    Remember seeing Smith for the first time at The Oval during the 2013 Ashes. The crowd were constantly making fun of him whenever he was fielding on the boundary, despite him having made an unbeaten century. Pretty sure that doesn't happen anymore.

    Every time I hear Steve Smith speak I like him more. It makes his involvement in the ball tampering scandal all the more perplexing. A genuine batting great however. Was deeply impressed with his brave determination to go out and face Archer after getting a very nasty blow to his arm.

    An absolute legendary batsmen, I would just watch Australia test matches to watch him bat. I think his batting antics make it more exciting to watch him.
    If he can maintain a 60+ average till he retires then he would have easily been the best test batsmen of this era.

    He has great awareness of where his off stump is. I remember he won a great appeal against an lbw in the ashes last summer. One of the main reasons he's so hard to get out. Then he just builds runs. Amazing player.

    What's important to understand about Smith's technique is that just because it's not 'pretty' or 'textbook' doesn't mean it's not effective. Standing open allows him to play straight, with balance and leave the ball well. A fantastic batsman

      careful mate, ponting had a career average above 60 after he had played 100 test matches and his average dropped to 51 by his retirement, it depends how long smith plays when the inevitable drop in form due to age comes

    Very very generous of Smith to give Nasir all the info about him even he is aware it can be used to deal with him in Ashes. But I suppose Smith’s self belief is superb that he’ll play amazingly well regardless.

    The greatest transformation in cricket history never have I seen any cricket start from the bottom and as a bowler and than becoming one of the greats becoming the one of the greatest batsman of not just this generation but I am talking all time.     Amazing how Steve Smith takes cricket so serious.Thats why he is number 1. What about last summer in England with Archer bowling headhunters at Smith,because he was so frustrated at not being able to get Smith out,he had to physically try and knock him out of the game.

    If he finishes with the weight of runs behind him (>12000) and that 60+ average then there's a good change that he will go down as one of the greatest batsman of all time.
    Commentators these days are so willing to throw around comparisons to the greats of the past but he really does justify alot of his acclaim.
    Even as an Englishman, I want to see him go down as a legend so that in decades I can say that I watched him bat.

      Theres no doubt that he is confident in himself but he sort of comes accross quite shy in the interviews and a little nervous and unsure. I guess he lets the bat do the talking as he is the boss.

    I had watched Steve Smith Pune's hundred ...this was best innings by any over seas player becoz that pitch got cracks at every place very difficult to play.

    I remember a comment from an Englishman before the last Ashes series were he claimed Smith would have his pads blown off by the English bowlers. Didn't work out for him did it.
