    For NYC, this is huge and very good size for an apartment. I'm living in a studio apartment in NYC. A very small and narrow kitchen, no way another person be able to squeeze pass me. There is a small stove, small sink with cupboard underneath and next to it a narrow 5' tall fridge with small freezer combination. There are several cabinets above all that. A small bathroom and a maybe 15' x 15' space for bedroom/living room/dinning room, etc... plus a very small closet. That's all. I have to say, it is in a reasonable neighborhood. Current value - sold for $250k in my building, exactly the same size as my apartment. The one in this video is at least 3 or 4 times bigger than mine.

Those had become rare over time you saw there were fewer and fewer of those because they were prone to mechanical breakdown and building owners started just taking them out and completely remodeling. We're paying for the walkability, the accessibility, the melting pot of food, the opportunities, and youthful vigor that comes with this experience. Only for Manhattan though. The other boroughs don't offer the same vibe. It's necessary (unfortunately) to have a car almost everywhere else in other major USA cities. Even a used car, insurance, maintenance, gasoline, and other unforseen car expenses will add up to the total cost of living.

    • @tovsteh

    • @GariusMarius
      @GariusMarius 11 месяцев назад

      @@tovsteh It's called quality of life. It's subjective, but there are certain baseline considerations that make Manhattan ideal. I can walk down the block to choose from a variety of bagels and specialty breakfast items, or walk several more blocks to hop on the subway to wherever I am in the mood for at the moment. The other boroughs have ethnic enclaves with their wonderful food, and even Williamsburg comes close to accessibility of food and bars, but lacking in the subway/transportation area unless you take a rideshare. Walking to Central Park or other parks and having breakfast/lunch/chill there are also accessible and convenient. Low price, medium price for the value, and expensive restaurants from all over the world are found here. For some people, it's a temporary living arrangement while we're young, for others, it's a permanent way of life. You don't get that anywhere else in the world, perhaps except Tokyo and some European cities and Asian cities. I'm not knocking on the other boroughs since I grew up mostly in Queens and parts of Brooklyn, but I'm being real honest here that family-life is better off in the other boroughs, but Manhattan is where you want a well-rounded quality of life and accessibility.

The cost of renovation depends on the region, I live in Matsumoto so its still quite expensive to renovate a house compared to other prefectures. But not only that there is an entire procedure, you have to take permission from the locals and the neighbors so that the noise dont cause disturbance for the community. Its a whole another ball game😂.

  • @arealzero85

    I mean it's no mansion but I highly doubt it's the SMALLEST in the whole of NYC. Honestly, that's the perfect amount of space for my single ass. My apartment now is a 1 bedroom 1 bath just a little bit more spacious than this one, I pay $1200 a month with heat and hot water included in the rent, and I live in Nashua, New Hampshire which is one of those quaint, small, picture-esque New England style cities, with your classic American main street style downtown and everything. I can't imagine how expensive that one is but to be living amongst the 6 million other people in NYC, with walking distance access to literally anything and everything I'm sure play a part in this apartments price of rent. If it's not much more than what I'm paying now, then I'm living in the wrong part of the country. As much as I enjoy my cozy little spot, I'd give it up in a split second to take a downsize and live actually IN NYC!
