamp.

These things win all the battles when it comes to size and weight and volume, it's insanely loud for being so small and light! Sounds great, Kyle. Too much cool gear out there to choose from these days. Any chance you could get your hands on the Ashdown Newt from Sweetwater? It looks interesting, but there aren't many reviews for it out there.

    I got to gig with Earth Crisis at Sea Seas in Moosic/Wilkes Barre in the 90s. We borrowed some gear from CHamber. CHAMBER was a very underrated band from PA that was kinda like heavy proto ScreamoCore. I have been thinking of going the small SS power amp route with my REVV preamp pedals and drives.. • @AlikaMadis
    @AlikaMadis 4 месяца назад +3

    Interesting that you ran the preamp into the front of the Quilter, because you can also just run it through the FX return, so you can bypass the preamp on the Quilter and just use it as a power amp. That way you're not running a preamp into another preamp. You do get an extra set of EQ controls if you run it through the front, so that's cool, but it's hard to avoid coloring from the second preamp. Is there a reason why you went into the front instead of the loop? I'm asking because I always run my preamps through my Quilter Overdrive 202 into the FX return...

    • @djabthrash
      @djabthrash 4 месяца назад +1

      It puzzles me that they didn't add controls for that poweramp section, like "presence", "depth/resonance", etc

    • @AlikaMadis
      @AlikaMadis 4 месяца назад +1

      @@djabthrash Yes. That would have been nice. That's one of the reasons why I use a separate preamp through the return instead of the preamp itself. On its own, it sounds really good, but it doesn't have enough control if you're planning on using different bottoms/speakers. As a gigging musician, you don't always know what bottom you're getting on backline especially when on tour. So presence and depth are particularly useful in those circumstances. I think they decided to leave those controls off to save more space and make it super small and light (which it is). However, it is definitely a compromise.

    Quilter ToneBlock 202 is fantastic! It's my main gigging amp these days as it's incredibly lightweight and is more than loud enough for most gigging situations. I've only had two real issues with it and other gear. 1- The EVH 5150 pedal from MXR Sounds really bad through this amp (think late 2000's Line6 insane channel). 2- For single coil guitars it has WAY too much bass and can really muddy up your live sound without some kind of low cut/eq in the signal chain.

    Better than lugging 60 lb heads around. The fine differences in sound won't matter in any live situation. I'd love to see a shootout with the different amp pedals. Especially the Laney IRF Loudpedal.

    I prefer the Quilter power amps sound, much better note seperation and super tight.

    Didn’t know you could get such a full tone from just a preamp pedal and power amp

    ISP Stealth Pro is my go to small power amp. They remind me of a beefier Mosvalve.

    Glad you did a video on this. I feel like quilter doesn't get enough love. Edit I'm going to buy 10 of these so I can drown out the state of maryland from central PA lol

    Hey Kyle, random question related to the solid state situation: how much do you spend on tubes with all those heads? :O

    Can it compete colume wise with a 100w tube head in a live setting?

      easily. Tested it at practice against my other guitarists rig - Rev E Dual Rec and a Peavey 5150, absolutely no problems keeping up.

    quilter makes soe serous stuff. however also my trusty valvestate 8004 power amp is not that bad. frfr quilter system sounds almost identical to my linear mode on the valvestate, hi-fi if you can pass my assertion. good for modelers and preamps however not at all a valve power amp sound for sure. good but different
