In a previous scene, the first type of round was used, but the primer wasn't deactivated so when fired, the projectile was lodged in the barrel unseen. Then in the next scene, a blank was used, which uses effectively a full powered load of powder... Meaning Brandon got hit with almost a full energy 44 magnum round. Always check for squibs
