      To be fair, i don't consider the Switch to be a "console" for the same reason the Gameboy and Nintendo DS aren't consoles. The Switch is a console in the same way that a Tomato is a fruit.

      @@kingofbudokai One thing of note, a tomato is both a fruit and a vegetable, since a fruit is the seeding body of a plant, and a vegetable is the edible part of a plant. The meaning of the word "vegetable" is ambiguous in common speech today, however "Fruit" is pretty nonnegotiable and tomatoes are definitely fruit.
      On the other hand, the reason why I have a Switch and a 3ds and haven't bought a console for 15 years is because portability is the only benefit you get from them not being a PC!

    • @kingofbudokai
      @kingofbudokai 3 года назад +1

      @@Vegas242 To me, "console" specifically implies that it isn't portable but that is just a personal definition, which is why even though switch meets the technical requirement, i don't personally count it. If it doesn't require a controller, it isn't a console. If it doesn't plug into a TV, it isn't a console, etc. That's just the way I've always thought of things, not that it's necessarily correct. (You'll notice i didn't say the switch ISN'T a console, merely that i said I personally don't count it as one. Just like tomatoes are technically fruit, but i'm still not going to call them that.)

    2 things:
    1) the issue with druid is even if it early nut draws, if you take back the board it struggles.
    2) Because PC games run at different hardware levels, you can't make one rig to sell to people that can play it all at a competitive price. If I sell you a 500 dollar xbox I can guarantee you that you can play every game of that xbox generation. If I sell you a 500 dollar computer I can't at all guarantee that it will play every pc game for the next 4 years.

      Most PC games are highly forwards compatible.... that's the whole thing about windows.... its a mess a lot because of wanting to be compatible with any old software and not remove any features.
      There is also leveraging a consistent CPU and other hardware things to better optimize and get better games for the hardware.
      On another note: I dont really understand the point of ever acting in a way that would make you want to buy a second console.... because then... stuff that runs games does not need to be "consumeable" and "need to be replaced" in any reasonable amount of time... and if your doing that you likely could get better performance per dollar via PC's.

    7:30 Fun fact: There was a company who created what was essentially a PlayStation 2 Emulator for computers called Bleem!, you would put in the software disc to start the Bleem! software and then once it was running you would take out the disc and put in a PlayStation 2 game. They tried to sell it to Sony, but Sony was pissed and sued them but the judge ruled they didn't do anything wrong. In the end Sony just threatened to stop allowing businesses that sold Bleem! to also sell PlayStation stuff, although eventually some of the people who made Bleem! were recruited by Sony after the fact

    Part of the issue with PC/Mac gaming has to do with how fast games can scale sometimes in requirements too fast, where console versions of the game are always made for what the console can handle. Now, if you do have a decent PC/Mac it does open up better graphics and the like. Some problems you run into are lazy developers too. They "port" a game to PC/Mac because of demand, but keep all the console settings. Things like max of 60fps, only controller support, but not keyboard, etc. That is becoming less and less likely nowadays though, and it nice to see. I have built my own PC since I was 15 (turning 39 at the end of the month). My last console I bought was a PS2. Which I still have and sometimes play.
    Also $500 for something that can run newer games as well as a console isn't that realistic in my experience. Best you can get, unless you really shop deals would be something with an i3 or Ryzen 3 processor, 8GB Ram, maybe a 1 TB HDD. Not even sure as most don't even list the GPU. It could run things on low to maybe med settings and probably bottleneck to heck. Again, just my experience.

    • @J59
      @J59 3 года назад +4

      In my experience my $500 went a bit further than that. Ryzen 5, 500gb ssd, gtx 1650, and that was off of amazon.

    • @Gorbgorbenson
      @Gorbgorbenson 3 года назад +2

      My pc experience was that I believe I started in the 700$~ range and have been making steady upgrades since getting it. The biggest one was getting a gtx 960 which I had for about 4-5 years being able to run every game that I tried. The only time I couldnt run one was black ops 4, but that was due to my mobo/processor. If I didnt splurge recently and get a 2070 Super, Id still be on that 960 and be happy. In total Ive probably spent 1500$ on my computer itself, but I likely would be able to last at least one more gen without upgrading again. Which means I would have spent the same one my computer as buying 3 different generations, but I can play all the games that have come out in the past 12 years.
      Also, I just wanted to add that Mac gaming is a joke. It’s hilariously tragic to me when people bitch about a game not working on their Mac. (Im not saying they’re bad per se, but they’re not meant for gaming lol)

    • @heavenlyturnip
      @heavenlyturnip 3 года назад

      PC gaming is comparable in price when you consider that pc gamers expect, and typically receive, steeper discounts for games on sale. Also we don't pay additional fees for online experiences. And we enjoy a massive library of legacy content, often with community modding and support. Not to mention how much cheaper and easier it is to emulate your old console games on PC. So depending on your gaming habits and what kinds of experiences you want, PC can be very cost competitive.

    The reason I play on console is because of console exclusives.
    A lot of the games I want to play don't exist on PC.
    And since I have the console anyway for those exclusives, it makes no sense to get a gaming PC as well just for the games that aren't exclusive.
    Also if you play multiplayer shooters and prefer the feel of a controller, playing on PC gives you a distinct disadvantage, since opponents on mouse and keyboard can be more accurate than you.

    A huge appeal for consoles from the perspective of a game developer is the fact that your user base is using the same system, guaranteed. You don't have to have different game settings for different compute powers, you just design the game for the one console and its set-in-stone features. This saves a lot of time on the game developer side, and the console companies also have tools teams to create standardized tools for developers to control graphics, hardware optimization, etc.

    For one thing, with consoles you can sit on a nice sofa and play on a massive tv. I’m sure there’s some way you could do that with a PC as well but you’d probably have to switch back and forth depending on when you want to use it like a computer and when you want to use it like a console.
    They’re also much easier to move around than computers, so you can take them to your buddies’ for lans and such.
    You don’t have to worry about specs at all. You just buy the console and it’s exactly as good as it needs to be until the next gen comes out. No worrying about buying additional hardware (except maybe an external hard drive) or software.

    • @BerserkerBacon
      @BerserkerBacon 3 года назад

      I mean its just as easy as playing a console on the couch. Plug your HDMI into your computer/TV and go to the right source for whatever HDMI you're using on the TV, and bam. You now are using a giant TV screen like a computer monitor, no issues at all.

    • @JaxonBurn
      @JaxonBurn 3 года назад

      BerserkerBacon that’s weird, my pc doesn’t have an HDMI port and it’s not even that old.
      Edit: Just to clarify my point a bit: I actually do this with my current set up. My pc is plugged into my tv (though not via hdmi) and my Xbox is plugged into the same tv via hdmi, so I can just switch between inputs. But the thing is my tv is medium sized, so it works well for both keyboard and mouse when you’re close to the screen and console where you can sit back a bit. My point was that you wouldn’t want to be sitting at keyboard and mouse distance from the tv if it was massive. So you’d have to actually switch the cords/screens around every time you wanted to swap between being close to your monitor for keyboard and mouse use and farther back from the massive tv with a controller. It’s a niche case but one that does come up for some people no doubt.

    • @BerserkerBacon
      @BerserkerBacon 3 года назад

      @@JaxonBurn I mean if I had a wireless keyboard/mouse I wouldn't really see the issue with playing on any sized screen. I'm actually currently using my desktop on an actual monitor and my tv for a dual screen setup, hdmi plugs straight into my graphics card and then into the tv.

    • @JaxonBurn
      @JaxonBurn 3 года назад

      BerserkerBacon Personally with a mouse and keyboard I’d prefer to be close to a reasonable sized monitor. What would the set up with a wireless keyboard and mouse look like with a big screen? Would you have a desk for your mouse and keyboard where you would sit as well as some platform for the screen to be on? Seems like it would require a lot of space. Or would you have the keyboard on your lap and the mouse next to you? Seems like it would be uncomfortable and harder to use. Anyway, I did acknowledge that I’m sure there would be a way to do it in my original comment so it’s kind of a moot point.

      The new Xbox and PS5 are just hardware upgrades to the current generation, given they're backwards compatible. They've been PCs in a box since they moved to x86 architecture.
      Also, they've started making multiple versions per console like the PS4 Pro and Xbox X and other nonsense. If you buy the worse one you get worse performance in games.

    I think the main advantage of consoles is how user-friendly they are for keeping up with the latest games, you buy one and then can get any game that will ever come out for it and know that it will work perfectly (as long as the game itself isn't a poorly made mess). PC is different in that spec requirements keep going up over time until eventually you'll find out that your machine can't run that game you just bought. Obviously consoles become obsolete as well in the sense that eventually games will stop being released for them and you'll have to buy the next one to keep up, but to the average non-tech-savvy consumer it's still easier to manage that than to be left on your own trying to figure out when you need to upgrade your PC and what to upgrade it with (or to buy a new PC altogether and what it should have).
    That being said, even though I am one of those tech illiterate dumb-dumbs that has no idea how to properly stay up to date with PC gaming I'm probably done with consoles. Most of them are getting ridiculously expensive for what they offer and 99% of the games I'd want to play end up on steam anyway. The only thing really worth getting is Nintendo's stuff but honestly their quality has been going downhill lately so after the Switch I'm probably done with them too. It does make sense that console would still have such a large audience but PC is probably just the correct answer for anyone who bothers to put this much thought into the question in the first place.

      I have played consoles at friends a lot and I could never understand how the controllers work, they are freaking mystery to me, give me mouse and keyboard any day... And the graphics are worse.

      It depends, consoles have one advantage that everything is more powerful because it is specifically designed to do one thing, whereas computers are supposed to be able to do anything, although it is possible to build a powerful PC for less than a console would cost, it just takes a lot of research and planning. For anyone interested in the console vs PC price to performance comparison it has always gone like this.
    On launch day the price to performance (P/P) of a console is much lower than a comparable PC (the Console has higher performance for the same price or same performance for less price)
    This is always debatable with the “but a PC can do other things argument” and while this is generally a positive, the simplicity of a console that just works is also compelling to parents/casual users.
    Now the explanation as to why the console has a lower p/p is that the cost is subsidized by the profits that Microsoft/Sony make with the sale of services and licensing of games.
    Generally at about 1-2 years of a consoles life span a PC with better P/P is available. It’s at this point that despite the drop in cost of the console (50-125$ over the 1-2 years) the advance in computing has overtaken and cheaper more powerful parts are readily available.
